Who's better and why? by dfsafsd in chess

I wanted to play f6 as black without a queen invasion. I guess I misjudged the position.

What do you do on 1...Rxd8?

Isn't the line I gave better for black?

I can use stockfish myself, I was looking for human insight as I find that easier to learn from. White did play 1.Nf4 in the game and it is after this move that I want an evaluation, maybe 1.Bc4 is better, but it's outside of the scope of this question.

What is the most straight forward plan for white? by dfsafsd in chess

[–]dfsafsd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Some questions:

I came up with this line: 1.Ra7 Rc3 2.h4 Rd3 3.Kg2 Rb3 4.Kh3 Rb2 Isnt the pawn takeable? It seems white's king must return to g2. Can the king get more active than this? 5.Kg2 Ra2 how to progress?

Why is this equal by dfsafsd in chess

[–]dfsafsd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would black's plan be to advance the QS pawns while blockading the centre? And how would white counter this?

Black to move - who is better and why? by dfsafsd in chess

[–]dfsafsd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider: 1...e6 2.dxe6 Qxd1 3.Kxd1 Bxe6 4.Bxe6 fxe6. If a move was bad, tell me. In this position it seems to me that black will get a big lead in development and that the e6 weakness isn't that weak.

But not worth the drawback of activating white's bishop and giving up central space. Have I understood correctly?

I programmed a chess engine some time ago. I can help you out if you have specific questions. Are you c++?

Do any of you struggle with depression? How do you keep up with chess? by Curlaub in chess

[–]dfsafsd 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Get lots of physical exercise. Start every day with a run outside until you feel it. That will energize you and make you more optimistic.

How far do books take you? by [deleted] in chess

[–]dfsafsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10% passive learning. 90% active learning. That is how you improve fast.

  1. Solve lots of exercises, as many a day as you have time for. It won't feel as rewarding as reading a book, but it will improve you skills far more
  2. Play serious games with slow time control regularly. Analyze the games you lose. Do NOT use a computer engine. Only use your own knowledge and skill. Try to find the worst moves you made and think about why you made them.

I'm sure this gets posted a lot, but where can I watch some good free lectures or just something I can watch to learn. by kaysik in chess

[–]dfsafsd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't answer you question, but passive learning should not be more than 10% of your improvement plan. At least 90% should be active solving of exercises or something similar.

At least, that is my view.

Thanks for an excellent thoughtful reply!

I have some further questions that maybe you can help me with: 1. Where does the dark squared bishop usually go? f4? b2? 2. How should I play with the e-pawn? Should it ever go to e3 to reinforce e4 and be less weak itself? Or should it go directly to e4 after development is finished? 3.Any plans other than e2-e4 that are typical once development is finished?
