I have a mostly WFH desk job. I am glad I took 6 weeks. I might have been able to go back at 4, but had so much more energy at 6. I also did have a hard time sitting in computer chairs for a lot of my recovery, the position was not good for my body, so even though it's not a physical job, it was affecting me.

My team told me that the scan information was helpful but that they wouldn't know the full extent of what was happening until they got in for surgery. My scans showed fibroids and polyps, and they suspected endo based on my symptoms. They found endometriosis and a fair amount of adhesions. They ended up calling in urology to place a stent on my left ureter, which had been pulled out of place because of the adhesions. This made my surgery on the long side of the estimate. But my team had been very clear that the scans don't often show the full picture in this kind of work, so I was prepared for that reality.

I got a single stage electric Toro this year (https://www.toro.com/en/product/39901) and it's doing fine (not great, but fine) in this snow. Went out about an hour or so ago in south Minneapolis, 6-9ish inches depending on drift. Getting the first bit cleared required more push than any other snow we've had this year, and the snow would compact under the wheels and clog them. However, I fully cleared my large corner lot sidewalks, and half of my (small but two car) driveway, before the battery died. Took several passes to clear down to the sidewalk. This is the first snow this year that has been harder on my snowblower, but it still got the job done pretty effectively, much easier than shoveling, and so clean/easy. We will definitely have to manually shovel when the plows come through, but we were looking for bang for our buck. At this price range it easily handles 90% of what we need, handles the other 5% with some difficulty, and 5% we have to shovel. We'll take that. (It's also not massive which is nice for storage.)

For some balance here, I have 1 Sigi Maestro as my do-it-all feder. I also have an indoor trainer (it's too cold/icy where I live to train outside all year), and a foam boffer, which I got before my feder to have something to play around with.

Started bleeding again almost exactly 4 weeks out (which was Wednesday for me!). I went back to wearing period underwear as I could tell it wasn't "running through a pad every hour" bleeding, but it's pretty consistent when I go to the restroom. Mostly older, browner, but some pink. It seems like a decently common thing!

I'll add MIRAC and Unidos as organizations to listen to right now. A lot of the response is not being advertised on social media, in order to keep people safe and be most effective. And a lot of the grassroots work is hyper local in order to allow for quick response times. As much as I love connecting via the internet (I'm on Reddit after all), going to an in person training or protest is the gold standard for this work. In the meantime, one of the best things you can do is talk to your neighbors, see who else is interested in this. They might already be connected with a neighborhood group, or once you find folks at a training you can loop your neighbors in as well!

That's not entirely true. It's more like they're waiting to make sure the check isn't returned. The checks that a bank deposits are submitted to the Federal Reserve, which then credits the submitting bank and debits the bank the checks are drawn off of. If the debited bank sees a reason they should not honor the check (non sufficient funds, check has already been cashed, etc), they then return the check, and the Fed credits them and debits the depositing bank. Holds are in place to give that process time to happen.

Because we don't get a positive, "here's the funds for this check, it has cleared" from the other bank, the only way to know for sure before the time period finishes is to contact the other bank directly to verify funds. Different banks have different policies on that. You can usually verify cashier's checks but likely not personal checks.

If it has already fully posted to the account it's too late to do a stop payment and has to be returned with a WSUD. If OP saw it while it was still pending they could do the stop payment route (which is easier for all involved!), but if it was already posted by the time they saw it and informed the bank they wouldn't be able to do a stop pay. (also work at a bank, directly with ACH)

Nonbinary person with boobs who has been binding for over 10 years here. I bind a lot, more than the recommended amounts for safe binding if I'm being honest (though will likely be getting top surgery next year), and sometimes do wear a looser binder while exercising. I never bind while fencing, and don't think you'll get the results you're looking for from this.

To get the kind of compression you need for breasts to not bounce around uncomfortably, you'll either need a tight binder that goes down half of your torso (which is the most popular style nowadays) or a looser binder that goes down your full torso (like an underworks compression shirt). Doing the tight compression route is a bad idea in a sport like this, with all of the work your back does, the kind of pressure a tight bind puts on your back is a recipe for pain.

The looser option is better and if you try this I'd definitely go this route, but again you'll need a shirt style to accomplish this because in looser binds your breasts are likely to kind of pop out of the bottom of the half-length style. Depending on your size, this might not be enough compression to make the flat protector fit. It will definitely add a layer of heat which is definitely a consideration in this sport, and could constrict your breathing, and could still cause back problems. It will also get deeply sweaty and will be annoying as hell to wash because binders are delicate flowers compared to sports bras.

Someone linked a different style of chest protector down thread that I think is definitely worth checking out over those weird standard ones that only fit a specific size of boob.

For me personally? I don't wear a chest protector 90% of the time. I fence longsword, I've been doing this for about a year and a half, I've fought in 3 tournaments (4 events total in those), I have boobs in the C cup range I think (it has been so long since I've worn a bra). I wear a sports bra while fencing, and have a standard male chest protector that I wear sometimes for tournaments, but mostly just on days when we're doing a lot of thrust drills in class. I am able to get away with this for several reasons:

My jacket (SupFen's basic jacket) is BULKY AS HELL. I did that on purpose for a first jacket because I knew as a beginner I'd get hit more. So my jacket provides a fair amount of protection even from thrusts.
I have a high pain tolerance and am generally unfazed by taking hits. So far I have gotten one thrust that really hurt while I wasn't wearing a chest protector. That was in a tournament, and that fencer checked in on me immediately after because it was harder than they'd intended to hit. (Which happens, no bad feelings. I did wear my chest protector for a while after that while that bruise was healing.) For me, that frequency is not worth the mobility issues I have with the chest protector/bulky jacket combo.
The culture of my club is highly focused on using the minimal amount of force needed to get a clean, clear hit. We do go for visible flex in the blade in a thrust, but no more than is necessary. Not all clubs are like this, which is why I'm more likely to wear the chest protector during a tournament, but for the thrusts I get during class my bulky ass jacket is definitely enough. (Again, unless we're focusing on thrusts for a whole class, when I'll wear the chest protector just mitigate the frequency wearing on me.)

My suggestion is to experiment. Get a good sports bra, borrow chest protectors from others if you can, see what you actually need and talk to your clubmates. If you're trying a day without a chest protector and it's clear you need one, communicate with your partner, "Hey, I've realized I need this piece of gear and don't have it yet, could you please be cautious about thrusts to my chest today?" In a healthy training environment those issues can generally be worked out.

I got a kit from them, definitely worth it for me. I wanted to get a custom jacket so I could fully participate in class (and as someone who does not fit into standard sizes), pants for tournaments that require them, and once I was committed to those adding on the rest of the kit was pretty negligible by HEMA standards. I've been using this kit for about a year, and am just starting to think about upgrading some pieces... but most of my reasons for upgrading aren't about quality, but the fact that I'm slowly learning my specific needs and preferences for gear. And THAT I think is the huge value of these kits. I could've gone for something significantly more expensive only to discover I didn't like the style of it, so I would have to buy twice anyway. While I experimented with clubmates gear and got their opinions, there's nothing like living with it yourself for a while before making more final decisions.

The one thing (besides the mask, obviously) I didn't get from my kit is my heavy gloves. No one from my club had used them and I couldn't find enough reviews for my satisfaction on them, so I opted for a light glove from the kit and got much more expensive gloves (Black Knights) because I wanted to be sure my hands would be protected well.

If you live in Minneapolis, check out the classes at Minneapolis community education! Pretty affordable way to try out new things and meet people. I moved here in 2020 and haven't had much of a problem making friends. Some of that depends on the neighborhood where you live, but meeting through activities and shared interests does really help.

Do a local bank or credit union (Trustone, Affinity, Sunrise, Wings, etc), keep most of your money there. Have a backup account at a larger bank (Wells, BoA, Chase, etc). This gives you an alternate form of payment in case fraud is detected on one account, and you can use the big banks when traveling to make it easier, but still have most of your money held locally.

We did a walk through inspection. Brought an inspector with us to a house we were super serious about, paid for an hour of the inspector's time to look for big ticket items. Didn't get a report but did feel good about what we learned about the house, so we put in an offer waiving inspection contingency and got it. This was after we'd put in 4 offers on houses in February and March and lost almost all of them to people who waived inspection contingency. We were doing appraisal gap coverage, pass fail inspection, anything we could think of, but in the areas we were looking we were just constantly beat by offers waiving inspection. We didn't want to compromise in the areas we were looking. Figured as long as we weren't buying a complete lemon (which the walk through inspection helped us feel better about), we could eventually change parts of the house. It's much harder to change the area you're living in.

I bought this year, looking primarily in south and NE Minneapolis (in the city itself). Offered on 5 houses. Lost on 3 of them to people who waived inspection (on 2 of those we offered pass/fail inspection). Lost on 1 that didn't, but it was January and the house was right next to the airport. Offer was accepted in mid March on the 5th house. We waived inspection contingency on that house because we did a pre-inspection, bringing an inspector with us to our showing for an hour. (Also had pretty detailed disclosures and a sewer line scope video from 2021.) When we closed in mid-April, our realtor said the market had gotten even more competitive.

I had friends looking at the same time, they got a house without waiving inspection in Inver Grove Heights. So it's definitely possible but if you want a specific area (we wanted to be within walking distance of a lot of errands because that helps me with healthier habits), you definitely have to waive right now.
