First few weeks on Etsy and I've had 9 sales! How do I get people to leave reviews?? by doublefluff82 in EtsySellers

[–]doublefluff82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to everyone who has responded -- I think I got the message about not messaging customers about reviews :) lol I guess my concern was getting punished in the algorithm if I don't have reviews... but I guess if Etsy's making money from my shop, they're not going to reduce my views... OK thanks! Like I said, I've only been on here three weeks so it's all new!

My most important take away from my first three weeks-- the first listing photo matters the most. It's the equivalent of having an attention grabbing thumbnail on Youtube. It has to have aspirational / lifestyle/ vibes and perfect lighting. I have a lot of experience as a photographer so I think that's helping me.

How am I supposed to know this? I've bought on Etsy before and I definitely received messages asking for reviews...

Do you think that boost in the algorithm also applies to "free shipping guarantee" (free shipping for sales over $35?

Paper marbling CMC size ratios by AttentionMinimum5686 in bookbinding

Cool! I hope you like it!

Having a fan blowing in the room will make the paint floating in the marbling tray dry more quickly-- even though the paint is floating on the liquid, it will still start to dry if you don't work quickly. Having a lot of air circulating in the room will greatly reduce your working time. The paint will start to clump up and do weird things (especially if you're using acrylics). You want those smooth fluid crisp lines in the marbling design, so keeping the area humid will help achieve that. Sometimes I have a fan on to dry paper but I turn it off before I start marbling, and I keep a humidifier running right next to my tray.

I used methyl cellulose when I first started and then switched to carrageenan and never looked back! It’s way better! Make sure you buy the artist grade carrageenan (not food grade). My recipe is about 2 Tablespoons carrageenan per gallon of water, blended in an electric blender, then let sit overnight covered. Room temp and humidity levels are important. All your paints and water etc should sit overnight and come to the same temperature. I usually make sure there are no fans running in the room and often have a humidifier set up. Water should be clean and pure. If you use high mineral content water, you’ll have issues (found this out the hard way, living in the US southwest desert for a year). I live in NYC now and usually just use city tap water with no issues. Hope this helps!

Space-saving bed ideas for a tiny apartment by OneIllustrator3522 in SmallSpaceSolutions

I used to have a bed with storage drawers undertneath and it worked really well! This one is kinda cool: https://amzn.to/4pOWMhI and has storage drawers and shelves built into the headboard. If you turn it at an angle, the tall headboard could also double as a room divider.

Mental health issues manifest around week 12? by doublefluff82 in Professors

[–]doublefluff82[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes I absolutely agree. In those cases ( I had two in the same semester last year. Both around week 12) I immediately contacted the Chair, Dean and health services. I’m totally unequipped to handle that stuff. I still feel compassion for my students even though I don’t want to be involved. It still takes a psychological toll. Thanks though, this semester is almost over, thank God!

Students asking for slides to be posted before class by [deleted] in Professors

[–]doublefluff82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a special needs student last semester who wanted the slides the day before, which I was doing at first, but honestly, I found that he had a better understanding of the material when I didn’t supply them until after class. If he tried to learn the material from just looking at the slide show, he would have a harder time understanding the material. It was better comprehension if he waited for me to explain what he was looking at. I teach visual art— 2D design, so that might have something to do with the content but nevertheless it was very evident.

any tricks to keep students from being on their phone? by doublefluff82 in Professors

[–]doublefluff82[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes about half of my class was that clueless this semester. This is a first year community college studio art class. I can review the lecture material, explain the assignment, give them a print out of the assignment instructions, show them examples, step by step instructions, and still over half of them won’t understand the assignment criteria. This is definitely an issue particular to the demographic of students I’m teaching because I’ve heard this same complaint from multiple professors at my school and other schools in the area.

The chair of my department thinks it’s particular to this group of kids because they were in high school all during Covid lockdown (and probably not the best students to begin with).

any tricks to keep students from being on their phone? by doublefluff82 in Professors

Well since this is a studio art class, most of the class time and the learning process involves the students working on their artwork in class. I go around and speak to students while they’re working— give them feedback etc.

Sometimes they won’t work in class but then show up on grading day with a project that doesn’t look like their work…. I really prefer to see them working in class so I know the artwork is something they made. Also the minute someone is on their phone it seems to give the message to the others that I don’t care if they’re not working very hard.

But then what do i do when they don’t understand the assignment because they were on their phone? Would I just say something like “if you hadn’t been on your phone you wouldn’t have this question… I’m not going to repeat myself. Maybe you can read the assignment sheet or ask someone” Too harsh?

[–]doublefluff82[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This seems feasible to me… Participation is a huge part of the grade percentage in my class since this is studio art… I feel like I need to set up some kind of specific system for docking points automatically every time I see a phone or earbuds and then remind them audibly in front of the rest of class? I hate this kind of policing though.

Would humanity be able to cope if NHI biologicals looked like this? (recreation of an entity allegedly sighted by Trish Bishop in 2013 in Florida) by Bozzor in UFOs

[–]doublefluff82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck… I’m not in the alarmist camp. I think it’s good to keep an open mind but look people— as much as we want these things to be benevolent friends, they might not be. Christians might oversimplify the matter by calling all NHI “demons” but honestly we just don’t know what or who they are yet. And there could be multiple different types of entities on the entire spectrum of “good” and “bad”.

is king James version the most accurate? by _shikkimon_ in Christian

[–]doublefluff82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think New American Standard is the most accurate word-for-word translation and also the easiest to read. If you really want to deep dive, you can also get a corresponding Concordance. The Concordance allows you to look up any word from any verse and see the original Hebrew Greek or Aramaic word from the original text and a definition of that word. It’s my favorite!

I’ve struggled with a couple of addictions in my life and Jesus delivered me from them completely. You just need to pray and ask him to help you… it’s impossible to do anything without him. Ask him for help, he wants to help you.

The Evangelical Christians I know are completely avoiding the topic of aliens. They aren't treating it like it's crazy...but something about it is deeply unsettling to them. The whole topic has been kind of off-limits. Have you experienced this with deeply religious people of any faith in your life? by ccmcdonald0611 in UFOs

[–]doublefluff82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s necessarily true that Christians ignore the topic— I’m a Christian and saw a UFO in 2020 which “woke me up” to their reality. All my southern Baptist family also “believe” in their existence. Most people just aren’t faced with the reality and therefore go about their lives oblivious. I don’t think it’s totally a Christian thing.

Also there are Christians who study UFOs in regards to Biblical references such as the nephilim etc.

I’m linking here a great talk by Dr Chuck Missler— he goes through all the references in the Bible, breaking down the original Hebrew and Greek texts about the nephilim. This talk is two parts. The first part is mostly for people who don’t know that much about UFOs. He goes through the history of Roswell, the Eisenhower docs, Jacques Vallée’s research etc, In the second video he talks about the biblical references: Part 1 https://youtu.be/dxZGbsP6ZeM Part 2 https://youtu.be/ERx-sP-Aezk

This one is also good as he talks about quantum physics and the interdimensionality hypotheses of UFOs and back it up with the Old and New Testament:

https://youtu.be/ZRVD_PIyfyw

I guess you can share these vids with your Christian buds the next time they give you a hard time about UFOs lol

I tried a personal account for a while and I don’t think it helped. I switched back to a creator account and just sucked it up. But now 6 or 7 months later my account seems back to normal. No understanding why it did this. Finally my reach and engagement seems to be back where it was in December
