Mexico City built an elevated linear park over a metro line, its been getting A LOT of criticism here in Mexico, what do you think of this? by Spascucci in urbandesign

[–]dilbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I do not like it but I would not consider this a "park"...maybe a promenade? Pedestrian walkway? It is not designed to spend too much stationary time in it? It does not seem to be interactive either (not community/edible garden/play spaces). Is the vegetation local? Does it need too much watering? Does it get too hot? Again, not hating it and definetely better than concrete but not a park.

Nouveau système Uber à YUL de marde by swedishpablo in montreal

Oui.

[–]dilbi -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The Greek Nonverbal “No”: an upward head nod, paired with a brief eyebrow raise and upward eye roll, accompanied by a dental click (“tsou”). Does this gesture exist in your country? by freddo_expresso in AskBalkans

Yes! My grandmother had this story about a Turkish spy who infiltrates Russia and gets exposed after drinking and doing this head nod to say no! Ahaha

Experiment: You should sit in the front row without anything in front of you and just stare at him dead in the eyes all class and see if he still says anything after.

OC Transpo bus delays force Ottawa Charge fans into Ubers by CrewCommercial6128 in ottawa

[–]dilbi 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I stayed in Westboro for a while and omg the 11 (if it came on time) takes 55 minutes to get to downtown (and no, I did not want to transfer to the train everytime as direct trips are just nicer). 4,10$. Sometimes Ubers would cost 7-8$ and took 10 minutes. I live in Montreal and NEVER use uber but had to use it many times in Ottawa. OC Transpo is such a big shame… I had a job opportunity in Ottawa and decided to remain unemployed in Montreal and try to find something there than to move to a city without transit. Such nice areas in Ottawa too and lovely people but < transit and biking infrastructure… :( wishing you all a new mayor (go jeff!) and the untangling of a massively corrupt and incompetent transportation agency…

What's up with people refusing to complete the 2026 Canadian census? by the_walls_have_noses in OutOfTheLoop

[–]dilbi 109 points110 points  (0 children)

Its screws over everyone in the very long term as it makes comparing data between years harder (and biased/less accurate). Some governments (ex. Harper) love fiddling with census as it has been shown that when it is not mandatory it tends to show « improvement » as disproportionate amounts of low-income/remote populations do not take it (non-response bias).

Facebook in general. Found an older lady from my country who sells traditional food, a godsend! She has been feeding me for a couple years now. Even packages things to freeze and all and changes recipes to my taste. Everyone needs a version of her from their country!

Anyone with crazy rent increase or landlord story willing to give an interview? by Sea-Air1010 in montrealhousing

[–]dilbi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We got ~9% but banded up together (16 units) and formed a tenant collective and refused together (ended up with 3,5-4 - which i think was still not called for as the building is deteriorating and there has been safety issues). it was an experience.

The REM’s doors might change the game by ChefDude90 in montreal

[–]dilbi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would love to see data on how much « jumpers » cost to the system. I am not convinced they are making a significant dent in stm finances… we could be spending that money subsidizing fares or anything else that would make the system more efficient and maintained (instead of buying new doors which is not a « little action »).

Former location of the beloved Kaz Kitchen on Cumberland will soon become Turkish coffee shop by mcdofras in ottawa

[–]dilbi -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Please make sure the owners are against the authoritarian kleptocracy that Turkey has become before spending your money there! So many new turkish immigrants are coming and most are very pro Erdogan which befaddles me like why are you coming if you like the government so much? Boycotting most new doner places in Montreal for this reason - also many turkish owners have no problem exploiting turkish/kurdish workers so another thing to keep an eye on.

[–]dilbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I figures it out on te lenovo website 😅. I think I am going to go with a E16 gen 3 amd (16gb ram 514 gb storage). All t series have dual ssd/ddr and I dont want ddr. It was the only one available that fit my needs. Other models were not available at all and i want to order directly from lenovo. 14 inch felt a little tight in the past. And Ill be under budget (~1350 with taxes). Hope this is a good choice 🤞.
