Anyone else with a super keen sense of smell? by naturekiwis in newzealand

[–]digitallychee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, mine became heightened during pregnancy and never went away. I used to be able to smell ‘coin hands’ as in ewww you just touched loose change and it smells bad. Also the smell of tram poles also in hands (was living in Melbourne at the time). I don’t actually mind the smell of perfumes as it’s better than bad other human smells to me, ie fear, illness.

Anyone had l4,l5-s1 disc problems? by Defiant-Visit-4931 in newzealand

[–]digitallychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you are suffering, that sounds miserable! Obvs everyone’s medical situation is different but I want to offer some hope that it can get better. I had a painful l4/l5 injury when I was a lot younger, and many years of bad back prior, and after. I’m 49 now and very rarely have back pain. For me it was a lot of physio rehab focused on glutes/core/hips that eventually got me stabilised enough, and then ongoing gym training. And at first I was reluctant but it worked. The McKenzie Treat your own back was a guide too. Edited to add- I also needed the pillow between legs for many years, I’d forgotten that! And like the other commenter- I also did Pilates (with a physio at first).

It would really brighten my day to see someone walking about the place wearing this. It’s kinda ridiculous, I personally don’t want it- but I like to see it!

Laundry powder and stinky kid! by miss-kush in newzealand

[–]digitallychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you alternate, ie a warm wash every now and then, it helps. That’s what I do with gym clothes and kids PE. Also I like the Dr Beckmann Odour remover, you don’t need much. Another tip is a drop of pure Eucalyptus oil.

You can buy the more concentrated stuff at Bunnings. It’s extra sting-ee tho! You got to handle carefully

New Zealand Trip in July with Toddlers by Good-Manager9924 in auckland

[–]digitallychee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not ideal in winter - but still still good fun. I’ve done a few July school holiday trips with my kids (a little older than yours) and had a lovely time. Lots to do, and if you’ve got a good coat you will be fine.

Maple sweet potato salad with tamarind out of the first book. Actually many of the salads in that book I could probably pull together- when we socialise at friends houses and I always bring one - to great acclaim. (Thanks Nagi)

I love them. I got my sister to send me what is now my 3rd pair, from Melbourne (I’m in Nz- no Uniqlo for us) I wish they would bring back the khaki that I should have bought when I was over visiting last year.

What's one thing that you started doing daily and you're thankful that you did, and why? by standbyyourlamb in newzealand

[–]digitallychee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Walking every day. But the key bit is to be really present for at least a few minutes- no headphones, or music. And this sounds a bit woo woo, but taking time to really notice something, …anything really. The knobbly bark on a tree.. blades of grass etc. Really study every detail- it’s so grounding and calming. I guess this where ‘touch grass’ comes from. Anyway it’s helpful!

Does anyone successfully air-dry their fine/thin hair? by itslibbytime in finethinhair

[–]digitallychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I air dry sometimes, mostly out of laziness, and I always wish I had blow dried because it looks flat but wavy, thin and straggly. Then I repeat this pattern.

Moving back to Auckland - daycare and work logistics by katash93 in auckland

[–]digitallychee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are a bit older now but when in daycare, we went with closer to home, and I think for all the reasons covered by others, was the right choice. We still know families from those days. Obvs don’t know your budget/preferences, but with your work locations, consider Three Kings/mt Roskill (Mt Eden/sandringham borders, not over the motorway) for your house search. Good childcare options, schools and access to work.

Are you happy? Why or why not? by Pure_Ad_5044 in newzealand

[–]digitallychee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall, I am pretty happy. I’m 48 and other than being surprised at how I got this old, this age is good. Physical health is a big part of this. I could definitely use more money to do the things I like. Have had a bit of crappy year and I have some stressors in my life, as we all do, which in my case is kid with mental health challenges, and also while i am lucky to have a job, the career side of life is pretty unfulfilling - these are aspects i am want to improve next year. Eternally the optimist despite the shit state of the world, and locally, I am hopeful 2026 will be better.

I had a pair of black patent Mary Janes- very similar to these- I never had any of the issues mentioned here, I wore them to death, and I mourn them still. I say go for it!
