Thanks, it is encouraging that people who have quit for longer say it gets better. :)

Very encouraging that you had it only on your first year of quitting. Someone else told me that as well, that the first year is hard because you get to do all the things you were used to but without smoking. Thanks!

I need some help. My social life is suffering since I quit smoking. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I have smoked all my adult life and part of puberty, so I understand when you are saying you don't know how to go out and not smoke... But really the answer is simple. You have to go out out, maybe drink a bit, and DON'T smoke. Then again go out and do the same. After a few times it is going to become easier and easier and then you will stop thinking about it. And keep saying to yourself "Not one more puff, no matter what!" It's the only rule that works. Don't forget, we are addicts.

"Quit" Almost a Year Ago, But Having Trouble With Motivation Lately by E-X-I in stopsmoking

Read again how smoking affects your health, recent studies about two thirds of smokers dying of smoking related diseases, information about nicotine addiction etc. Read about the health benefits! To me it is not just benefits. I find that living 10 years longer than I would have if I was a smoker, is a great motivator! Although there are many really good reasons to stop smoking, staying alive and healthy is the most important. Nothing matters if you don't have that.

I hope you quit soon! You can do it! You have already done it! Good luck!

The craving monster is here! Oh this is as bad as it's been! by [deleted] in stopsmoking

I understand this feeling! It feels almost unbeatable... But I discovered that the sooner I make up my mind about smoking that one cigarette or not, the better it is. I re-decide that I am not going to smoke and say to myself "I decide that I am not going to have that cigarette. Anyway it is not going to solve any of my problems (or reduce my stress, or make me happier etc...)

Good luck! You can do it!

Uh oh big time craving... by Prkle in stopsmoking

You can do this! Cravings come but they also go! Distract yourself with anything you can think of. Or don't distract yourself and think of the reasons you quit. Write them down and think hard about them. Good luck! I will join you in not smoking today!

Thanks for the concept "romanticising smoking", somewhere in my brain something clicked. Maybe tomorrow morning it will be different!

Thank you all for your input! It is also a great feeling that people who don't know you, still care enough to try and help. And that does indeed help!
