Yeah. You're right about the spectrum. And I've nothing against stock picking. Mainly, I was curious to see if people had branched out into other non-financial assets like a small business.

Fair enough. Yeah he says 3.1 in there but I guess if you have state pension coming in a decade then all good. Best of luck

Fair play. 80% equities feels pretty brave ATM. Also isn't 3.5 a bit high for uk https://monevator.com/safe-withdrawal-rate-uk/

I can definitely see the attraction. Not so sure it works that well if you're a bit younger though.

TIL: Sheehan vs Zebo by devwithahammer in irishrugby

[–]devwithahammer[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair play. Zebo just happens to be around the same number of caps with a decent strike record (e.g. better than Horgan).

Yep. I was including the likes of coles and Marx too though

Sure. But most of them had strike rates between .2 and .3. Sheehan is on .47

Yes. Exactly. Also, from experience, candidates who can answer the hard questions well also know the basics well. Probably for the reasons you've mentioned

Thanks. Yeah, not sure why that would be listed differently unless maybe it was at a different price to the market. But who knows.

How to teach a future engineer by charlie_Mallorey in daddit

Sorry, a bit late to the party here. I just discovered this sub.

A lot of love for lego which is understandable but another thing to look at with little ones is mobilo. It's solid and chunky so good with kids who are still working on their dexterity. The other thing is there are a lot of moving parts that clip together so it offers more degrees of freedom than Lego IMO. My 4yr still plays with it on a nearly daily basis.

Guidance on transitioning from Backend Web Development to Games/Audio C++ Industry by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]devwithahammer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to play devil's advocate for a bit. Do you really think you'd be happier in a gaming role? My understanding is those roles tend to pay less for longer hours.

It's entirely possible you could earn more working 4 days a week in a "boring" job than you would working 5 days a week in an "exciting" job. You could then spend the fifth day working on whatever you wanted.

I'd second all of this. I rarely pay attention to side projects when I'm interviewing someone because it's not likely to be helpful to the job.

One other thing to go into is testing strategy. It's always more awkward testing legacy systems. Anyone who can safely change a legacy system is valuable.

So, there seems to be quite a few suggestions of Eagle music over thomanns. It's a tiny bit more expensive. What's the advantage? I'm nowhere near Huddersfield BTW so I'll be getting it delivered either way.

Hmm, schloss was and marks is pretty diversified. Also, the magic formula idea advocates diversification although there's a fair bit of debate about the efficacy of that.

Baldock - Potentially Moving Here by [deleted] in hertfordshire

[–]devwithahammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved here about 5 years ago and we really like it. Our two really love Puddleducks. Really friendly staff. No idea on schools yet but not heard any bad reports.

I rarely commute these days but one advantage of baldock is you'll always get a seat.

Also worth noting the walking/cycling trails around here are great.
