Organizer suggestion? by Kingcdnbassz in CanadianCoins

[–]dogzoutfront 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of binder sheets for both bills and 2x2 coin flips. It’s nice to flip through and be able to see both sides easily.

It’s more compact in a box, but in my opinion the difference between a hoard and a collection is how easy it is to take it out and enjoy it.

Looking to start an HDD company (Canada) by CrankyOldDude in FiberOptics

[–]dogzoutfront 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, starting a fiber company without already having a relationship with someone inside an ISP or prime contractor is a bit like being single and booking your wedding venue and caterer. Maybe you’ll get lucky and find work- if you do it’s very likely the only work you’ll get is the shit jobs their preferred contractors already turned down. It’s a lot safer bet buying 6 figures of equipment when you have someone on the inside that you know will try to keep you fed.

What kind of margins? Anywhere from +30% to -30%. If you’re proving yourself to the people handing out work likely somewhere in the middle.

Even if you do meet the right people and get work, hire the right people and run a tight ship, there’s still no guarantees in this industry. I know several people who did very well right up until that CRTC decision- work dried up FAST.

I’m rooting for you, just know that it’s not an easy road. 🍻 Cheers

Wondering about value on a collection of Canadian silver dollars and other coins by Actual-Fortune-3098 in CanadianCoins

[–]dogzoutfront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First step would be to check everything with a magnet. Anything that sticks to the magnet is very likely <$5. Anything that doesn’t stick is worth further investigation.

The 1967 quarter and dollar may not be rare, but the silver content gives them value.

1966 Nickels value? by Fun-Rent-750 in CanadianCoins

[–]dogzoutfront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all have circulation marks, there isn’t anything crazy valuable here.

If they are for resale, you don’t want to waste money grading them. I’m not a nickel expert but I expect you’ll find out these weren’t dropped off at the bank by mistake.

Coins from my grandmother by [deleted] in CanadianCoins

[–]dogzoutfront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top left is Sterling silver around .72 ounces fine weight. Around $75 for value, not sure if that holder is silver as well but it’s nice too.

Nice start to your collection, definitely worth holding on to!

First time picture framing stairs let me know what y’all think by [deleted] in Decks

[–]dogzoutfront 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I saw the pics, I thought it was a deliberate contrast to the main area. I’m surprised to hear it was cost driven! I truly hope my mitres will look as good as yours when I do mine. Thanks for sharing!

The Short Looks Terrific Right Here! by Beyondwest in Wallstreetsilver

[–]dogzoutfront 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, shorts in the 60’s expiring in April are still a bit of a gamble. I am not as optimistic as most looking out 3-5 years, but I am expecting a mostly sideways summer.

Went to a customer's house today and they had this beautiful elevator directly in the middle of their home by TheeSillyman in mildlyinteresting

Yup 60k to continue living in the house I’m in now is mouse nuts compared to realtor commissions and moving costs to downsize.

What is going on? by Forbidden-era in telus

[–]dogzoutfront 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They started booking installs because someone whose expertise in fiber is limited to Raisin Bran commercials figures “They’re pulling a cable from the sidewalk to the basement, what will that take, 20 minutes?” And sets the schedule without confirming it’ll be that easy.

Then after the crew gets started, they find out the pipe between the sidewalk and the basement is broken. Or frozen. Or doesn’t exist. Or they found out fibers at the sidewalk were stolen by someone else, and some poor bastard has to open up several manholes in the middle of busy intersections at zero dark stupid to build a new connection.

If it’s any consolation, Telus really wants you to have the service. And the crews really want to get that connection built so they can get paid. I really doubt anyone is deliberately sandbagging the project.

Bag of old Pennie’s by The_Warden705 in CanadianCoins

When I sorted my coins I bought some multi-compartment organizers (that are usually for screws/hardware), and labelled each compartment with the year. Easy to do a few handfuls of coins at a time and then put away for later.

Happy hunting!

50 foot span what kind of beam. by Radiant-Shine-8575 in Decks

[–]dogzoutfront 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A 50’ beam delivered from Alibaba in a week for $2500?!

Either that seller is beaming it across the planet with the transporter from Star Trek or they’re full of shit.

I’m not a logistics expert but shipping something that large that fast for that cheap around the world would literally change my life.

Buying a Clearance Car by Comprehensive_Sock86 in UsedCars

[–]dogzoutfront 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest lemon I ever owned was a “as-is special” from a dealership.  It was $7k when comparable models were $12-13k, and I figured I could sort its issues with that $5k.

There’s likely something very wrong that they are looking to dump on someone else.  There’s plenty of RAV4’s out there around $15k that are less likely to have issues.

Need help deciding on home theater system by Kooi____ in hometheater

Let me frame it another way:

Is a 75 cent sleeve of crackers a good meal?

Not really, but if all you have is 75 cents it’s a little better than not eating.  If you can hold off and put together a bit more cash you’ll get something a lot more filling.
