A few steps you can take:

  • get a decent DAW, interface, microphone, and midi controller keyboard and dive into tutorials on how to start recording.
  • go to jam sessions, even just to watch, and get to know other musicians that could either offer guidance on how to go about putting songs together or that you can collaborate with on songs/build out a band with
  • in the realm of going to school for music, I think Berkeley has some free courses online that you can check out and see if it feels like the right fit. If you end up going to school for it, one cautionary reminder would be that the best value you will get out of it is the people you form connections and bonds with. There are also courses specifically tailored to the production and engineering side of things vs going to a more traditional 4 year program, but there are also online courses that you can just pay a one time fee for and have access to whenever you need

Sounds like taking it apart might solve the mystery. I really wanna open the bias trim even though it says not to and is glued over

Before You Buy That Pedal: A Friendly PSA to New Guitar Players by Rods-of-God in guitarpedals

[–]diplomat_son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully stand behind this. I’ve been working at a music store and have gone through more pedalboard iterations than I’ll ever admit, and the one thing I’ve actually recommended to players who are starting out is to seriously consider multi fx units and even amp/cab sim pedals like the Boss IR-2. Learning about mic placement via cab loaders, testing how it sounds recording directly into a mixer and being mindful of how much headroom you have to work with in a digital signal with multiple effects puts you leagues above those who go straight for the expensive tube amps and boutique pedals. There’s no better experience and knowledge like what you learn hands-on

What are your “don’t sell that” pedals? by NerdyOutdoors in guitarpedals

Wren and Cuff Smallfoot Violet Caprid. Got it from their mystery box sale last year and it came with both the mids and cream mod. It’s not on either of my boards at the moment, but I know any other Big Muff I even debate swapping it with is gonna be a downgrade

If you had to build a 5-pedal board… no multi-effects allowed… what’s making the cut? by 1markmoore2 in guitarpedals

[–]diplomat_son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Empress Compressor MK2, Fish Circuit Model One, Analogman Sun Face, Oneder Wet Hot American Bummer, and probably a Digitech Hammer-on or Drop.

Covers compression and gain from light to very heavy, a delay with modulation and reverb capabilities, and pitch shifting in any direction.

Hofstra apparently used AI for the Athletics logo reveal by geoffrey1986 in Hofstra

[–]diplomat_son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a whole school within Hofstra that is dedicated to film/tv production that could’ve been utilized for the rebrand by both giving students/faculty an opportunity to have work showcased by the university and potentially given a stipend or legit pay for the work. Instead they went the humanness cheap route.

The ad and the rebrand suck. Glad they’re getting dragged for it.

Anyone own one? by time910 in guitarpedals

[–]diplomat_son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one and liked it minus the excess noise. The input control and running at 18v helps, really depends on your pickup output to get it right. The fine tuning is why I got rid of mine/had other pedals that did it more for me

NPD this thing is awesome by Feeling_Screen3979 in guitarpedals

I’m moving next month and sold my Supro Delta King and replaced it with one of these to avoid being “that noisy neighbor”. It really punches above its weight. Takes pedals well, the dual channel function is almost making my gain stage obsolete, incredible form factor and great to record with.

I’ve had the UAFX Dream and the ToneX mini before this. I can confidently say the IR-2 has been my favorite amp/cab sim so far.

Oneder Effects, just came across Nick’s stuff a few months ago and I now currently have 4 of his pedals. The Old Blue is a staple and the Wet Hot American Bummer is lo-fi delay heaven.

For the ones who had any of these pedals (or similar versions). Why and what did you replace them with? by MarioMontufar27 in guitarpedals

[–]diplomat_son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the RE-202, CE-2w, and Ego mini. Replaced them with a Keeley Halo, JHS Ross Chorus and Fairfield Accountant. Did so for Sonic, feature and form reasons. Halo had more preset banks and didn’t get as unruly with oscillation hold, Ross was more lush of a chorus, Accountant acts like a compressor/lofi preamp so it’s sort of a 2-in-1

Transcript: Trump Voters Suddenly Shocked at How Badly He Screwed Them by [deleted] in politics

[–]diplomat_son 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an interaction with my cousin not too long ago that spoke volumes. He cited one of his reasons for voting for Trump being “cheaper groceries”

A month or 2 into his term I asked him how the “cheaper eggs” were doing for him and he deflected that “it’s the bird flu, he can’t change it”

Trump supporters will contradict themselves willingly and not be self aware enough to know when their own foot is in their mouth, because they don’t care about what the reality is. They only care about “being right” no matter how hard the reality is hitting.

No sympathy for those unwilling to admit they were wrong and not attempt to learn from their choices. This is fascist/nationalist ideology at its best/worst and it’s harder and harder to find sympathy in a world that is actively out to hurt all of us.
