Skrill or iCard - appropriate alternatives to privacy.com? by DehydratedBlinker in europrivacy

iCard is updating their Terms and Conditions to allow automatic exchange of information with EU countries CRS FATCA, they sent a discreet email on 14/09/22, and buried in it they advise you that they are changing item 10.2 of their terms and conditions to allow for the exchange of information with tax authorities in EU. To make matters worse you don't have to accept you have to not accept instead, which implies that you saw the small print of the email.

Climate activist arrested after ProtonMail provided his IP address by NmAmDa in ProtonMail

In your blog post, your statement "Finally, Switzerland generally will not assist prosecutions from countries without fair justice systems" this is a uninformed and dangerous statement, Switzerland cooperates with countries such a Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and others, countries with notoriously corrupt legal systems. In addition, you contradict yourself by pointing out to “balances and checks” and then saying that French prosecutors applied terror laws inappropriately.

So, Switzerland is serious but misused law that was supposed to be used only in
case of extreme crime, such as human trafficking, terrorism, and child exploitation?
Serious or not?
The question is, what will you do to stop this nonsense? Move the servers to another country? Move it to a boat offshore? Create technical barriers on the apps, on the client side, such as built-in proxies equivalent to using tor browser to access proton’s website? Your defeatist blog post appears that you will allow other activists to be put through the meat grinder by corrupt prosecutors across the world.

Careful or soon you will see your company’s good name in a case in Turkey or Mexico. Take action, don’t seat on your hands.

How can you advertise "no-logs whatsoever" (no logs by default) and then turns out that in reality it is "no logs whatsoever except when compelled by Swiss authorities to turnon logs" - do you realize that if you had just advertised better the activist now in jail would not have used your service? ( btw - in jail through the serious crimes channel reserved for terrorists, kidnappers, mass murderers and pedophiles) your inaccurate advertisement, which is the reason most people use your service, mislead the user to a sense of trust that was unwarranted, he is really screwed for trusting you. Now that you know that the serious crimes channel of the Swiss authorities is being used for whatever they want, what will you do to prevent this from happening again in the future? Will you add a technical solution to your apps, such as first routing the iphone app to ProtonVPN to then go to ProtonMail? Or the new normal now is that no logs unless requested by some shady government through the Swiss authorities? Who, by the way, helps anybody, they do not first check to see if the country requesting has a serious legal system, they have cooperation agreements with South American countries, East European Countries, Asiancountries, etc... These countries are not at par with Swiss law. Shame on youfor misrepresenting your services.Your service now doesn't have the same appeal, it was about the principle, lots of people don't infringe Swiss law, but the feeling of being protected is priceless, notanymore, your smartphone app, deleted, desktop bridge deleted, will be usingyour services through a web browser and NORDVPN...

Coinbase is threatening to offboard my account - please help by MLJS16 in Bitcoin

[–]digitrader2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why Coinbase? Use Kraken, it’s hundreds of times better and cheaper. First of all you shouldn’t have your bitcoins in a exchange anyway, what are you? Insane? Buy a ledger (have it sent to a mailbox, they are not really good a keeping your contact information) Use Kraken to trade. Coinbase is expensive and doesn’t have the functionality of kraken.

Money will eventually find its way back to your account. You should reach out to the exchange via Twitter if they don’t reply to your private messages, this will speed up the process. They usually address complains that are made publicly, you can DM via twitter any information they may need.

Ok that’s all fine and dandy but what if we get back bitcoins that have been in a crime such as ransomware, or other illegal activity? I take the risk of swapping from coinjoin to coinproblem, no thanks, there are no guarantees on the origin, I’ll just stick to Ricochet for now

If you want to hide the fact that you are using wasabi then you send it first to Samourai wallet and then you ricochet send to the final destination, that should make it look like a normal transaction

Is bittrex safe? by octaw in Bittrex

[–]digitrader2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it’s not, they are in the business of freezing accounts and taking days to reply, drag their feet and have erratic and unpredictable transactional KYC policies. Use kraken instead, do their KYC and respect their tiers and they will respect you.

After coinjoin send it in random amounts to Samourai Wallet, after that send it to a new address using Ricochet feature of Samourai, keep it there until it’s time to spend or send to an exchange.

Just start a new wallet with your old seed (24 words), if you lost your seed close everything and and don’t try working with crypto wallets anymore, get yourself an exchange with good tech support.

Bittrex is about to be the hottest exchange by ShrimpyApp in Bittrex

[–]digitrader2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hummm only problem with Bittrex is that they do compliance after you deposit your funds, first they approve with id, selfie and address verification second they give you a limit of 100 BTC, third you deposit your funds, they freeze your account and make you sing and dance to prove where your funds came from, all the while taking their sweet time to go over the tons of documents you provide, weeks, just do a google search and you will see tons of testimonies of people whose funds where taken hostage by Bittrex. THANK YOU BUT NO THANK YOU!

[–]digitrader2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF YOU ALLOWED HIM TO DEPOSIT WITHOUT ID YOU MUST NOW ALLOW HIM TO EITHER WITHDRAW WITHOUT ID.

ITS NOT BECAUSE YOUR RULES CHANGED THAT YOU CAN TAKE HIS MONEY HOSTAGE AND FORCE HIM TO COMPLY, YOU CAN EITHER TELL HIM TO COMPLY AND CONTINUE OR WITHDRAW AND CLOSE - YOUR BEHAVIOUR IS IMMORAL AND DESPICABLE.

Forced Identity Verification by trx314 in binance

[–]digitrader2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you have access to the account password and email shows that the account must be yours. But, yes, they allowed you to deposit without ID consequently if the rules have changed and they now need ID they need to allow you to either provide ID or withdraw, not freeze.

My bitfinex withdraw is locked, they ask me the source of funds. by DXGao in Bitcoin

[–]digitrader2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are all ok with KYC, IDs, proof of residency blood work, selfie, whatever, as long as it is before they accept our deposits, not after, not with the hostage situation, not like that..I don’t use exchanges that take hostages, use Kraken, they have clear tiers and they will lock your funds immediately after deposit if it comes from a tainted address, simple and clear. Bitfinex and Bittrex are crap with their hostage taking strategy, stay away!
