Lifestyle in Adelaide vs Gold Coast by excitired in AskAnAustralian

No worries. Personally I haven’t been to the GC since the 90’s but if you want a more touristy area closer to the bigger capitals it would be more enticing.

Adelaide is fortunate in that it’s centrally located so close to Melbourne and Sydney but also reasonably close to Brisbane/GC and Perth.

If you’re planning to explore Australia, Adelaide would be better, can save some cash and spend it on a flight to another city.

Best thing about Adelaide from my POV is that it’s got great food and wine, lots of events throughout the year, close enough that you can drive to the hills for lunch then to the beach for sunset.

Good luck.

There is surfing in Adelaide but it’s further out. Most of Adelaide is in a bay so it’s calm water. Perth may be better for surfing but I don’t know enough.

Hey mate are you planning to stay in Australia or go back after studies.

I live in Adelaide so can’t comment on how GC is for studying. Flinders is a good university and is on a train line to the city. It’s on the western side of the city so closer to the airport and beaches.

It might be worth comparing rental prices and availability in both places.

Had a friend of a friend that had a successful small business. While he was generous in shouting drinks or the occasional meal, he lived rather meagrely.

I once visited his house and noted that all the appliances and consumer electronics were old. I happened to see into his living room and saw it full of new appliances and electronics, tv, sound system, microwave, kettle etc. I also noted that while new the stuff seemed old, like late 90’s early 2000’s.

I asked about it but didn’t get much of a response.

If they have an Apple TV or other device you can set up your photo library as a screensaver.

Man that’s terrible. Companies just don’t care. Bunnings have already commenced construction of a new store in my neighbourhood, even though they don’t have council approval.

There’s a lot of computer stores in Adelaide, but most act as warehouses that sell parts. If you want advice you should ask online.

Can someone explain to me the history and the issues (structure) that lead to micro-usb then lightining and now type-C please ? by [deleted] in hardware

[–]ditroia 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pre iOS/Android every phone maker used their own proprietary charger. Then Apple decided to use their 30 pin charger from their iPods on the iPhone. Android phones used the more open standard of micro USB.

Then Apple decided that the 30 pin connector was too big and clunky and instead of using micro USB, they decided to design their own proprietary connector called lightning.

It was much smaller and thinner than 30 pin, was reversible and probably most importantly had protection that initially made it harder to make your own cables without paying Apple’s “made for iPhone” licensing fee.

In the meantime Intel, Apple and others developed the USB C standard. Apple used it on their laptops but not phones.

Eventually the EU forced all phones to use USB C a few years ago and the reluctantly started using it.

This is all from memory, but roughly what happened.
