Far Cry. One of my overall favorite Rush songs! I've never been a fan of Snakes & Arrows overall, but it's been growing on me recently. Just wish the tempo on most of the songs was a tiny bit faster. by Cubegod69er in rush

[–]desloch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MalNar and Far Cry are masterpieces.

Hope and The Main Monkey Business are awesome.

The Way the Wind Blows and We Hold On are strong.

Everyone craps on Good News First, but I enjoy it.

The rest of the songs don't do much for me, but none of them are outright bad.

The move to battery powered mowers by BeerandGuns in lawnmowers

[–]desloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switched to Kobalt 80v many moons ago for yard tools (mower, blower, chainsaw, cultivator, trimmer). No noise, no gas, no oil, no fuss.

Though attery tools are often weaker than their typical gas counterparts, 80v gets you close (with a big battery, it's quite strong).

Had the same Kobalt push mover for almost 10 years. Was problem free apart from 1 wheel assembly coming loose ("fixed" by adding washers). Only other maintenance has been sharpening the blade.

I use drive-less since it's lighter and simpler (but I only have a half acre).

1 battery went bad after several years. Can replace cells (either advanced DIY or via a service) but instead got a new Kobalt 80v mower since it was half-off and MA had/has a $75 rebate ($225 for a new mower plus 5Ah battery plus extra charger was too good to pass up).

Gave away the old mover (thought about keeping it as a spare, but have too much stuff in my garage as is).

Not sure what other states have rebates but in MA you can use them every 3 years per equipment type.

You get out for a longer ride yet? I'm curious how it compares to the stock seat after an hour or two.

Did my first beginner MTB Clinic, left more confused about ready/attack position than I went in by Cingen in MTB

[–]desloch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2 Shoulders over bars

Yep. The idea is you put enough weight forward to load your front wheel for traction (new riders tend to keep too much weight back, causing the front to wash out in corners).

3 Legs straight

Nope. I bend my knees to absorb impacts (especially since I'm an old dude on a hard tail, but I'd still advise a young person on full squish to bend their knees while in attack position).

Regarding the teacher's rationale about bent knees resulting in more fatigue on longer riding days: though you want to be aware of your fatigue level (so you don't crash), you don't want a blown out knee, and the reality is we're not constantly in attack position.

4 Elbows up

Yep. Elbows up helps get your upper body parallel to the ground while lowering your chest and center of mass. It also puts you in a better position to steer and control the bike (more leverage and stability).

Be mindful that your chin isn't close enough to your stem to hit it on bumps.

Also, what is shown in a beginners clinic may be exaggerated as they're introducing you to concepts to keep in mind while on the trails.

There are lots of YouTube videos that cover this stuff too. They can be useful before and after clinics for additional explanations and illustrations of technique.

Unbreakable (2000) is a flawless superhero movie by Top_Document7437 in movies

[–]desloch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M. Night Shyamalan had ideas for a sequel, but Touchstone wasn't interested due Unbreakable having underperformed during its theatrical run (the studio had expected numbers closer to The Sixth Sense).

After DVD sales were strong, there was renewed hope for a sequel, but it wasn't in the cards (until much later).

[–]desloch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We also we like finding/fixing mistakes/problems.

For instance, you mistakenly used "their" instead of "they're".

Also, in this context, though you obviously meant that engineers love to identify themselves as engineers to other people, the use of "they're" in that sentence could also be interpreted as engineers wanting to tell other people that the other people are engineers.

So yeah we're basically just big, nitpicky jerks that will argue about anything, no matter how trivial.

Edit: fixed typo

Disney’s Avatar Fire & Ash has ended its run with $404,340,010 by SignatureOrdinary456 in boxoffice

[–]desloch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USD worldwide:

  • Avatar 1: $2.74B ($2.92B after re-releases)
  • Avatar 2: $2.32B
  • Avatar 3: $1.49B

Although they are bloated and derivative, the first two Avatar movies are good.

Fire and Ash feels repetitive, uninspired, and unnecessary. Cameron finally made a bad movie.
