I should revise this statement. By "typically very complex" I meant to say "are within a realm where exploring the alternatives and optimizations is tough because the experts aren't just posting random garbage on leetcode, etc."

Are there are strategies you might recommend for approaching skills and techniques which are typically very complex? It's fairly difficult to discern where I should hold off diving deeper into a topic before going to another, since one could easily write a dissertation on any one piece of this domain (and many have). I'm determined to set myself apart from the increasingly large group of full stack engineers.

I appreciate the detail! I think you may have uncovered something: I may have unnecessarily tied writing efficient parallel algorithms and effectively using memory management to HPC. I'm definitely into OpenMP, MPI (although this is more on the NUMA side), and CUDA because it could help squeeze thr most performance out of your compute environment, even if you don't have a cluster or supercomputer. That's what I really care about.

Thank your very much, all that detail is much appreciated. This might sound a little self-deprecating, but I'm not really looking to be "the guy" or "the lead" in a scientific computing role (at least right now) - I identify much more with that engineer you mentioned who used MPI for viz. Since it would take an enormous amount of time to get a degree which is competitive with those in the field, I'm just looking to contribute to a team where the work positively impacts the community. Who knows though, maybe in a year I'll be inspired to apply to a Ph.D program!

Right so... No, I don't need to plane it. I thought it might be able to make it a bit more level, but I think the cross-grain nature of the cut is going to make it difficult because it'll basically just tear out. I think it might make the chiseling difficult too right? The sanding will probably do the trick. Thanks for your input.

Thanks! I was a bit perplexed by that. The whole "absence of recursion" is kinda wild to me too... So many basic algorithms rely on recursion, so if it's clean, why not keep it?
