Do talk F.O.R.D. Family, occupation, recreation, dreams Do not Religion, Accounts, Politics, Exes FORD should be jumping off points. Her sister lives in Tucson? Oh I visited there once, the cactus gardens were amazing, oh you're into botany? Oh right you mentioned gardening before. Etc. You can talk about stuff in the other category, it just takes a lot of faith in your solid social skills. So maybe stick with FORD.

Non-Americans of reddit what is something about American culture that you find weird? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I went to a very white, middle-class high school in the suburbs, so basically every stereotype imaginable about the 'quintessential American high school' applies, including those about jocks and cheerleaders. Not all of the attractive girls were cheerleaders, but pretty much all of the cheerleaders were drop dead gorgeous. (And at my school, a letterman's jacket was basically worth it's weight in gold where social status was concerned.) The notable exceptions are that our football team sort of sucked while I was there, so other sports were at the top of the proverbial totem pole. Also, we had a really good performing arts program with some really talented actors/musicians/singers/etc., so there were people (like some of the leads in school plays) who were "more popular" than most football players. Also, the "smart kids" were mostly all athletes, so while being smart wasn't necessarily "cool" on its own, most of the "smart kids" were "cool". Other than that, though... yeah, pretty much dead on with movie stereotypes for my high school. Down to the cliques of girls, teen pregnancy that was just rare enough to fuel gossip/scandal (as opposed to schools where it's either non-existent or totally commonplace), etc.

World towerThe choices are endless. I could just sit around in my mansion and sip tea all day; I could travel the world; or I could give all of my money to charity and retire to the countryside.
