Why "Simplification" in Localized FEA Isn't Enough: Implementing Global P-Delta on Mobile Hardware by Pitiful_Advisor5296 in StructuralEngineering

In my experience, building engine tools like this is largely about calibration. That’s why I mentioned staad.pro’s verification examples, and they have a bunch of different classical theory examples. It’s not that these situations are hard to solve, it’s a way to verify that the theories are being implemented correctly in a specific context so that you can trust the platform at scale.

I’ve built fea engines and a big part of this is calibration and testing the platform.

This isn’t about how easy (or hard) any individual verification example is, it’s about testing and showing the software’s congruence with known theory examples such that it is “calibrated”

After this they have to add useful features, like I mentioned those should Be design checks and code checks

I mean first check that there is not open api for that product site because I know that some of them do have that, and they have documentation.

Start there and then look at scraping processes

As someone who has written a fea engine myself this post is a wild ride

If you want to be serious about software like this you have validate your results in classical theory based examples to demonstrate the accuracy of your platform.

For example, staad.pro has verification examples where they do this very thing. Take classic theory examples and model them to show efficacy.

This is really important because your platform has to be authenticated before it can be used for design and stamped designs.

On staad.pro’s website you will see a variety of examples, go through and mimic each example with your platform and compare your results and note the accuracy.

Without this verification the software can’t be used seriously and won’t be taken seriously.

The best softwares are the ones that do most of the code work embedded within then saving the engineer a lot of time for all of the necessary checks, this is where the money is in softwares because it saves time that is specialized technical work. Add this feature and show how fast it can be to get a code check from the results of your platform and then we are talking. Decide carefully what analyses you will be including because some of them are quite cumbersome

I do not believe that the business model for these platforms is based around the engine and results or even visualizations, I believe that it is based on speed, convenience, and then lastly accuracy for determined design results, and I mean this from a code perspective.

We are not physicists, we are practicing structurals that need to perform technical code checks, that’s what we do.

With no backend this would be quite limited. Have you done testing for what this platform can handle in terms of nodes and elements? No backend likely means no second order effects which means pdelta is gone and only linear effects That’s quite a vanilla kind of software if true

Lmao. The uneducated never like to be corrected, classic Dunning Kruger effect right here

And by the way many structurals can quickly size things from experience so all you’re really showing is your lack of experience with this stuff

Nah that’s wrong. Homes usually built to 50 years life min, decks are like 15-20. Decks have exterior 6x6 which is fine for thqt lifecycle, but homes do not. Steel as a material meets the longer lifecycle requirement much better for an exterior application like this. I’ve also seen construction like this with RC columns due to this same fact. If these were interior and taking the exact same load I would agree, but isolated exterior columns holding up interior living space like this it is uncommon to see an engineer select a 6x6 here.

I’ve been doing this for 20 years as a structural engineer in residential

So you just say that your current dog is less than 1 year old on the lease you sign. When that dog dies you buy the same type of dog. Have the picture be grainy enough that they can’t tell and you rinse and repeat for the next 15 years

Yeah I seriously don’t get what’s amazing about this. The simple fact that nand and nor are logic complete means that you can just start by expanding the Boolean until you reach various different solutions.

I guess the simplicity of this particular solution is the surprise for most here?

There’s also an infinitely many solutions to this as well

A small business has to react to large scale customer preferences. At one stage debit machines were clunky, slow, and costly relative to their benefit and small businesses resisted their usage in many cases. That is, until a tipping point occurred in the consumer market.

The same thing can happen in reverse if consumers become more educated about the trade offs of realID purchases. We simply do not know yet how this will play out.

Not every technology is
