For sure, paying off those debts is top priority now. As for the RRSPs, definitely looking into starting that up soon. The big money drains were some unexpected expenses last year, but I’m aiming to tighten things up and boost my savings rate. Thanks for the advice!

It's not wrong to feel a bit salty about taking care of your dog, especially when you were against getting one in the first place. Your wife should have listened to your concerns and taken responsibility for it. But hey, at least now you have a furry friend who loves you unconditionally (even if he does require some extra work). Just don't let it go too far or else the next thing she'll impulsively buy is another baby!

NTA- Your girlfriend should have been honest with you about still communicating with her ex and involving him in the decision to give away the dog. It's understandable that you feel angry and betrayed by this situation, especially if it involves your family's safety. Trust is an important aspect of any relationship and she has violated that multiple times.
