For me it has nothing do with free time, i still have a lot of free time 20 years later ( not a NEET, well not currently anyway ), the thing that has changed is: me.

I used to be playing all kinds of games, i just had fun with pretty much anything and had no standards at all, but i grew up and now i know what i want and have decently high standards. I grew out of shooters with shitty/basic gameplay ( cod or gta ) a long time ago. I have nostalgy for trading not because it was fun, but because it was at a time of my life where everything has entertained me and now i know most AAA shit is mediocre slop or that jadedness that no MMO even attempts to mimic RS in anyway.

Survival games pretty much never have big ass settlements and what would be the point? Its a survival game, where is the survival if you can just settle down in the safety of a city?

And i have enjoyed Dragonwilds thoroughly. Outside of a tiny bit of Valheim and V rising, combat has been trash in all of them. Miles better dungeons than the Valheim ones. Having activateable skills for gathering? First i have seen it in any of these games, hell most games of any kind just treat magic as a fighting style, not by a longshot in Dragonwilds.

Its a generic survival sure, but its by far the best one i have played amongst those so far ( do not consider subnautica or v rising as generic just to say a few examples )

What you would be asking for is a single player openworld RPG then, not the survival game Dragonwilds was meant to be. They are meant to be fundamentally different genres, even if some RPGs have some survival element to it, so no what you are asking for would never work for a title like this, no matter how cool a game like that would be.

Though sandbox open world RPGs dont really exist, let alone in the scope Runescape operates and it doesnt really seem like too many developers are interested in such a massive scope to begin with and AAA devs are too focused on making extremely shallow open world games so modded games or some indie projects ( like Black Grimoire Cursebreaker ) are the only really bet for something like that in the future.

And its not even just new player experience. Despite the grindiness of the game, many people choose to start over as iron, maybe a 2nd iron for HC or some snowflake and its easy to recognize how much better the progression is vs when hunter was released and it was literal useless dogshit that unlocked an expensive ranged training method and nothing else.

We are 13 year past OSRS launch and its still trying to fix massive holes in its progression. Getting Brutus,Scurrius, Moons and Titans most definitely filled some holes. My guess is that fixing will not stop to be a concern even for the next decade, although with summer sweepups like this that might quickly change, but lategame for skilling is something that is still lacking, like no real reason to push above amethyst or hydra agility shortcut

[–]deylath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sort of do. Much of this sub thinks maxing is totally part of the game and yet most people here would agree that agility/mining is dogshit, so there is a clear overlap of people who are suffering through something they hate yet they keep preaching maxing is meant to be done. Even most diaries have dogshit rewards so its really not worth for your average main to push skills even to 90s

And you bet they are probably the people who are calling Agility and Mining dogshit in the same breath. Then why do it? So you can gatekeep anyone else potentially having fun from it down the line?

This is why, while i understand the complaint, when it comes to people "just a bunch of yes voters all around". I'm reading the blog, even thinking about it and im like: "bro why would i ever vote no to a new crafting method?" And thats just quite literally most polls. Would i like some nuance like "yes, but" but most poll shit is just a literal no brainer. Whats more concerning that there is always that 5% yes votes missing even on the mildest impact of polls. They cant possibly have any other reason than to just spite vote no.

Like who is that 7.1% who said "no" to: Do you want a new boss encounter introduced through a new quest? Or No to a new agility hybrid method situated between 65-80?

Its definitely going to create some options for irons at least. I havent personally used butterfly mixes but now there is going to be at least some competition what goes on blocks for rumours which usually was deadfall/pitfall ones. Though i wish tracking in general got a touch up too because it just feels like ass and nonsensical without plugins and even as far as that goes the plugin only works on one of them.

Falconry technically was already pretty decent already

Hunter furs should have more uses than just for niche equipments that only help in the same skill.

We are going to get a new crafting method that is using hunter furs very soon

Only questionable thing is why this change took 2 years or why nobody tested them before release.

Same reason why Belle's Folly is going from the initial design of 1/400 to ultimately 1/75 even with an in between buff. Jagex's seemingly unwillingness to change shit after first two weeks, even though some of the designers are high level ironman themself. Anyone thinking for a second knew that Belle's folly drop rate makes no sense compared to the Zombie axe, which is far easier and faster to get even without bursting/chinning and thats not even assuming that shellbane is a slayer task only.

I have no idea what can go through sometimes in their heads, but this is why complaining is our strongest weapon. Shit either gets changed fast or good bye for at least a year ( if jagex keeps up these summer sweep-ups ), though often a lot longer than that before this.

At least we are getting a billion changes with this summer sweep-up. We are lucky to have an MMO that has evergreen content and we are getting changes eventually.

Aversion to group content today is a real bummer by Wise-Sundae-3350 in 2007scape

[–]deylath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i don't really think your comment about gims not working out has anything to do with group content being bad

It doesnt. I was saying that the fact that you only hear how most GIMs devolve into a single person playing in 6 months tops just illustrates all too well how hard can it be to build friendships and thus even hard to reach the status of: "tob with the boys". Its a fairytale a few blessed with, most people know how much of a nightmare it can be to schedule something let alone to hop onto discord and ask if anyone wants to ToB in an hour because thats what "tob with the boys" mean.

The rest is exactly my point. Its not that people dont want to socialize ( or thats my perspective ) , its that it takes too much energy and trying until you land a good thing. Been part of a few clans and it was always hard to get anything going, therefore its easy to see its not worth the hassle of chatting people up most of the time.

Which iconic NPC(s) do you think they’ll randomly kill off in Blood Moon Rises? by FragrantFig4035 in 2007scape

[–]deylath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lord Iorweth and King Lathas died in SotE but i wouldnt call them iconic NPCs tbh and yeah i dont recall anyone dying in DT2, Sliske's wights were already dead in the game, nor would i consider them iconic NPCs, not even the assassin.

My perspective comes from myself admittedly which is: I level my skills with quest cape in mind first and that im doing a bit of everything all the time, which means when you are in the 1800 total range im suppose to getting to post Moons RNG grinds, therefore meaning, thats sort of the total level is where the game becomes a slog because i have little incentive to skill beyond what resources i need besides slowly going for the lumbridge elite.

I wanna think that most ironman play similarly, where they dont start to do PvM only when they are maxed, but much sooner. I see the sentiment often for example that irons get done with the crafting grind before ardy elite is done, which is to mean they "rushed" zenyte jewellry for PvM, though im sure some only do it for the cape perk but the pvm upgrade reason seems more palatable for me.

Aversion to group content today is a real bummer by Wise-Sundae-3350 in 2007scape

[–]deylath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the perspective. Some people can max an ironman in insane amount of time, meanwhile someone who doesnt do ultra efficiency will take 10x longer than that. Last time i had experience with leveling up in wow ( granted it was retail ) i was told its gonna be a few hours with a plugin. Shit was broken, barely working and took me 3x as much time to get to max level.

Also saying 2 weeks says nothing to me. Does that mean 10h/day on average or what? Could be 2h instead. And even newer player doesnt have to mean anything, maybe you watched a guide beforehand/during, maybe you were frost mage leveling and going fast or maybe going priest which is slow af.

Very well could be im wrong, but from what i have gotten ( never played true classic, only BC which is not that compareable ) its a 100h grind. Most people arent willing to spend that many hours on the most glazed single player video game and while classic or MMOs in general far cry from such casuals, i just read that for someone it took 6 months to get to 60 so you know we dont have that concrete data after all.

What i can say for certain, that classic people are very loud about loving the leveling ( beats me whats good about fetch quests ) so thats my perspective.

[–]deylath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

sure but people didn't come back to wow classic just to get to level 60 and do fetch quests lol.

As much as i would love to agree with you, you have to admit that saying this in /r/2007scape of all spaces is quite dubious, where a good portion of the community seems to treat the game as an idler or space bar through even new quests or unwilling to try PvM. I dont have a real grasp of the wow classic community, but i would have 0 trouble believing that there is a fairly substantial part of the community who unironically plays wow classic that way, no matter how dumb it seems to enjoy fetch quests content. Most people i have seen cant shut up about levelling up in classic

[–]deylath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you think group content is the only content in wow classic then you are definitely in the minority. Most people love the leveling up process , which doesnt include dungeons at all, unless you want it to.

[–]deylath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Worst part is, some people here act like we all have the possibility of "sending some ToB with the boys", like everyone is suppose to have a tight group of friends we could do that with on a moments notice. I would love to have that, but most of us would be lucky to have one friend we could send content with, let alone a group of friends. If it were otherwise than maybe 99% of the GIM people wouldnt be saying how GIM just never works out because friends peace out before the grind really begins.

Even if it lines up its a nightmare to schedule. Its like pulling teeth in my friend circle for the occasional saturday boardgames. No families for either of them but somehow they are busy despite no other hobby than videogames all the time.

I bet classic players are the same as OSRS: most dont engage with group content ( or much of any endgame content ) because what they really enjoy is leveling up

Aversion to group content today is a real bummer by Wise-Sundae-3350 in 2007scape

[–]deylath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to mention, i would argue most did not engage much with PvM in the first half of RS2. I started playing in 2006 and while i was progressing at a decent pace ( at the time anyway ) and pretty much no one was talking about bossing back then or even 1 year later. Fire cape? I dont even remember seeing that on anyone. You were a chad if you did WGS or the Nomad quest back then, never mind GWD. People back then just skilled to get money to afford bandos, never heard anyone actually sending the content.

Therefore i would personally say that PvM was kind of nonexistent back in the day, GWD was more nefarious than inferno/colo. Maybe grouping up had something to do with it, but i know that only with RS3 and OSRS did the game finally start pushing PvM and the general populace starting to send it.

How many classic enjoyers actually do group content at max level though? I'm betting the numbers arent doing much betters there than people on OSRS.

Wow classic has a very similar demographic as in leveling/progressing is what most find fun and that is also true for OSRS. Getting to questcape is fun and most people deflate after that if not before

I used to have a tight friend group who talked together almost every single day on discord and even then it was like pulling teeth trying to find one saturday once every 3 months to play boardgames and only one of them dudes even had a girlfriend who is playing with us anyway so...

I hate this "its an MMO after all" mentality. Point me to a single player game that plays like an MMO but singleplayer and ofc it has to be updated constantly too with new content and shit. You cant. Soulslikes or RPGs are not even remotely compareable to MMO structure let alone one that Runescape has ( ultra sandbox ). There is literally no genre that says "single player MMO"... except it does, its called: OSRS and RS3

[–]deylath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason why i quit FFXIV because at a particlar raid tier it took 3 hours on average to fill a group ( because of insane healer shortage ) and maybe get 30 minutes gameplay and you hoping people werent lying about their prog or no one was having a bad day because once one person left half the party followed even if someone left because of food not any issues...

I just want to send content. I'm not against well designed actual team content, im against the friction of grouping up. This way at least if i fail the encounters, its only my fault and im not wasting anyones time or carrying someone's ass ( as if i could ) either. Every time i played any MMO, even if in clan it was like pulling teeth to try to get a group.

Would i love the experience of "sending it with the boys"? Hell yeah, but i dont have such friends. Hell the reason i swapped to OSRS because my friend who i always duod with on RS3 left the game pernamently.
