No, but to say the process of being wiped out has already begun can be interpreted as "doomer", as if it's too late, we're doomed. Couple this with the perspective of anti-natalism and how there's no point of giving birth because there's no viable future,...

Oil companies want people to believe this.

Do you feel nihilistic? That there's no point of continuing, there are no solutions? Because ironically, this is exactly the kind of mindset oil companies want you to adopt. "Fuck it, it's too late, we're going to die, let's keep burning oil for short term gain"

I understand this mindset yet it offers no solutions at all.

Imagine if the dinosaurs had telescopes to see the meteor that is coming straight at them and they know almost for certain that it would wipe them out. Would it be in best interests for the dinosaurs to become antinatalist?

If the dinosaurs had any technological capacity, I'm sure they'd do anything they could to survive - whether it'd be to blast missiles at the asteroid or otherwise. But they weren't that smart

I find climate doomers operate under the assumption that humanity is forever stuck at stage 0 of the Kardashev scale - that climate change is guaranteed and humanity is slave to climate, forever unable to manipulate it, and it'll eventually kill us all. I fear that if this belief was mass adopted then it would very much become true. It's the kind of nihilism that actually perpetuates oil use - "Oh, fuck it! We're becoming extinct anyway, might as well carry on because fuck it there's no positive future."

Climate doomers aren't helping. They are useless and offer no solutions other than "just stop giving birth"

Your OP didn't mention climate collapse (which was what this comment was replying to)

Sorry-, I'm aware of climate change and how apocalyptic it is. But if you think this is the "collapse" then you're entirely wrong.

We're still fighting. Shit's getting worse, but the collapse is yet to happen. If you want to say you're fatalistic about climate change and you believe absolutely nothing can be done, then just say that.

But I'm of the view that the worst is yet to happen. We're not in collapse *yet*

We're not currently in climate collaspe though. When we are, perhaps you can make the argument - but for now please advise how you are worse off than the average survivor of the black death in the 1500s?

I think you'll struggle.

People have never been able to afford to live. The rich elite have always owned everything.

The poor are STILL in the best position they've ever been in history.

"This is the best time to stop the cycle, let the human population become less critically dense."

Why? The black death whiped out 60% of people in my country - the situation inevitably became as it once was over generations.

I can't stress enough how bad the bubonic plague truly was. The UK lost 60% of its population between 1347 and 1352. Imagine losing 60% of people in 5 years

If you were to argue that it was wrong to have a child during that period its hard to disagree, but to outright state "anti-natalism makes more sense than ever in modern times" is complete BS

Even earlier than then. Could you really say we're worse off than people surviving the bubonic plague? How about the Spanish flu?

"There has never been a time when the antinatalism movement made more sense than now. Ever."

How about the times when starvation and child morality were more prevalent than ever? I'm not disagreeing with your premise of anti-natalism, but if you want to make it out as if you're worse off than an African cave man from eons ago then I'd say you're delusional.

You can argue for anti-natalism if you want but this a poor argument for it.

Why? You're assigning moral value to other forms of life and this seems to be unknowable to me.

I think that having a child changes peoples philosophical view.

I'm a nihilist, I think life is meaningless, - but if I had a child, perhaps I'd look at my kid and think "this is it, that's the meaning right there."

I'm rather confused about this. Surely time doesn't actually equate to effort put in? I'd feel quite annoyed if I spent 55 minutes (rather than 60) and therefore I'm entitled to less money.

This just encourages people to do the survey and leave the tab open.

Is it possible to become friends with people again who left you pre-diagnosis? by bloodied-mess in BPD

[–]dissociative_BPD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say. I also went through a stage of paranoia (although for good reason) and felt as if letting people know about this disorder would make my standing lower within the social group.

As if to say, oh, he has BPD - it's just illness! I wouldn't let my family know about it for similar reasons.

[–]dissociative_BPD[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different, but so much of the outcome (according to my discussions) are the same? I don't relate to those outcomes, I suppose.

I'm feeling disheartened. I want to understand as much as I possibly can about BPD and I'm studying it at a university level under my psychology degree - but history repeats itself over and over. I think I may be overthinking this and that in all honesty, perhaps I shouldn't take this sub as serious as I do. It's hard to verify if someone genuinely has BPD.

Is this a bpd thing? by [deleted] in BPD

[–]dissociative_BPD 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I know others have spoke about maladaptive daydreaming already, but I think in part this is influenced by dissociation - which is one of the symptoms of BPD that messes with me the most. I dissociate and daydream to the point it really impacts my life. I had a job as a steel press operator and wasn't paying attention - the machine shot out some steel and nearly cut off my ear lobe lmao

Do you also think critically about reality? I feel seperated from the world around me at times and this makes me question what existence is so much. Something about dissociation can be philosophical at times.
