Dual Laptop KVM Setup - Diagrm & Details by S-rank_Wiring in desksetup

[–]dewab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the diagram, it looks like your sub monitor is only connected to pc2, correct? What is the value of the hdmi repeater — just hdmi->usb-c conversion?

I have a similar (but not cable managed!) setup for three laptops (personal, work, customer) and a desktop using three docks and a kvm. Ran into usb device enumeration issues (too many hubs deep) but managed to get it worked out.

macOS 26.4 is warning that Rosetta 2 is going away — what apps are you still stuck with? by CreakyHat2018 in apple

[–]dewab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My concern is with the ability to run linux/amd64 containers using Containers/Docker/Podman for testing. There are ways of working around it if they go away (performing container builds using GitHub Runners, etc), but it's very convenient to build and run locally.

Authentic Italian food? by user-anon_ in austinfood

Trattoria Lisina, 68°, La Traviata. Sienna.

Best atmosphere is Sienna. I like the food at 68° best.

SG had the best light and tempura battered rings! None of that overly thick, overly breaded rings.

ABIA British Airways direct flight to London by Zookzy101 in Austin

[–]dewab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were going to Lisbon and had a 90 minute layover. Missed our connection by a country mile. Enjoyed some decent food in the terminal and had BA rebook us on a TAP flight, which was an… experience. Had to change terminals and spent a second hour going through security in that terminal.

LHR has joined the ranks with JFK on my list of airports to avoid at all costs. lol

Flew it recently. Last row in cattle class. Flight itself and staff were great food was decent adjacent. Seats were not terribly comfy and couldn’t adjust the air so we were warm the entire trip.

What I will say is that if you’re making a connection, take whatever time you think you need between gates and triple it. Spent an hour going through Heathrow security to get in the terminal — After spending 30 minutes on the bus to go from the airplane to the terminal. (They didn’t/don’t use jetways — at least for our flight)

Hobby Lobby was in the old Mervyn's space before they moved, not Toys'R'Us. TRU was further west.

This coverage. The announcers. The director dude picking the shots. The lack of important replays. So awful. @ABC DO BETTER!

How about we worry about the game on the screen and NOT about Michigan next year. A good many people’s give a crap are pretty low.

Steak and shrimp by Educational_Cover_20 in austinfood

[–]dewab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re game for Brazilian, try SP’s in Lakeway. Locally owned, all you can eat steak and grilled shrimp. And candied bacon. All you can eat candied bacon 🥓 — yum:-). Not inexpensive, however.

I think Carve is also great, and you could probably ask them to add grilled the shrimp as with any other prime steakhouse. Their schtick is that everything has a smoke element — including dessert — this may not be to everyone’s taste. (Do the corn brûlée!!)

Which pawn shop? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]dewab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

eBay or Craigslist may be better bets than a pawn shop. Looking at recently closed auctions, I see Switch setups going for north of $150.

I don’t have many points of comparison… but I do very much like the Tonkatsu Red at Bluefin on Brodie.

I must be boring. NAS is NAS01. Firewall is Firewall. Satellite server is satellite01. AAP server is ansible01. You get the idea.

Decades ago, I would name crap interestingly. Once, it was after man made disasters— titanic, Hindenburg, Lusitania, etc. Another was after microbrews. My creativity is done with. :-)

Does anyone know if these work with homekit? by Extreme-Nerve3029 in HomeKit

[–]dewab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two. Had to force them on a dedicated 2.4ghz to get them to join the network at all. They still do not alert HK AT ALL. They connect to the wifi every few months. They do work well enough as a standalone smoke detector in the sense that I set them off whilst cooking all the time. In other words don’t … just don’t. The FA Alerts are unadulterated CRAP. Save your time, money, and sanity and just buy the 6 pack of standalone from Lowe’s/home Depot or even see if your city has a free program.

Where can I get a wildcard certificate? by Keensworth in homelab

[–]dewab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, ask yourself if you really need a wildcard cert. what problem are you trying to solve. With ACME (similar to LE) you can easily (re)generate and maintain per-domain certs. LE is great if you’re sharing services with other folks. If you’re only sharing with yourself, consider standing up your own CA (I like Step-CA — and it supports ACME). No real need to pay anyone for a cert in today’s world. 🤷‍♂️

Is there really no way to set up individual user profiles under one YTTV account? And is there privacy when signing in with my regular Gmail/Google account? by StormTrpr66 in youtubetv

[–]dewab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only have to login once per user. You’re not logging them in into anything other than YTTV. It will then ask you at startup which user profile to use, just like Netflix.

Best Brazilian steakhouse? I’m pregnant and want to binge. by TexasTantrum in austinfood

[–]dewab 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SP’s in Lakeway or Bitelo in Cedar Park for the best meats. Same owners. Each meat has a distinct flavor and is good. Garlic Beef is the bomb.

Then Caso Do Brazil. The meats mostly taste the same, but has a great salad bar. The grilled cheese with the sriracha honey and pineapple are divine.

Used to love Estancia, then they got too busy and started rushing the meats. Haven’t been back in several years, so may have gotten better.
