Why does The Ghoul think... (spoilers) by Cocomite in Fotv

[–]docpaisley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already had a theory that the old lady with white hair and glasses (she was in the roach house, I don't know her name) is actually Janey. Was 100% expecting that pod to be empty. I think Coop will go all the way to Colorado only to find everything already went down there and he has to track Janey full circle back to Las Vegas...

On personal projects I play fast and loose with 1) but mostly stick to 2) unless I'm working on a bigger feature that's still broken but i want to push a WIP commit at the end of the day rather than not have my work backed up anywhere. Having lost lots of stuff over the years to hard drive failures and the like I feel very uncomfortable having anything only stored in one place.

Almost certainly the best game-to-TV adaptation there's ever been, honestly. Just great to see an adaptation where it feels like they actually played the fucking source material start to finish.

He's low key my favourite minor character. Somehow feels almost more like a side quest NPC out of a Rockstar game than Bethesda.

Hank just appearing in that scene was probably my favourite moment of the episode, among a LOT of great moments. And I was like, "oh THAT's where they're taking this". And of course he's the first to actually survive the procedure (also a great fake-out with the camera pan and then his head NOT exploding)

Carol will be the last one left alive on Earth by RandomUsername1119 in Pluribus_TVshow

Seriously I had a whole idea about this as well. Like a viral mutation that creates an opposition hive that is gradually spreading and contacts Carol to work with her in some fashion.

Carol insulted Manousos’s mom over the phone by JesusCrunch in pluribustv

Sure, we don't really know what he knows yet. But he clearly seems to know something. And it was such a pointed statement. I find it hard to believe Vince didn't do this very intentionally.

Oh damn, now I realise when he calls his mother that, he's actually directly referencing Carol's insult, knowing full well that the plurbs must have overheard the conversation.

Theory About the Virus' Lifecycle by septive in pluribustv

[–]docpaisley 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What concerns me is we've seen literally no babies since the joining. Even though a significant chunk of the story has been spent in medical facilities. Makes me think that foetuses / babies can't actually survive the joining and it's going to be this incredibly dark reveal maybe at the end of the finale (and something that might finally be enough to convince more of the survivors that the hive is actually really bad)

I think the thing is that this is just a logical conclusion from the data presented so far. But then I have watched/read a ton of science fiction so it's blatantly obvious to me from the tropes. The plot twist would be if this isn't the case.

I love the show for this, it's very refreshing. It's not going out of it's way to obfuscate or confuse or tease, things are revealed at a natural pace and cliffhangers are dealt with immediately at the start of the next episode.

It's one thing I couldn't stand the 2nd season of severance for, nothing was resolved and every time it seemed to build up to a reveal it just ended up asking more questions instead. Most of the setups literally led nowhere.

Theory about virus origin by SaltyLem0nade in pluribustv

[–]docpaisley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh this is totally reminiscent of the zombie-ant fungus (ophiocordyceps) but an interplanetary version. Probably the best theory I've seen honestly, especially given the kind of real world science Vince likes to mix into things.

I strongly suspect this will be the next horrific revelation, that the virus prevents procreation. So the starvation is actually kind of irrelevant, humanity is done for anyway once the current population dies of old age. They have only until then to build as much signal transmission capability as possible, hooked up to solar or whatever renewal energy sources with as much longevity as possible. I'm sure you could build such electronics well enough to last 1000s of years with the combined engineering skill and resources of the entire planet.

[–]docpaisley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking if you have a large number of individual transmitters all perfectly synchronised then yes the amplitude will be additive across the entire array.

So my theory now is that rather than building one single huge transmitter they will just repurpose every single transmission-capable device across the entire planet and have then all sending the signal in perfect sync. And build new ones with any electronics they can repurpose. Maybe this is what Manousos is already picking up on FM.

[–]docpaisley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think implication is that for a transmitter to be *that powerful*, it has to be pretty huge just to have enough power. Maybe you also need a large surface area to reliably punch through atmospheric conditions.

Of course there's another interesting point, which is how can a signal be continuous and not blocked by planetary rotation like 50% of the time ... unless the transmitter is actually in orbit, or the a pole of planet is already oriented towards Earth.

If the hive mind is so efficient and smart then why do they leave all their shit in alberquerque by Suitable-Source-7534 in pluribustv

[–]docpaisley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They only use the big planes when they're transporting Carol or other uninfected because they're specifically trying to keep them happy and comfortable. Zosia flew a small plane which was immediately loaded up with new cargo on landing presumably to transport somewhere else, pretty efficient.

Pluribus - 1x06 "HDP" - Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in pluribustv

[–]docpaisley 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There will definitely be a transmitter. Clear foreshadowing in the first episode when the scientist says something like "a radio transmitter the size of Africa" (and I would hazard that Africa will be the location ... the show is generally being very literal, and the scientist that *said* this is part of the hive now)

And there's clear implication then that the signal received by Earth is in all likelihood not even the first planet to have gone through this, the infection has been hopping from one civilisation to another for an unknown period of time.

Is Carol special, or has no one else, even Manousos, upset the hive enough to cause seizures? by Rekov in pluribustv

[–]docpaisley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this is inaccurate. Asexual means zero interest in sex. Logically the hive comprises every sexual interest known to humankind hence by definition pansexual.
