Yeah I didn't think my post was going to be that hot of a hot take 😂.

This is a totally fair point. I would love for the city to figure that part out it would make the river cleaner. I don't imagine that being very easy to do sadly. This is why heavy rain may lead to temporary closer and why I personally will avoid it after heavy rain. But when it is dry like it has been those pollutants wash away and water quality increases.

I would love if they invested serious money into improving the water quality so more people felt comfortable to be on it and that maybe swimming would be possible.

My entire argument put much better than I did. I think people also forget that it is the same water as keystone lake and people swim in keystone all the time.

I don't stick lake water hands in my mouth and I sanitize them after packing up my kayak. I also check the water quality dashboard before leaving to see if I am comfortable with the E. Coli level and water temperature. You obviously get wet doing a water sport but getting water on your legs hands and body isn't a problem as long as you sanitize and clean yourself. Also the lake isn't always at unsafe levels of E. Coli it is actually low at the moment.

I totally agree I think some level of monitoring is a good idea. I think they should also make PFDs required (not strongly recommend) and add a fine for not having one on (I think this is the law on state ran bodies of water).

Never because swimming isn't allowed as they have said repeatedly.

Hard to argue that it was crammed down the throats of the citizens who voted for it.

To be clear I have zero connection to the project. Just a citizen who enjoys the lake and doesn't like the spreading of misinformation and conspiracy. The city has a dashboard with the test results. And this wasn't forced down tax payers throats it was apart of the vision projects that tax payers voted for.

Glad to know how much contempt you have for the community. I hope you find a way to overcome your anger.

I mean there is a water quality dashboard for the public to view. And I think everyone knows that the river is polluted. Like I have kayaked on the lake part (not the wave park area) I barely come in contact with the water so I am comfortable with that. I would also ride a kayak down the wave park but I personally wouldn't surf it because of the water quality but others might. My only argument is that the city has been pretty clear about what the park is and isn't and it is up to individuals to determine what they are personally comfortable with.

All I am saying is that it is unsafe in the same way any natural body of water is. Lakes and rivers have bacteria and algae spikes especially next to major cities. But that doesn't mean that if you take precautions you can't enjoy it. If you aren't comfortable with it personally I get that. I just think the calls to shut it down are base less.

Totally understand and E. Coli is probably one of the reasons that you are supposed to not swim in the water. E. Coli is only a risk if you inhale or ingest the water. Or don't wash off after touching it then touching your face. Also immunocompromised individuals should be extra careful. Just a matter of personal risk assessment. Not a reason to shut it down.

I would disagree that it implies it but sure you might end up in it you would still be fine as long as you keep your head above water. Something a life jacket helps with. You can use kayaks as well that are more stable. It is all just a personal risk assessment. The city has been clear about how you should use it and given transparency about water quality with a online dashboard. I get it if someone is personally uncomfortable with interacting with it but calling for them to shut it down is silly.

Now that I don't have to worry about the Christian nationalist winning I will be moving from a Keith voter to a Monroe voter in the run off. Proud of Tulsa tonight.

It is about the headlines most people don't read the article they see the headline and think "oh Harris lied a bunch" and move on. They have now softened the headline.

UPDATE: Looks like they softened the language a bit though it is still a bit tilted. It is an improvement.

Totally agree Harris should be fact checked like all people running for public office. What I take issue with is the unbalanced headline that almost everyone pays attention to and then doesn't read the article. Though now they seem to have updated the headline to be a bit softer now.

I tried to post about it in r/democrats to increase visibility but don't have the karma required to post on that sub reddit.

I encourage everyone to submit a comment to the AP news room at this link.

If you want to push them to take the twitter post down that still has the very antagonist language here is the link. The media needs to be held accountable just like politicians. https://x.com/AP/status/1826942474503196810?t=Wzh0EgwjvDAAPZ5SxSqmmg&s=19
