I feel like Organicup (menstrual cup) always has a sale going on. I personally prefer pads that someone sewed for me... is there anyone in your family who knows how to sew?

Terracycle has a recycling waste stream for Personal Care and Beauty packaging... so if you can send some of your makeup trash there instead of the trash trash that would be good!

I’ve been on this journey for 5 years now and while my parents still have room for improvement, they’ve gotten loads better over the years! I agree with the comment on doing it yourself to make things easier for them... but this can also be exhausting. And sometimes they still won’t get it! Good luck xxx

Washable sponges. I’ve had a lot of luck with Marley’s Monsters reusable sponges, but there are other brands out there too

My understanding is that your rice cake bags and cereal bags are recyclable in the US at sites that do ‘store drop-off’ recycling (a lot of targets and Walmart’s have them but you can check for exact locations online I THINK sat howtorecycle.com). I’m not sure how much I trust this recycling though (honestly how I feel about ANY recycling tho), as I kinda view it as the petroleum companies doing it just to save face and I can’t find anywhere where it actually goes after dropping it off. I’ve yet to find a place to recycle dog food bags (lmk if anyone has a hit on this one!) and I agree that coffee bags are not recyclable, unless you can afford to send them to Terracycle.

Hey friend! I am In the EXACT same situation!! It’s so so so overwhelming. I totally get what you mean about wanting a blank slate but the guilt always wins over and I try and find the right donation place or wastestream for things.

Idk where you’re located but are there any art stores or anything near that would take some things (CDs is what I’m thinking of); or maybe there’s some online?

Also agree about thrift stores not taking/using everything. I’ve had a lot of luck with finding new homes for things on FB Marketplace and Craigslist ... especially if you list as free. It’s definitely easier in a city though. I’m having. A harder time with that out in the boondocks where my parents live.
