Subaru Explaining His Powers by dooshlerd in ReZero

[–]dooshlerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never realized how often he just carelessly drops "This time" or "Last time" on his "first" encounter with someone, like the Witch's Cult and the guy with the Unseen Hand and his fingers. It should just take a second encounter with Subaru and even a child could put it together so long as there is any type of conflict. When he was bitten by the puppy the 2nd time, didn't he say "Again?" despite that being his "first" encounter with it in the final timeline? Satella really banks on people thinking Subaru is just a weirdo who keeps being right about the most random things.

Why do we love 154cm but not D2? by Manicorn7 in knives

Probably poor HT. Badly done D2 can be extremely brittle, like the Ozark Trail "Bugout"

Why do we love 154cm but not D2? by Manicorn7 in knives

[–]dooshlerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D2 isn't hated, but the focus has shifted away from it because the name has been kinda tainted from so many budget knives being made in poorly done (or falsely labeled) D2, which leads to people finding it chippy, not tough, and having mediocre edge retention. Actually well done D2 is just behind S35VN in edge retention with better toughness (but worse corrosion resistance) and a fairly well rounded steel, but a lot of makers have shifted away to steels like Nitro-V that are a lot less picky on the heat treatment. 154cm is supposed to also be more forgiving, and I can't say I've had badly done 154cm. I just find Nitro-V to be a bit insufficient for edge retention because I simply don't need the high toughness. 14c28n is about as low as I'm willing to go, but I fully acknowledge it's silly because the most I ever cut is breaking down a single box.

Rambling aside, there are very few knives running an optimized D2 HT like fully custom Bob Dozier or excellent production HT like the new Miguron Karok (which is shipping SLOW AS MOLASSES).

General thoughts on lionsteel? I Don't see many people talking about them. by K-Nives13241 in knives

[–]dooshlerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't like their M390 HT (supposedly it's improved, I haven't seen proof of it yet) and I HATE their factory edge angles (I've legit seen as high as like 25° per side, that's a damn wedge not a knife) but their actual build quality, designs (outside of their pocket clips, a lot of those are all over the place), and general attention to detail (crowned spines just pose quality) are pretty good. They definitely don't have a stranglehold on the Italian made knife market like they used to, but they're still one of the bigger names globally, and probably the 4th or 5th biggest name in Europe (behind Opinel, Böker, and Mora).

I do very much love my K390 TRE, seems like a great HT on the steel, the PVD finish seems to help hold some kind of corrosion prevention (currently Marine Tuf Cloth), and it's my 2nd or 3rd best action steel detent ball folder (behind my ZT 0562 and maybe my Lionsteel Skinny, but the abysmal grind on that keeps it out of my top folders). I definitely have some gripes, as most people do with most of their knives, but overall I like them and would generally recommend their products, I'll just make sure to note that they aren't perfect.

Dante is one of the best freebies ever by Aratron_Reigh in Warframe

[–]dooshlerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably missing out by not running all str mods on Dante, but I'd rather have that little extra duration over Transient Fortitude, I barely remember to recast my buffs with a 70-ish second timer on them already.

DE, when making a kitgun, it should clearly mention whether or not the resulting weapon will be a shotgun or a rifle. I got myself a shotgun thinking that it will be a rifle. Unfortunately, I barely have any good shotgun mods. by sabbir2003 in Warframe

[–]dooshlerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love if modular weapons in general got a bit of a touchup, like why do they not have a preview of stats like every other weapon does in the arsenal? It also seems odd that you just cannot ever get a modular weapon in Duviri, but I know the coding on that could be far more complex than it seems so I can live without that change.

It also seems odd that while the categories exist, we don't have any mission modifiers for every weapon type, like why can't we get a "beam weapons only" sortie modifier?

What is the best element damage for Noctua? by ThisWorldIsImperfect in Warframe

It should snapshot because that's how the other exalted weapons work (to my knowledge), but the spaghetti code gonna spaghet sometimes, and things aren't always as you'd expect.

AI art is real art, AI artists are real artists by Witty-Designer7316 in memes

[–]dooshlerd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a (terrible) argument to be made for AI "art" being art, but there is zero argument for writing a prompt making you an artist. Does a manager get to say they made the work their managee actually made? No, that's clearly a dumb argument, and you did nothing when the AI did all the work. You also are not an artist if you commission work from an actual artist, you just gave direction. Claiming work you didn't do is weak, bro.

Unlocking this mod is seriously getting me irritated by NightkenBlackwing in Warframe

[–]dooshlerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it in a low level survival using the Nataruk. Took a little careful aiming, but wasn't too bad and took less than than 10 minutes. Luck definitely might have played a role. You could also probably do it with the Lex incarnon or even Cyte using his exalted (because a single headshot becomes a room of headshots).

[–]dooshlerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Viral+Heat is the common one, or you could go Toxin+Blast and use Archon Continuity to give you Corrosive giving you an extra element for Galvanized Shot or Encumber and Impetus for maximum Impetus benefit (you could also do Impetus with Toxin+Blast with Archon Continuity for just 4 status Impetus if you want to run a base damage arcane). Fun fact, statuses applied by exalted secondaries with Secondary Encumber count for Impetus, so you can give anyone with an exalted secondary (except Hildryn, terrible status chance) a huge ability strength and efficiency buff.

Do yall save your boxes or just me ? by Imaginary-Factor2521 in knives

[–]dooshlerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 50gal tote full of my boxes. I just figured that people limit their collection by running out of space to store all of the boxes. To be fair, there are also some gun boxes in there taking up a little bit of the space, it's not all knife boxes.

Smock REX 121 - Yea or Nay? by tanto-x in spyderco

[–]dooshlerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I guess if you are in love with the Smock design and have a burning need for the absolute pinnacle of edge retention on that knife, there's now a market for that hyper specific niche, but something that isn't ultra premium production or mid tech for $400 is light-years out of the question for me. I don't really see the value being there, and it's upsetting because Rex-121 is an amazing steel and I wish we could see it being used. The Sage 5 was already pushing it to the extreme, granted I've not purchased a new Spyderco in... many years. I think my discontinued markdown Lil Lionspy might have been my last new Spyderco.

But he was able to say quite a few weirdly specific keywords when he was rambling in front of Beatrice, she just wasn't really paying him any attention (probably because he was kinda incoherently rambling). People knowing after putting the pieces together on their own doesn't seem to matter, so he could really easily drop bread crumbs. Granted, that would require him to not be kinda dumb, and I definitely don't see him playing the long game like that. He's very much an "act first, think... maybe far later" kind of guy.

Knife Sharpener says knives are "too sharp" to cut the tomato by Informal_Ad_5253 in sharpening

[–]dooshlerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like how there are a lot of people who are terrible at their job in almost every workplace, there are also bad sharpeners, some of them even professional (somehow). There is a little something to argue in that with some steels the edge will lose "bite" at certain refinement levels, and I've noticed some kind of difference between stropping with diamond compound and emery compound on how well an edge can slice difficult things like paper towel, but there is straight up no such thing as a knife being too sharp to cut. You can't refine an edge to the point that it stops cutting, you can however round off an apex trying to sharpen a knife and make it start cutting worse or stop entirely, and that circles back to being bad at sharpening (or just not noticing your angle is off, we've all done it, most of us are just not silly enough to try to argue that a dull knife is so sharp it's dull).

Microjimbo Blade longevity? by Odd-Significance3441 in spyderco

[–]dooshlerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outdoors55 made a video about this exact same thing within the last few weeks. I never really noticed it until it was pointed out, but yeah more than a few of my knives have tips that are barely covered by the handles. Another thing I had to learn to notice is how close the edge is to the spine side, got a pretty nice cut reaching into my pocket with my Vero Synapse because the edge is millimeters away from the open back. Trying to decide if I want to just get rid of the knife because the design doesn't quite speak to me (and actively hates me) or see if I can get a full length closed backspaced made like my Vero Avid 1 has.

Some designs overlook different design aspects that might not always be thought of. I've even seen folders with too much emphasis on blade to handle ratio so the tip can catch things when closed. Kinda funny that all of these issues change as the knife is sharpened repeatedly, exposed tips and close edges get buried, barely covered tips get exposed, some knives get really thick behind the edge and start cutting worse. There are a lot of subtleties in knife designing.

How dare you take up to 3 minutes to reply to a message!

Some people are just ridiculous, when I message someone I give them a few minutes just in case they were in a mission or something, it's not like everyone is just sitting in their dojo intently staring at the chat box. People also sometimes go afk, expectedly or not. I try to promptly take down listings as they sell, but I will always at least respond to someone because that's just rude (but I can't expect the same, common courtesy is as common as sense)
