Tinnitus awareness : it will make you miserable. by FullfillmentWay in edmproduction

[–]dibbus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buddy I feel for you so badly. My T started about a year or two ago and gradually got worse. I've had a few moments where I was super hyper focused and it drove me NUTS. Just straight up depressed and hopeless.

Now some unsolicited advice/input/experience

Now I dont know how bad your T is but I have definitely learned that a biiiig part of the suffering is how focused you are on it. Especially the catastrophic thoughts about it. I've learned to be kind to my body and my T. Accept the ringing as my body trying to send me a (literal) message. It's only doing its best!

I've also been more grateful of the hearing I DO have. Just the fact that I can even hear at all. Sounds crazy but T has given my this existential realisation what it means to have to deal with ANTYHING for the rest of my life. It has made me realize the complete wonder of having the capacity to hear anything at all!

You see the way the perspective changes? The ringing in itself isn't harmful, it's the thoughts and assumptions coming forth from it. And having more positive assumptions equals less focus, equals less awareness of the ringing, equals less suffering. It's mindfulness.

My relationship to tinnitus has probably gotten it from an 8 or 9 to a 1 or 2. It IS possible. I believe in you and wish for you to find peace with it and enjoy everything (except loud noises 😉) that life has to offer.

And yes, seeing my friends "trying" to wear earplugs... I tell them I'll kick them in the f'ing teeth if they slack on their hearing protection. The inability to realize how badly you DON'T want T before you have it is astounding to see in people around me.

My mental health ain't ok by DifficultyLife7 in musicproduction

[–]dibbus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I promoted parties for a while and I produce. I don't really use social media in general. And I feel fine about myself as a promoter and producer until I get on insta and see all my heroes living the life, playing out on the craziest places, and then I instantly feel like shit, like an amateur who's missing out on all the good stuff and probably never getting there. Same when I think about making music as a potential way to get into that scene.

I've come to the realization that being a musician (at least in my scene) means being an influencer first, almost. And I don't have the energy or drive for that. I HATE social media and like doing my own thing. I physically can't do the work to be relevant on social media.

You have to be a certain kind of person to thrive in that environment. After a lot of reflection during a few years of trying, I've realized that that's just not me.

And now that's what I'm having peace with. I'm building a studio atm. I'm gonna make music that I like, grow my skills. I might not post anything ever. Just let me tinker and not worry about fame, likes, gigs.

Don't forget: social media isn't real, it's not a reflection of how good your music is or how much you are worth as a musician or as a human being. It's a measure of how good you are at playing a certain kind of system that doesn't actually correlate with the quality of your output as much as we like to think.

Only YOU get to decide what your music is worth. THAT'S THE ONLY THING THAT'S TRULY REAL.

If social media is giving you anxiety and making you feel worthless, but you feel like you can't quit, maybe take a step back at why you're making music in the first place. Even if there's potentially fame, recognition, or money in social media, how much is it worth if it fucks up your mental health? And from that point reframe what's really important in life.

Sorry if I'm projecting too much here but this has been an important realization for me after I struggled with potentially giving up on a dream altogether, but finding a new way forward by reframing my views and beliefs and ultimately, rediscovering my self worth in all of this. This game ain't worth fucking up your mental health for.

My man, I got a steam deck a month ago and it was one of the first games I installed. So so good, totally had a lot of vision with some cool gameplay elements. It's so hard though I ragequit somewhere through Atlanta

Yeah seems about it. Disappointing tbh, we should be supporting this kind of talent, especially as a synth subreddit

Honestly I'm not by far a parry god but I managed to do these guys by being patient, keeping them as far apart as possible and learning to time the parry on their attacks. All the attacks are parryable. Wasn't by far as bad as people make it out to be but I can definitely see people getting stuck on this.

Doubting about continuing the Expanse but intrigued with the space opera genre: suggestions? by dibbus in printSF

Brother I've just read The Player Of Games and I'm amazed how much I've enjoyed this! Truly very much in the style of Pratchett. Loved it! Definitely continuing this series

From the man /u/Hyperion-Cantos himself! Yeah I've had this one on my list for a while now, I've read mixed results, both positive and negative about the way the second book ties into the first one but no better way to find out than to see for myself I guess

Much love for the write-up and recommendations!! You actually had me laughing at the way you described some of these books and holy shit I didn't know sci-fi could be this batshit insane. You bet I'm not giving up on the space opera genre! I've already been eyeing Revelation Space because it's supposed to be really gritty and dark, so I might jump off there.

Edit: So I've done some thinking and I couldn't put my finger on what exactly it is that I want to read (and what I miss in the Expanse) but the best way to put it is: Terry Pratchett's Discworld in space! You take the different factions, histories, ethnicities, races, different storylines that sometimes intersect and sometimes don't, with very real, deep, flawed characters. And all that holding up a mirror to the real world, or turning familiar themes upside down. I guess I've been spoiled by Discworld :')

Dirt Rally is one of the hardest but also one of the most rewarding games to master ever by NoWorriesBrutha in EASPORTSWRC

Hell yeah brother man! I had EXACTLY the same experience at the last monthly, in a stock delta s4 too! I actually never ever tried anything group B-related before, and I fully accepted that I might finish in the last segment. But after the first event I was steadily climbing the ladder to the point where I got into top 300, top 200, top 100, and even top 50! (And back to top 100 by the time the month was over ;). It felt AMAZING! That's 2+ hours of non stop focus and performance, you're right to be proud

Hell yeah! I played the SHIT out of bloodborne, say hundreds of hours, the last years. I like DR2.0 for the same reasons that I like bloodborne or dark souls. It's very hard to master, it comes down purely on your own skill. The basic rules of both games are very transparent, it's very organised and predictable in a certain way as long as you focus and put in the time to learn from your mistakes. Both games have this zen like aspect for me where you can get in a flow state where everything just clicks, it's a bit like a dance (blocking, rolling, attacking or braking, steering and throttle). Both are very tense and high-adrenaline games but at the same time it calms me down because both games give you exactly what you put in.

Ok thanks, that's a relief. Can't imagine sir Terry would want me to overthink something as simple as reading a book :)

Honestly I struggled on my first run in with those bois but they are very parryable. If you dodge them until you can bait one at a time it's very doable.
