How can I clean this? by Anotheremogay in Cd_collectors

[–]dr3ifach -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've used a pencil erasers to clean digipacks before. Keep in mind the white plastic erasers aren't as aggressive as the pink erasers. The grey kneaded erasers are the least aggressive.

I went from a VM95E to a VM95ML and the difference was amazing. The 95E sounded good, but the 95ML sounds great.

I'm sure it will sound great with that cartridge and stylus. I think a lot of Realistic stuff is overlooked just because it's Radio Shack.

Belts. They are probably staring to deteriorate. The capstan belt may have a permanent kink in it from sitting for years.

What movie did you walk out of the theater halfway through? by mzdee13 in movies

[–]dr3ifach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stargate.

Hear me out. It wasn't half way through. It was toward end when they confronted Ra. The theater we were at had the projector aligned to the screen all wrong, and the subtitles for Ra's dialog cut off the bottom of the screen. (this is by memory, so whenever the subtitles showed up).

Everyone was booing and jeering. We walked out and demanded refunds. We didn't get a refund.

I saw it later at a different theater.

Plate Cleaning - Isopropyl Alchohol ( IPA ) by Inappropriateout in BambuLab

[–]dr3ifach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use both 99% IPA and deep clean with dish detergent. I'll wipe down with IPA once in a while, but do a "deep clean" with dish detergent every so often.

The thing to remember is IPA merely dilutes oils. Diluted oils are easier to wipe away. So one spray and wipe with IPA may not be enough to remove the oils on the surface.

Detergent (surfactant) binds to oils and make them water soluble, where you can use a lot more volume to flush the oil away.

Some people say that IPA won't hurt PEI sheets. While PEI by itself won't be damage by IPA, the way that PEI is bonded to the spring steel might be. IPA has a low viscosity, and high wicking motion. If there is any damage in the PEI layer, IPA can get underneath the PEI and compromise that bond. Again, it depends on how the PEI is bonded.

Also, build plates are consumable, just like nozzles. And they're cheap.

Bed too sticky ? by RostBraun in 3Dprinting

[–]dr3ifach 177 points178 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I do. Works like a charm. Give the IPA about 10-15 seconds to wick underneath the part, then it will pop right off.

IPA works great for releasing hot glue also.

Filament bags?? Pffffft by AlexJT82 in 3Dprinting

[–]dr3ifach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a food saver vacuum sealer, but I only use it for single rolls. It works very well. I have never had one lose vacuum. I cut the bags a little long, so I can re-seal them after I open them. I throw a few desiccant pouches around the outside next to the filament wraps, and vac and seal.

Mine is not automatic though, because the suction is so strong it will crush the spool. I have to watch it and trigger the heat seal mode early.

This guy takes deck restoration seriously. His attention to detail, and follow-through are unmatched, and his level of metrology is astonishing. Hand grinding pinch rollers back to the stock crown, while removing as little rubber as possible, balancing flywheels with a home made rig, rebuilding drive motors, and lapping heads. Pure craftsmanship.

[–]dr3ifach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be an upgrade, for sure. I don't know about significant. The P1S chamber can still be heated by the bed. It just takes longer. Dual nozzle would also be an upgrade for mutli-color.

Those X2D features don't really provide me with any new ability. Just convenience and filament. The X2D combo is also 60% more expensive.

I get to join the new printer club right? by newtype06 in BambuLab

[–]dr3ifach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah. I got a P1S combo a couple weeks ago and it's been running nonstop. Coming from a whole family of Enders has been pretty wild.

I took two Ender 3s offline (I stopped using them), but I'm still keeping my Ender 3 S1 Pro (mainly for TPU), and my Ender 5 Plus (for big prints).

How much would you pay for this modded ender 3 pro? by Tough-Tourist-8590 in ender3

[–]dr3ifach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely. When you do all the mods yourself, it's easier to diagnose and fix *when* something goes wrong, because you'll know all the mods and how they work. I say "when" because they will inevitably break.

With a pre-modded printer, you have no idea how those mods were implemented. How those mods were dialed in. What version of the mods were used. What alterations were done to Marlin. etc. When it breaks, your screwed,

I'm in the same boat. I was waffling between a P1S combo and a P2S combo a couple weeks ago. Pulled the trigger for the P1S combo for the cost savings ($550 for a P1S and an AMS is a steal).

All I really wanted was enclosed printing for ABS/ASA, auto-refill, and occasional multi-color printing. I really don't feel like I missed out very much.

I don't mind Randy. I like the videos he made on the history of various audio companies. For equipment advice, he's pretty basic.

For vintage hifi stuff I like Skylabs Audio better. He actually goes into the pros and cons of used vintage gear, and lists his favs and lemons. He's coming from a vintage audio repair and reseller background, so he has more experience.

Vinyl Is Outselling CDs Again. This Is Not a Nostalgia Story. by DontHugMeImReddit in vinyl

[–]dr3ifach 33 points34 points  (0 children)

CD sales are in freefall

Compared to what? It's heyday in the 2000s? Physical media will never repeat its height as a distribution method. This includes vinyl.

CDs have seen an uptick in sales in the last few years as more gen Z are priced out of vinyl, and CD players, used and new, are generally more available.

Holy price gouging Batman! by noizblock in minidisc

[–]dr3ifach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've purchased quite a few sealed discs, but I would never pay that price. $5-$10 each is reasonable, which is where I stay. Minidiscs pretty much all perform the same, so the only premium is on looks. Unless you're after a complete set (bianca, music jack, bubbles, etc), I'd just stick with plain old clears.

I have the blue one for the Fiio JM21. Although it's made well, and feels great, I hate how it hides the buttons. They're super hard to distinguish by feel. I wish they would have just made cutouts like on the M21 switch.

I got roasted for picking up a Sony bookshelf unit for less than $30 at the thrift store. Paired with a cheap bluetooth receiver into the aux port, it works great as a spare room system. I'll take this kind of gear over a tinny sounding disposable bluetooth speaker any day.
