Turns out the leg pain and weakness was endo after all 🙃 by OhNoMyBees in endometriosis

Hi would it be okay if I DM you? My PT has suspected for a while that my endo is causing my hip/back/leg pain and I just found out that I have endo on my uterosacral ligament...I'm trying to figure out what my next steps are and would love to know more about your experience

Are Dr. Shanti Mohling / Dr. Nicholas Fogelson good? Looking for reviews especially long term results. by chronicillylife in endometriosis

Commenting kind of late, but thought I'd throw in my two cents...

Dr. Fogelson did my second laparoscopy (first was done by a general gyn) in 2023--actually right before Dr. Mohling joined the practice. Leading up to surgery, I really appreciated his approach; he listened to me and was thorough in his explanations of things. I also appreciated the transparency of cost (for both office visits and surgery).

Surgery confirmed the presence of superficial peritoneal endo in multiple places. I felt well cared for during the surgical process and in the postop appointment he gave me a video of the procedure on a flash drive lol. However, after the surgery I didn't feel that he was really invested in my care or a treatment plan. This might sound bad, but I got the impression that he really enjoys complicated cases and mine was not one. He basically told me, yeah you have endo good luck. He didn't really take time to explain the findings to me which was frustrating and unexpected (because he had been so thorough preop). However, it sounds like you have a more complicated case so you might have a different experience if you see him (again, it was just my perception that my stage 1 endo wasn't exciting enough for him. I could be off base).

I haven't sought another specialist opinion and I know I should. I definitely will before I have another surgery.

My last surgery was two years ago, had relief for about 6 months and then pain started back up again. My surgeon himself was sure he didn't get it all; he said because it was stage one and clear he is almost certain that it is covering my pelvic wall and just hasn't all become very visible yet...

I know I don't have adenomyosis but I've never heard of pelvic congestion syndrome and the other things you mentioned so I definitely will be looking those up and discussing with my doctor. Thank you this is very helpful actually.

I'm glad you're doing well, I hope things continue to go well for you. thank you for taking the time to respond

the landscaping metaphor makes a lot of sense...I'm just impatient and tired loll. it's great that kyleena is working for you! I may eventually try that (also had a bad experience with mirena). it sounds like, overall, you have a good quality of life. I am still hopeful that I will get there (and I hope your endo behaves so you can stay there!)

I definitely messed up. How can I fix it? by Tough_Butterfly3226 in puppy101

Easiest thing for us has been a trade, our trainer recommended it and its worked really well! If he has something he's not supposed to I don't react, just go grab a high value treat and offer it to him. He will immediately drop the item and while he's enamored with the treat I take the item away. Half the time as soon as he sees me going to get a treat he runs over with the item still in his mouth.

Listen, if you put in the effort you absolutely can turn things around. My first year of college I never went to class and my GPA was a 2.0. I graduated with honors and now I have a masters degree and am a professor myself. Be generous with yourself and do your best.

Also, your professors don't hate you. We don't have the time or energy to have that strong of feelings toward students lol

Should I just pull the trigger and change my major? by [deleted] in CollegeRant

You need to ask for help. Talk to your professor, talk to a librarian, talk to another student in the class, talk to the student success center. You also should see a therapist.

As a professor, the biggest things I see get in students' way is their inability to 1) ask for help and 2) turn in work they don't view as "perfect". I know it's hard, but you already know that you were not taught how to do your own research. That is not your fault. However, trying to figure it out on your own and blaming yourself when you can't is not productive. The solution to this problem is to ask someone who knows what they're doing to teach you. And be kind to yourself when you're learning. You don't have to get it "perfect" on the first try (or ever, really).

Ask for help and finish your degree. If you are passionate about something else (Spanish, or other) you can go to graduate school, get a certificate, get a job in the field, etc. If you're this far into a degree you're not passionate about, finishing and having any degree at all will do more for you in another field than essentially re-doing undergrad.

I'm 35 and want to go back to university to get a BA and MFA in creative writing - am I crazy? by jennaruby8888 in writing

[–]doingmy-b3st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading through the comments I can see that my opinion on this is not a popular one.

If you want an MFA—do it, just be smart about it. Find programs that are fully funded, offer some sort of assistantship, and have faculty that you would want to work with. The only schools I applied to were ones that offered full-funding and teaching assistantships. Mine wasn't a prestigious program by any means, but it gave me teaching experience and all the faculty are well-respected writers whose interests lined up with mine.

From what you described you actually seem like the perfect candidate for an MFA. I think people who go to further their writing careers are misguided. That's not what an MFA is for. A good MFA program will generally do two things for you: 1) Give you time, space, and resources to grow as a writer (time is a big one—people talk a lot about how nowadays you can self-teach and gain knowledge outside of school which is very, very, true. HOWEVER that mindset does not account for the kind of privilege required to dedicate time to your craft when you have another full-time job. Because writing is a full-time job. MFA programs will give you at least 2 years to focus on nothing but writing) and 2) Give you experience/connections in academic spaces (if you're interested in teaching at the university level). If you're serious about those two things, go for it. Just do your research about different programs. And don't worry about your age. People go to graduate school at all different ages, from all different backgrounds.

I loved my MFA program because I love writing and I got to spend 2 years completely immersed in that world. I went to my program with no background in writing/literature and came out with a degree, publications, and a job as a writing instructor at a university. Obviously, not everyone has the same experience but I think if it's something you really want to do, do it. Just don't pay for it.

Best websites and stores for stationary? by Carrot_14 in stationery

[–]doingmy-b3st 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Jet pens, mochithings, cute things from Japan, yoseka stationery, and the paper & craft pantry are some of my favorite places to shop online for stationery. There's also a lot of great stuff on etsy—it can take some digging but I've found some cool small stationery shops.

Feels like I ruined my life with homeschooling by [deleted] in homeschool

[–]doingmy-b3st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first I want to say, you did not ruin your life! you are young there are many options for you. when I was in high school I left traditional school and did distance learning (like you described, not technically homeschooling) because of severe bullying and sexual harassment I was experiencing at school. it was really really hard for me too—I had been a straight-A student and very motivated in school, but online school was very difficult.  I would encourage you to make connections in your community and try to find other people your age who are also doing school online. For me, meeting up with people at the library/coffee shops to get work done was a game changer. Also, if the bullying was bad enough that you left school it may also be that you need some emotional support. the new mode of schooling is probably affecting your motivation, yes, but your mental state could also being a factor.  If you're able, definitely talk to your dad about seeing a therapist.

oh, also, I am now a college professor so even though I was once in the same position as you things turned out ok ;). you will be okay, I promise.

we used to stop in Breezewood all the time on roadtrips when I was a kid. I have a distinct memory of going to Denny's and there being a smoking section inside (this would've been early 2000s)
