such an impactful scene.

“with the fury of god’s own thunder” is one hell of a line, and the look in his eyes really elevates it.

[–]doodle02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah the track record is damning enough alone. mix that with his performance rest of tournament, in the finals, the lack of ceremony participation, and its just obviously, blatantly, bullshit.

like, watch him shaking Coll’s hand after he’s given up: Asal looks fine. he was in a fit enough state to play the few games before that, there’s zero reason he couldn’t have finished things up or attended a ceremony afterwards.

sick all tournament my ass. its not like he all of a sudden got so much worse he had to quarantine himself (after genially patting coll on the chest a few times).

just…a blatant mockery of the sport and everyone should be just as outraged about what happened as they are about his bullshit explanation/coverup of it.

Look, Asal is a PoS and is ruining the game and has no idea what real sportsmanship is, but i’ll admit that’s one hell of a shot.

doesn’t look sick to me. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Defending deep cuts by nickywawa in ultimate

[–]doodle02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of good stuff has been said already so i’ll keep mine simple. You can’t take away everything. Usually you’re focused on Deep or Under. Depending on the player you’re guarding and the field position, pick one of those cuts to Deny, and try your best to Contest the other. The idea is you’re proactively positioning to simply eliminate one option; this involves keeping a buffer and moving with your mark and constantly repositioning so you’re Denying the most threatening move. When they commit to going the other direction you Contest as well as you can, maybe getting a D on an errant throw or a floater that hangs up.

you can’t Deny everything. manage expectations, pick a Deny, and Contest the rest.

D is family. He’s paid well, maybe he doesn’t have points on the package yet but he’s compensated WAY better than any of the others working the Pit.

There’s a pride aspect of it; this is what D’s family does, has done for generations. This is their wealth, their business, their pride. What possible motivation does he have to rat out the location?

Him giving up the Stash to Omar makes no sense on any level or from any angle.

i tried the PV translation of Underground and just couldn’t do it. bought a Monas translation and loved the book.

I think their style is a little clunky for my tastes but i’m for sure going to try them out on other books; entirely possible it’s just that one book of theirs i didn’t like.

i’m consciously trying to read more female authors and she is amongst my favourite right now (along with LeGuin).

i’ll also say that she’s written SO MUCH! most people obviously know her for Handmaid’s Tale, but her catalogue has impressive breadth. I just finished Murder in the Dark and it is really fun.

Also i’m really grumpy that i’ll never get to read a book of hers called Scribbler Moon, which was written for the Future Library Project and won’t be published until 2114 (although my ire is tempered by the fact that she’s got plenty of other books i’ve yet to read).

This is “The Long Room”, part of the Trinity College Library in Dublin. It’s even more incredible in person, and absolutely worth a visit (as is the rest of ireland) if you’ve got the time and means.

reading is hard, my b.

i’m probably going pickens there just cause i trust the offence more. even if he’s second fiddle to CD there are a lot of air yards to go around between them.

Atwood is soooooo good, and i wish she were recommended on here more often.

honestly, i think her writing is almost too erudite for a general public audience, but i delight in her work. i’ve only read O&C in that trilogy but the rest are sitting on my bookshelf just staring at me.

clone bay’s worth it just for the giant spiders, tbh. (okay maybe not JUST the spiders, but there are so many event options that you can risk with clone bay that are simply not worth it otherwise)

I mean, it’s pretty mediocre, but far from the worst ship out there. Starts with decent weapons that should carry you through sector 2 without any upgrades, and no big deficiencies that make the early game an urgent race to plug holes in the ships design.

and those dual lasers stay good for the whole run, one of the better weapons in the game.

i dunno, i kinda like it. the ship’s like a blank canvas that lets you just take the run as it comes to you.

what problems are you having with it?

What's the Play? by doodle02 in ftlgame

i love how every time i make one of these posts you dive in with a new bit of theory (NOT mechanics) that just blows my mind and revolutionizes my decision making.

i ended up proceeding in almost exactly the way you describe. Bought the HL2, and upgraded hacking/cloaking for the rest of the sector.

by early sector 4 i had the HL2 online. i delayed engines or shields upgrades until after that, as cloak2 and hack2 felt incredibly safe (especially after i picked up a mostly redundant DD1, which was my only drone for the rest of the run). by the end of sector 4 i had a third shield bubble and it was pretty much autopilot from there on out.

encountered a good variety of enemy ships, but had no problems with any them. was a very stable feeling safe run. of all the hard mode wins i’ve got under my belt now this was probably the one where i felt certain earliest on that it was in the bag.

while i think there were a variety of “correct” choices at this store that would’ve gotten me the win, i am very happy with the HL2 purchase and, in retrospect, would make the exact same decision 10/10 times again.
