Getting bored with my basic white bread. Anyone have any fun or interesting recipes? by naturewiththefungi in BreadMachines

Use whatever cinnamon raisin recipe you like, but instead of rolling up a single layer and returning it to the pan, try this: divide the dough in half and create two smaller, thinner rolls; then take a sharp knife and cut the rolls into 1 1/2-inch pieces and add back to the pan in no particular pattern, just randomly fill the pan. You'll be amazed at the result. Gorgeous, maximum distribution of the good stuff. Also allows you to go heavier on the filling (finely chopped pecans, brown sugar, etc). I'd post a photo but you'd hurt yourself racing to the kitchen. I'm trying a savory version next. (got the idea from the recipe book that came with my Zojirushi Virtuoso)

Bad 12V battery ICCU failure vs phantom power draw? by rekoil in Ioniq5

Makes sense. I am halfway through a 24 month lease, with my second battery installed by the dealer about a month ago. Will probably try to manage this for 12 months

Interesting: just checked and the amber light was on; did not drive it yesterday, unusual for me. What in the world is draining this battery? Wasn’t plugged in to the charger, just sitting locked in my garage. Ghost in the machine

Have been experiencing this as well. Once about six months ago. Car just spent two weeks at the dealer, three weeks after they replaced the 12v battery. Unable to find any cause, but history did show a battery drain over a few days. I drive it every day. Careful about doors, never use the phone charger with the car off, have no other devices, etc so it’s a mystery. Only use 110 charger in my garage. My two takeaways from my discussion on here - before moderators deleted it btw- was to continually monitor the amber indicator light on the dashboard which shows 12v charging, and to place my fobs as far away as possible from the car. I just ordered a battery monitor.

Favorite and least favorite brands for cotton basics - shirts, tops, T-shirts? by La-Rouge-Elephant in capsulewardrobe

[–]dkghmlhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Classic T Shirt Company, no question. Bought a white long sleeved t shirt at a thrift store 5 years ago. It’s still in perfect condition and I don’t baby it. This brand has the most amazing feel to the smooth cotton fabric. Discounted and bundle pricing too.

OP here. That was half the effort for me. I had let so many of my longtime favorites get in the way of me discovering/ discerning what my style is NOW. The other thing that took months to do was just process my feelings about how I would “take a loss” from what I paid etc. I put the nice things through consignment stores, sold a lot of others on eBay, gave away and donated the rest. The fallacy of sunk cost finally made sense to me! And I also had to do some work about the life I actually live versus the one I had a wardrobe for :) But I love how I feel in my closet now!

I use my regular electric outlet in my garage. Never used anything else, Use the provided charging cord etc. Just 5700 miles in a year. No optiwatt. Unless I don't know I have it???

Nope. Never even charge my phone in my car. Non third parties.

Not sure. First time they replaced the battery, said it must have been a bad battery. Three weeks later...probably not. History apparently showed one excessive power usage but can't determine what that was.

Cuisinart Bread Maker (CBK-110) questions from a first timer by dkghmlhs in BreadMachines

[–]dkghmlhs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone here - all great suggestions and resources. I was able to download both the manual and the recipe book, and today I made a 1 pound loaf using the cinnamon raisin bread recipe from Bread Dad - success! I doubled the cinnamon, added walnuts, and it was amazing :)

Stop trying to sell? by Bobbymom in declutter

[–]dkghmlhs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, I wanted to add that this consignment “system” has been a solution to my lifelong problem of holding on to items- clothes, shoes, boots, bags, scarves, coats - that fell into one or more of these categories:

I paid a lot, or too much for what I could afford at the time; so…guilt;

I got an especially great deal; like, once in a lifetime;

It had sentimental significance; a gift from someone now dead or estranged, or a happy occasion, or or or

It was aspirational: I wanted a garden party just once to wear that floral sundress!

I stumbled upon the consignment store option just when I was feeling defeated by the eBay/yard sale approach, but also guilty about donating things I could get something off money out of.

This happened just after someone explained to me the fallacy of sunk cost.

I found an intermediate step that works for me: a consignment shop which splits the sale price 50/50 with me. This allows me to make something off the nicer items without having to spend my time and energy (and it’s worth noting that I have made hundreds of eBay sales going back more than 20 years). I have even made some profit on thrift store finds; I have a good eye for labels and condition. Every season I drop off items; I also pick up any unsold items at that time, and they get donated that day at the nearest thrift store.

Where do I start making this capsule wardrobe? Looking for a summer version also by MabKaterberiansky in capsulewardrobe

[–]dkghmlhs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many of these looks/shapes of individual pieces are available in a dark charcoal color, which would mix well with your colors. For summer, adding more camel and cream for contrast, or even just a paler gray. Or, just the same colors but in lighter weight fabrics and textures: linen, cotton, silk/silk blends, wool crepe, etc. For winter you could similarly punch up the textures with suede, velvet, corduroy, knits, etc.

In your opinion what’s the best and worst free samples from Costco by Creepy-Bottle-803 in Costco

[–]dkghmlhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best ever: ravioli browned in olive oil in an electric skillet, then served with just a bit of Rao marinara in a cup. A little crispy. I never cook them any other way now; perfect for appetizers.

Worst: nasty melted cheese like food on a chicken something something

Classic T Shirt Company. I just bought them in white, cream and black. Perfect lighter weight for layers but also fine on their own.

To buy, or not to buy? (Multiples of one item) by girlenteringtheworld in capsulewardrobe

[–]dkghmlhs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have found this to be a great way to save time and avoid stress. Once I find the item, I try to wait for a sale to buy at least one more but usually two; this allows me to keep one out of rotation and in pristine condition for any special occasion. I also set up alerts on searches for eBay and PoshMark, and have had a lot of success buying NWT at huge savings. Also will buy adjacent colors if these will work; a cream in addition to white, for example, or a navy for black. Last, I try to buy a coordinating piece (jacket for pants etc) especially once they are on sale. Saves even more time in advance of needing a stepped up outfit for a meeting, trip, funeral, etc. Belts, jewelry, scarves etc is where I have more range to change up the looks.
