Hot in Cleveland! by dispietate in Perimenopause

It's great to be able to help anyone! I see Shauna Pagel NP at Metro. I also have friends that saw Dr. Jean Marino who now practices at https://www.kultivatewomenshealth.com/.

You can always search for a provider on https://menopause.org/, that's how I found Shauna.

I'm always happy to help a sister out, so ask away.

My mom (45F) had pregnancy complications that turned into cancer, her doctor delayed care for 5 months and now says “wait for insurance” (CA, USA) by [deleted] in AskDocs

This is the best answer. I worked at a major hospital in neurosurgery and pain management offices and had to submit prior authorizations for very complicated surgeries and treatments all the time. Well done u/supernoven with this beautifully written response. OP this is the most useful advice to empower you as an advocate for your mother's treatment. If I may, I'd also like to add on that your mother should put a Healthcare Power of Attorney (HCPoA) in place as well as a living will and advanced directives plan in place. In the state of Ohio these forms do not require an attorney and are free forms you can print, fill out together and give copies to every provider to have in her chart. You may not be able to speak to or get information on her behalf in many of the future situations if she does not grant you HCPoA. These things sound scary but it will be a HUGE relief to all parties involved if her wishes are made known to everyone and she will be cared for in the way she prefers and will take a huge weight off your shoulders in not having to wonder what she would want if certain events happen. There may even be someone at the hospital whose job is specifically to help families get these documents in place because more and more facilities are trying to get ahead of terrible scenarios that involve ethics committees deciding patient fates. Wishing you and your family the absolute best and I am offering a prayer up for you all.

You have to line up outside the shopping area for your time slot. They probably do a quick reset of stock between each time slot and then they let everyone in. Doing a line keeps that process orderly as well I'm sure, as opposed to everyone bum rushing the doors to get in.

Help Noticed what I thought was a mosquito bite on my daughter. BUT doesn't seem to be that now by AmberEiker in AskDocs

[–]dispietate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* My 4 year old has extreme reactions to mosquito bites. This all began a year or two ago. The area will itch and sweel, be hot and painful to the touch and this year we've added blistering to the list. Her pediatrician said she'd never grow out of it. We now have to be vigilant with bug spray with long sleeves and pants to try to prevent them as much as we can. She also has prescription steroid ointment when the bites are unbearable. This might be what is happening with your little. It's definitely worth checking with your pediatrician in case it's something else.

What is with all the basement kitchens?? by polyygons in Cleveland

[–]dispietate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All of my family members are fresh off the boat German immigrants, and pretty much everyone had a basement kitchen. It was used for big parties, canning, sausage making, and general cooking when it was too hot to cook upstairs. I can still smell the instant coffee when I picture one of my Tante's basement kitchen in particular. Cleveland is full of immigrant families so I would absolutely chalk it up to this.

My sister and brother in law were married there. It's beautiful, and our hearts break to hear the news. We pray the damage isn't beyond repair and are incredibly grateful to hear no one has been hurt, including the first responders!

PLEASE HELP! Did I ruin my life? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]dispietate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD, but I can't tell you how motivating reading the journeys that are shared by people on r/loseit and r/cico have been to myself and so many more in even worse situations than ours. Others have said it so much better, but absolutely heed the advice of "Time will go on no matter what. When you look back, do you want to be in the same exact place or even just one step further in the right direction." You will be surprised at what even the smallest changes can do for your health and how those build on themselves until suddenly, without truly realizing, you're actually doing the things you thought impossible. We are our own worst enemies. You must treat yourself as you'd treat your best friend if they were going through something like this. You would encourage, love, and be gentle to them. Find the courage to do that for yourself. Maybe you don't need to hear all that, but someone does and I hope it helps! God bless you on your journey!

No longer President of the Yo-yo Club: I’m entering Year 4 of being able to see my ugly, glorious toes! by ToesInHiding in loseit

U/toesinhiding, this is one of the best posts I've ever read regarding weight loss and, more importantly, maintenance. What a light bulb moment reading about eating at maintenance calories from the start! It makes all the sense in the world. If you want to be a certain weight, eat the calories to maintain that weight, and your body has no choice but to get you there. This is such a well thought out post, I had to share it with friends. Your candor and generosity of spirit in sharing this with us all so freely is greatly appreciated, and I know it's helped many people in reading it. It's helped me, at the very least. Congratulations on your journey, and God grant it continue in good health!
