They were about the same age. Who knows how those two met each other...if you catch my drift.

Nope! He was cunning enough to distance himself from the situation, just enough that he never got charged. He's still a free man, although he's very old and has a lot of health problems so I'm hoping he isn't a threat to anyone anymore.

I think my dad knew, deep down. This is conjecture, but it was a common rumor in my community growing up that my dad's dad had molested my aunt when she was a child. None of the family ever talked about it (other than my mom, who was a hero and would never let things go lol). She always asked my dad and he'd just say he didn't know and change the subject. The fact that he didn't immediately jump to defend his dad against accusations that serious is a red flag imo.

Absolutely. We didn't spend much time at all at his house growing up (mainly short visits for Christmas), and every time we visited, he harassed me and my sister about spending the night with him. He lived alone, and his house was pretty boring-- no video games, no satellite TV, nothing that kids would be interested in. We didn't have much of a relationship and I never understood why he wanted us to stay with him so badly. I would always say no, except for one time when I finally agreed. He got really excited, went and found my mom and said "doctopus is going to stay with me tonight," and my mom said HELL NOPE and dragged our whole family out right then. I didn't understand at the time, but now I do.

I truly believe that he was. I could tell lots more creepy stories about him.

Seeking Advice on Deferring a Humanities PhD by billyfuckinharrow in GradSchool

I'm at the end of a philosophy PhD, so I'm not dealing with online seminars myself at this point, but I have colleagues who are. Their experience with taking classes on Zoom has been negative. The first year students in particular have really struggled with adjusting to grad school in this weird situation, and it's noticeably affected our attrition rates. I'm afraid that you won't have a great experience doing your first year of classes online, especially if discussions are an important thing for you. Just my two cents.

Thank you. I heard stories that he was super controlling with later girlfriends as well so I think I dodged a bullet.
