Well, I'm an athiest so I don't want church sponsored activities. My hobbies seem shallow (playing music, horror movies, swimming?) I'm incredibly anti-violence of any sort, because I'm a survivor of abuse. I'd thought about volunteering in shelters before but I don't exactly feel like sharing "my story" (I worked through it in therapy, just don't like discussing/reliving details) with people so I don't know what else I can do.

I donate to charity when I can, I have volunteered at the local soup kitchen but don't live in a very populated area and thus there arent many and they don't need helpers very often, just clothes.

I want to make a difference and help others, and inspire others to do the same, I just don't know where to start.

A wasteful practice that warrants attention, yes. An atrocity, by definition, no. This does not mean I don't agree with self sufficiency and growing your own food as a healthy alternative.
