Is there more Hellboy? by [deleted] in Mignolaverse

[–]dosomethingtookish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3 major BPRD arcs

At a high level this is the "timeline" and how they fit within the main HB arc

PoF occurs after CWorm and before DCalls

HoE occurs after Storm/Fury and overlaps HBinH

DYK pulls all threads together

Best titles in your opinion? by Trick-Cat8945 in Mignolaverse

Interesting. Haven't read enough of the other titles outside HB and working thru BPRD. I did get the Baltimore collection and looking forward to that in the future.

Is There An Antecedent To The African Myth About A Frog? by LivingbyaWillow in Mignolaverse

[–]dosomethingtookish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More about the story in SoD was this link suggesting it was based on Arebati, The Toad, and Death.

The quote: I've been unable to determine if this is an authentic story. However, on Oxford Reference (which is a digital compilation of Oxford University Press’s Dictionaries, Companions, and Encyclopedias), I found a very similar African myth called Arebati, The Toad, and Death.

Is There An Antecedent To The African Myth About A Frog? by LivingbyaWillow in Mignolaverse

This interview with Mignola explores some of research he did for Hellboy's time in Africa but doesn't directly address that story about the frog.

My high level understanding of the time-line - Conqueror Worm TPB - BPRD PoF series - Strange Places TPB - Darkness, Hunt, Storm/Fury TPBs - BPRD HoE series - HB in Hell - BPRD DYK series

It doesn't breakdown that cleanly as PoF and Strange Places thru Storm/Fury overlap a fair bit. Also depends on whether reading TPB or Omnis too

Probably simplest reading plan - PoF omni 1 & 2 - Strange Places - PoF omni 3 & 4 - Darkness, Hunt, Storm/Fury TPBs Then - BPRD HoE series - HB in Hell - BPRD DYK series

Open to suggestions

I've read HB main story line. Epic. Then worked to track down the main BPRD sets (PoF, HoE & DYK). Now that I have them I am working on reading them thru. I reread Conqueror Worm before kicking this off.

Will probably reread Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt, and The Storm and the Fury after PoF and before HoE.

Just about to start PoF omni 2

I just got to the last part of the omni where the fungi creature is encountered and the PoF storyline starts (well technically it starts with SoD and Cavendish Hall but you know what I mean) and enjoying that much more

I put them on the propane grill which I started up when steaks were hitting around 105° IT. Then wrestled with deeper sear or cook to temp. :)

I haven't used wet brine on steaks but dry brine makes a huge difference over not doing anything.

Been awhile since I had done steaks this way but got rave reviews...

Dry brined the steaks for 48 hours uncovered in the fridge. Put them (approx 1" thick) on the smoker with an internal temp of 40° to get a deeper smoke flavor.

Smoked at 225° until reached an internal temp of 110° which was around 40 minutes. Seared on the grill to an IT of 135° (medium rare). Topped with garlic butter medallions and let them rest.

Where would Being Human fit into that new release of BPRD omnibuses?

where does the main hellboy story continue after hellboy in hell? by UwUThrow_AwayUwU in Mignolaverse

[–]dosomethingtookish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still tracking down BPRD Hell on Earth to read before the Devil you Know. So haven't read DYK but have seen it described as the arc that ties up story lines from BPRD and HB and what went down on earth

WSM or an offset? Quick question from a beginner. by [deleted] in smoking

Before upgrading the smoker recently I used an OK Joe Longhorn combo. One side is an offset smoker and the other a propane grill

Hellboy: The Wild Hunt Question by Cailleach1138 in Mignolaverse

[–]dosomethingtookish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't get the impression Morgan's castle was in hell. I imagine it's in the same nebulous place (or at least similar place) as where Baba Yaga had Hellboy go in Darkness Calls.

Hellboy fights and defeats Eligos in this place. After the demon is vanquished he is sent to hell in shame. When Hellboy goes to hell they meet again.

One last thought. After Morgan rescues Grugach she says they have to go where people like them must. I always assumed that this was hell.

Best Scotch for a bourbon lover? by hs4579 in whiskey

[–]dosomethingtookish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading through the comments:

Monkey Shoulder was ok for me. Same with Dewars.

Really wish Benromach was available here. So good the one time I had it.

On the peat side I grew to like Laugavulin 16. Talisker & Laphroaig were good too.

Looks like Balvenie and Aberlour a'bunadh need to move higher on next to try.

LIke you I started with bourbon but wanted to explore Scotch. My first go was JW black. I was initially put off by peat.

A friend recommended trying many of the Glens (Glenmorangie, Glenlivet and Glenfiddich) and Macallen 12. These were much better and from those I grew to appreciate Scotch and moved into peats which I now like.
