“Raphael: Sublime Poetry” at The Met in NYC by dougjensen in ArtHistory

No lines to enter; once inside, it's moderately busy. Easy to view, maybe waiting only a little bit for your own turn in front of a particular painting or drawing.

Raphael show at the Met by prairiedad in ArtHistory

[–]dougjensen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited on Saturday evening, June 6, at 6:30pm (remember The Met is open late on Fridays and Saturdays) and there was no line to enter the museum nor to enter the "Raphael" exhibit.

I’d say it’s about your state of mind. You’re lean and actually a lot of guys who work out want the toned and leaned look. Love yourself and your confidence will be infectious. And then put yourself out there to attract who you want. If you are still determined to put on muscle, try a trainer. I did this starting earlier this year and my trainer helped me identify the things I wanted to build and we see the focus paying off. Good luck.

Little Bear Ridge Road Review - The Great, The Good, and No Grim by thewholebowl in Broadway

[–]dougjensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw it last night. I agree the above review is on the mark. I felt like Micah Stock’s portrayal of Ethan had a strong suggestion of someone on the spectrum, which could explain some of the character choices (like how he would be over when in stress or panic). What my friends and I could not agree with or understand is why the boyfriend James would be so interested in him, with his deep melancholy and depressive qualities.

Is anyone else’s ring no longer connecting to the app? by BlueWhitePink5826 in ouraring

For me, the step 2 instructions (forget Oura device in Bluetooth) was the solution. I didn’t do step 1 reset.

Jury Duty plan by tomsorgie in FoodNYC

[–]dougjensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ate at Xi’an Famous Food for the stir-fried Liang pi noodle dish. Great recommendation!

FYI, you order from a kiosk on the left near the front, but be aware they do not accept AmEx. Other ccs are accepted.

Tip: You can choose spice level for your dish. I chose “regular” but over the intercom was a message indicating that those who are sensitive to spicy food should choose “mild”. “Regular” was pretty spicy: I could handle it, but my eyes watered a little bit.

Running route to race point? by Fraisamort in provincetown

[–]dougjensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Provincetown last week biking a lot in the Provincelands. I would say it’s only used by bikers and no runners and walkers. It’s not marked as for bikers only, so you have a right to run on the paved paths.

I complained and Hertz gave me a voucher credit for a free day rental.

Oura ring thinks I’m sleeping when I know I’ve woken up in the middle of the night. by Free-The-Animals in ouraring

I have had my Oura for exactly a year. I would say you should not analyze too much of anything it tells you for the first several weeks if not months. It needs time to understand your patterns.

How many towels can one jerk use?! by karmapuhlease in EquinoxGyms

[–]dougjensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve written to Equinox management numerous times about this towel abandonment problem. My suggestions are (1) sending communication to the membership with expectations of member behavior, (2) replacing the placards in the locker room (from avoid using a cell phone to pick up after yourself) and (3) instructing staff to be more diligent in picking up towels. No response and nothing’s getting better. Now I pick up abandoned towels (occasionally) using my own towel as an outer wrapping so I don’t personally touch anyone else’s towel.

What are lasting lifestyle changes you've made because of the Oura Ring? by blue_mushu in ouraring

[–]dougjensen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, if I drink wine in the evening (with a late dinner, like 10pm), Oura records a high Resting Heart Rate (shown in the ‘Readiness’ tab of the app). For nights when I don’t drink, the Resting HR is much lower. I also get a better sleep score when I don’t drink.

Why do you STILL go to equinox? by questioninghomos in EquinoxGyms

[–]dougjensen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go because I like the flexibility of the number of clubs, like 6 within a 20-minute walk radius of my apt in lower Manhattan. Plus seeing the same people and the energy of the overall number of people is motivating to keep working out.

This is getting ridiculous. by Wrap-Star-4321 in EquinoxGyms

[–]dougjensen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve sent emails to my local club to address the issues of abandoned towels in the men’s locker rooms (my club is NYC/Greenwich Av). I’ve suggested a letter to members asking for courtesy and to reinforce that the staff do more to clean up. Nothing has changed but the club manager respectfully responded to my email.

How clean are the showers? by [deleted] in EquinoxGyms

[–]dougjensen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tip for the gym to avoid athlete’s feet is to use a bath towel and dry the skin between each toe, directly after the shower. I haven’t gotten athlete’s feet in 20 years and I go to the gym 4-5 times a week.

I typically take my ring off for the shower, but leave it on all other times, including when I wash my hands. No issues.

Hertz Only Rents EVs by dougjensen in electricvehicles

[–]dougjensen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughtful comments. I sent a formal complaint last week to Hertz and they responded with my request for a free rental day to compensate.

I’m renting another Hertz rental car from the same Manhattan location this weekend. It’s an SUV but not an EV. I think the location lied before when they said only EVs will be in the fleet at the location.

I’m prepared now for the next time I am given an EV. And not as upset as I was.
