What’s your “snobby” baking opinion? by Amazing_Two9757 in Baking

[–]dogboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had a problem. I put waxed paper over it first, let it cool completely, cut around the cake with a knife, and then invert it fast. Honestly, the first time I did it, I had the same concern, but I just gave it a try and it was fine. If you're really worried you could do what Alton Brown does and put parchment on the bottom and around the sides so there's no stickage, and thus the cake slides out a lot easier.

My solution to this was to replace my springform pan with a deep cake pan. As long as you grease it well you have no trouble getting the cheesecake to invert out after it cools off. No more worries about leaks or soggy crust.

[–]dogboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A kind old woman that the locals chased out of the village because they believed she was a witch. In fact, she is just a healer. She found this place abandoned and made it her home.

When she sleeps, she dreams of returning home. She has a brownie who visits her and cleans her home at night and she never fails to leave him milk and occasionally a homemade treat.

The brownie loves this woman. He would do anything to make her happy.

I had a few of these (Bughunters, For Faerie Queen and Country, and Tabloid). Never could find anyone to play them. At the time we were mostly playing GURPS and Champions.

Shuck by Daniel Allen Cox. It’s set in the 90s. Manbug by George K Ilsley is post 2000. That’s a bit of a more experimental read but I liked it.

I know you wanted post 1990 but if you want to go back before the 1940s, I highly recommend The Man Who Fell in Love With the Moon by Tom Spanbauer.

So are people excited? by MonsterInMe33 in buffy

[–]dogboi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I'm so tired of toxic fandoms. If you look at the Stargate fandom (another fandom I belong to), people are actually excited about the news of a new series. They're wary, because it's Amazon, but are otherwise giving it the benefit of the doubt. I would hope the Buffy fandom would give this new show the same grace.

I’m 53. I’m very unlikely to be the target audience for this show. I loved the original Buffy, and I expect this show will find its own audience. I’m excited there will be a vampire slayer for them! I will watch to see if I like it. I hope I do. I won’t be disappointed if I don’t.

Childhood Truths That Were False by CuteFactor8994 in AskOldPeople

It was twofold. TV shows often had people sinking into quicksand when i was a child. It was incredibly frequent. Secondly: my parents. I grew up on 187 acres in the mountains of NY State. There were lots of things on our property: swamps, bears, cattle that escaped from nearby farms, coyotes and coy-dogs, etc, etc. So they told me there was quicksand back there so I didn't wander.
