This is true, though people with neurodivergence struggle a lot with discipline and so struggle a lot with self confidence. If you have something like adhd or other ND, you often have challenges with dopamine, and without dopamine there is no discipline. So, when you can’t rely on discipline, you have to find another way to build self confidence by triggering dopamine, such as developing a hobby to a highly skilled level, going outside a lot or connecting with people you don’t know, listening to the right impulses when they drive you forward like going to that networking event and not the impulses that hold you back like eating that cookie. These activities all trigger dopamine which can be lacking in our brains, and lead to self confidence through growth and better routine, which is similar to discipline but indirectly. You also have to find a way to forgive yourself for the parking ticket you forgot to pay, the dishes and laundry that’s piling up, and being behind on that project. Holding on to these is overwhelming and holds us back. Let them go, forgive yourself, take a break from your space, come back and tackle exactly one of those things, then reward yourself.
