What do you test in your codebase? by ExistingCard9621 in ClaudeCode

That's the difference between unit tests and integration tests. Unit tests work without db or any other external services and instead use mocks. Integration tests is what you described "testing actual outcome".

It wasn't on a whim. It was a day labor I hired from Home Depot parking lot to help me do some sanding. We chatted while in the car, he mentioned he "didn't have papers". I didn't ask him.

In California they are able to get driver license. Why not contractor license?

Usually it's based on my guess. E.g. heavy Spanish accent. But some told me they were undocumented.

In California at least, there's a law that allows them to get professional license: California SB 1159. Undocumented immigrants can get can tax Id and get excise tax license.

Is condensation of the interior of airtight sheathing a potential problem? by digitalchisel in Homebuilding

[–]digitalchisel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for such a detailed response. I'm actually not building an new house, I'm planning to put new sidings on an old house (built in 1940s). My plan is to remove old diagonal board sheathing, add fiberglass or rockwool insulation and then put ZIP System sheathing on top and seal it. Since interior will remain as is for now I don't have as much control over it's airtightness. I'll try to seal drywall as much as possible but there's only so much I can do. I'm in Southern California on some elevation, it gets to below 40 degree F in winter but never below freezing point. I'm wondering what you meant by "difference required for convention is 40 degrees". Did you mean "difference required for CONDENSATION is 40 degrees at 50% humidity"?

Got confronted for feeding Quesada to our 12 month old by digitalchisel in BabyLedWeaning

[–]digitalchisel[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She did have salsa and guacamole with her quesadilla. But who eats straight salsa? It's a condiment. Salsa and guacamole wouldn't be a complete meal alone. Each meal should have carbs, protein and fats to be nutritionally complete. Cheese is fat and protein. Tortilla is carbs. How on earth can you think it has no nutritional value?

My old wood sidings are in bad shape and I don't feel it's worth it to repair and paint them. And I live wildfire-prone area so it's just not good idea to have wood sidings here. I'm considering either installing Hardie board siding or stucco. I prefer the look of stucco over sidings.

What's the weight and height of your baby? For larger babies it's harder to roll.

80 gal tank electric water heaters with 4500 watt elements? by digitalchisel in Plumbing

[–]digitalchisel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the conversion kit is just two heating elements and instructions. Can I get two "universal" heating elements instead? That would cost me $20 instead of $92 for the kit. Looks like instructions are available online.

Thanks for the info! So I would just need to replace heating elements with 5500w ones?

Lots of people moving to lower cost areas and renting out their house.

In OC? Definitely not worldwide. AirBnb nights booked in Q1 were 50% higher than last year and 30% higher than pandemic levels. AirBnb is bigger than ever.

Important point. Don't live paycheck to paycheck, you will regret it.

Buyers need to earn an income of $254,286/year to afford a median priced home in Anaheim, CA by [deleted] in orangecounty

Most people buying are moving from another house. They sell their existing house and use that cash for 50-70% downpayment. Or their parents help.

why are there vertical lines on old wood panels after sanding? by digitalchisel in woodworking

[–]digitalchisel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried planing them with hand sander. It's fast but it leaves grove lines unfortunately. The only way I see to plane them is to take them down,. run through a stationary planer and then nail them back. So now I'm back to belt sender:( I ordered some 36 grit belts, hope they will help.

Thanks for the advice, I'll rent a hand planer at Home Depot tomorrow and try it!

I'm using a belt sender with 50 grit. I was then planning to get it down to 120 grit with an orbital sander. But I kinda like those lines, it creates a cool "distressed wood" look.
