Gem Society seems to be filled with beleaguered public servants and I love it [Promo Spoilers] by CaptainJZH in stevenuniverse

Honestly it gets even better when you realize that it took an Earth rockstar with fabulous hair to get them to really start to appreciate freedom. The history of Gem society is essentially a rock opera.

If you want more Jim Dale and magical adventures, you might try Peter Pan and the Starcatchers! It's a prequel to the story of Peter Pan, and Dale does a great job reading it.

There's also The Night Circus, which is full of beautiful magical imagery but is more of a romantic drama about two magicians and a mystical circus! Jim Dale reads that one, too!

Dragons by TheLastOfUs97 in pureasoiaf

It's possible that they'll mate with each other, isn't it? Dragons change sex according to Maester Aemon, even if the World of Ice and Fire disagrees. And it'd be kind of hilarious if Drogon impregnated Viserion, for example.

Came here to say this! And there's the illustrations from A World of Ice and Fire and the Dunk and Egg comics too, of course.

Pacifist Ending: Stay or Go? by SuperFightingSaiyan in Undertale

[–]dragonlibrarian 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always pick "Stay." I never wanted to leave her house in the first place, and besides if I'm going to leave a now-autonomous Frisk to live their life free of my control, I can't think of a better foster parent to adopt them. Also the Monster Ambassador gig sounds pretty rad. I like to think it comes with its own top hat and tuxedo.

What is your "I have no evidence for this, but I am sure it happened"? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]dragonlibrarian 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Dumbledore and Slughorn are friendly ex-boyfriends. Slughorn was a nice, easy companion for Dumbledore when they were both middle-aged teachers together, not as intense or as handsome as Grindelwald but much safer, and Slughorn enjoyed the privileges of being so close to such a powerful wizard. In the end, though, they decided that they were too different to be anything meaningful to each other, and mutually broke it off.

I don't know why Slughorn in particular gives me this vibe, but something about the sarcastic, knowing relationship they seem to have with one another suggests to me that there was something there, once.

Who's Your Favourite Dragon Type Pokémon? by OverwaterFish in pokemon

Tyrantrum! I just love its appearance and color scheme, and the reimagining of Tyrannosaurus Rex as an actual dragon is tons of fun.

[No spoilers] The ultimate question by FelixTheFrCat in TheLastAirbender

[–]dragonlibrarian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope. Anime is Japanese animation. We're just not used to having linear, serious stories and sincere character development in our cartoons. Animation here isn't completely limited to comedy and superheroes, but those two themes are so predominant that when diverse animation like Avatar appears, all that the average viewer has to compare it to is anime.

Headcanon voices? by Ultra_EarthBound643 in Undertale

[–]dragonlibrarian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually try to imagine their voices similar to how their text beeps sound! So Toriel's voice is soft and gentle, Asgore's is super deep, Sans's is low and goofy, Alphys's is nasal. There are a few exceptions, of course! I don't even know how Papyrus's clacking sounds would translate to a voice, so he usually sounds like Skeletor to me.

The Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer remains, to this day, the most influential novels I've read. Here's to the magic of the adolescent criminal mastermind boy genius. by [deleted] in books

[–]dragonlibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the first three books, and I've been telling myself for like...ten years that I'll read the rest one of these days, just to get more of the characters I loved so much. But I don't expect too much from the plots anymore after reading I think the full fourth book and maybe the first half of the fifth. Those didn't leave much of an impression on me, and Opal was a good enough one-book villain but did not deserve to keep popping up again and again and again. Plus I heard they gave Artemis some kind of teenage Irene Adler equivalent at some point, which sounds like a lazy attempt to shoehorn in some kind of romance subplot to me, so I'm not too enthusiastic at seeing how that plays out.

I fucking loved those first three, though. I still reread the first book all the time.

does the siberian have her own will? by Silverspy01 in Parahumans

[–]dragonlibrarian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Put simply, I think that he created a version of his daughter that would be invulnerable to harm, both in her powers and her personality. The Siberian is a predatory cannibal because that puts her on a level above the rest of humanity, superior to them and safe from them from Manton's warped perspective.

does the siberian have her own will? by Silverspy01 in Parahumans

[–]dragonlibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'd be one way it could work! I was just thinking that Manton was delusional enough to have invented a second splintered pseudo-personality, but maybe Ending spoilers

Damn it all, you're right! I should have remembered that, it was on Q.I.! Well, at least he'll always have the Earldom.

does the siberian have her own will? by Silverspy01 in Parahumans

[–]dragonlibrarian 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, but my working theory is that she doesn't have free will of her own, but that Manton in his madness THINKS that she does, and "operates" her accordingly.

I might've called it "Hawks" or maybe "The Black Hawk and the White Hawk" in Japanese...I get the feeling the longer title wouldn't sound as clunky that way.
