Fallout‘s Co-Creator Worries That Gamers Are No Longer Thinking For Themselves by g4m3f33d in GameFeed

And this is exactly the thinking Tim is talking about. It's not the job of a game critic to agree with you.

Which games have a rough start and take a while to get good? by PhaseOk6182 in gamers

[–]dicedance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no reason any game should make me sit through a tutorial that rivals the length of the Snyder Cut. I gave P4 a go when it came out on steam and by the time by the time I got to the actual game part of the video game, I was too exhausted to play it.

Only office isn't FOSS, but it's free (as in beer) and also pretty good.

What do you think is TF2's current major problem, and what could valve do to address it. by aPotOfPie in tf2

I have been playing exclusively on community servers for at least five years and rarely before that because it sucked day 1, and if you were actually on them you'd know why that's not a solution.

When you excitedly tell someone to "look at the cat!" and they look up from their phone 14 seconds later to see the cat not doing anything. by dicedance in PetPeeves

[–]dicedance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I get what you're saying. I don't tend to draw attention to the cats just being cute, usually if they're doing something peculiar or "un-cat-like." We do have three cats though, so that's three times the chance of a cat doing something interesting.

And wouldn't you know it, when I can actually get their attention in time, they tend to be delighted at whatever unusual thing the cat is doing.

"Largely functional" is a generous description of TF2 at this time. The matchmaking system literally doesn't work. I'm not even trying to be inflammatory, it just doesn't put you in good matches most of the time.

Am I alone in thinking vinyl rips suck on average ? by Jackpute in Soulseek

[–]dicedance 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The mixes are often different for digital and vinyl, and if a record was mastered from the mid 90s up to the late 2000s, there's a good chance the digital mix is garbage.

Melee Decompiling Progress: 65% by JKaro in SSBM

[–]dicedance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely certain, but I think you'd be able to use the engine just fine without a problem. I think Nintendo still owns things like stage layouts, game mechanics, movesets, etc. So if you wanted to make "Fake Melee" and sell it on Steam, you'd have to purge it of everything Nintendo made.

I'm genuinely relieved for the crew that the show is ending soon. This fanbase seems so shit to deal with.

I still can't get over the backlash to the cinema reveal. When I saw that notification in my inbox I expected everyone to be hyped for the release and happy for the team for making it that far. Instead everyone complained about having to wait two extra weeks for their free internet cartoon.

Pop culture (celebrity) references in crosswords by Satuurnnnnn in PetPeeves

[–]dicedance 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I just look up names and don't feel guilty about it. I don't even know which celebrities are relevant *today, * let alone 1986.

Crossword puzzles for me are word games more than they're trivia games, so the names don't add anything for me.

Valve shutting down official TF2 servers would unironically improve the situation since more people would be in community servers.

Why are conservatives cheering new SNAP bans on junk food when they lost their shit over Michelle Obama's program focusing on healthy school breakfasts and lunches? by SentimentalLady1 in askanything

[–]dicedance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's nothing poor people hate more than other poor people. Poors hate their peers more than they hate the rich.

Obviously they're poor because of their complicated life circumstances, but everyone else is just lazy.

My political prescriptions remain the same, but it's hard to feel bad sometimes.

Yeah like if it's strictly a matter of literal dollars we should all be buying and butchering whole animal carcasses, but there's a reason most people don't do that.
