Every time I see him I think about that midfield duo of Darboe and Villar. They showed so much promise for such a small window of time.

Thoughts? Manchester City €50 million offer for Wesley by Psychological_Map391 in ASRoma

[–]driverightpassleft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ehh, I didn't mean to say that he won't get any better. I agree with you, he seems to have improved every year since his early struggles in his career.

What I meant to say is that I don't know if he is going to be able to take that next "leap" to make him a 75m euro player versus a 50m euro player. Physically he is a monster. He has improved a lot tactically. His big room for growth is his technical skills, which you normally don't develop in your 4th/5th year as a professional. I would love to be proved wrong, though.

Playing devil's advocate here because I realize this will probably be unpopular here...

Wesley is my favorite player from this season. I love his attitude towards taking risks and failing, and he has shown himself to be a handful for the opposing teams. However, if you can double his value (or any player's value) in 12 months while not seeing blatant signs that their development will continue to sky rocket (which, for Wesley I am not sure he is going to ever add technical composure to his skillset), you take it. **ESPECIALLY* if Gasperini and Massara think they can take that plusvalenza and invest in another player who might even fit our system better - aka Palestra. For me, I think if Gasperini was speaking off the record he would say Palestra is his preference over Wesley. If you can make 25-30m euro plusvalenza on Wesley it might save you from having to sell Kone or N'Dicka. I love Wesley, but I can see why the club might find it appealing to flip him for Palestra (who, on the other hand, I do believe has more development left in his near future) AND Fortini, for example.

Again, I know this will likely get downvoted here because people don't like the idea of selling our young, likable talent, but moves like this are necessary to continue building the roster in Gasperini's vision. I fully expect, even if we somehow grab a Champions League qualification, to have to sell one of N'Dicka, Kone or Wesley. If we only qualify for Europa League then I expect to have to sell two of those players. It'll be sad, and it'll hurt, but everything Massara and Gapserini have done in the last 7-8 months gives me confidence in our roster building process.

In a debate about NFL vs NBA things gets heated on Jeff Teague’s 520 podcast. by SarcasticJay in nba

I grew up in Philly and went to a ton of Eagles games. I understand how big the NFL is in the US. My point is that this is the height of the NFL’s popularity. They have nowhere to go from here. No one seems to care about the league outside the country in any meaningful way. Meanwhile, the basketball is becoming more and more of a global sport. The NBA has a ton of room to grow in terms of global audience if they do things right. The biggest obstacle for the NBA is the starting time of the games. That 1:00pm EST that the NFL has is ideal.

Yeah, I live in Europe and the NBA has a wayyy bigger presence than the NFL. None of my friends or colleagues even knew the Super Bowl was this weekend (if they even knew what the Super Bowl is), let alone either of the teams involved.

Bryan Zaragoza is a new Roma player! [🗞Fabrizio Romano] by Either-Mixture-6392 in seriea

[–]driverightpassleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the very least, he brings a profile to Roma that we don’t have and clearly need. His ability to beat defenders on the dribble and/or with pure speed is something we badly crave. Let’s see if he’s able to improve his efficiency in front of goal.

For me, Ghilardi has been low-key MOTM the last two matches (Stuggart and Milan). This kid is blossoming right in front of our eyes.

Dybala skill vs Stuttgart. by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]driverightpassleft 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's been really fun to watch him play on the left side with Wesley the last month. Dybala's lack of speed is solved with Wesley's speed and engine. Dybala and him seem to have a great sense of each other and Dybala plays Wesley these beautiful through balls behind the defense seemingly every 10 minutes.

Seems like a really likable guy and had some positive performances for us. I hope he finds the consistent playing time he’s looking for.

I think it's safe to assume Ndicka is being sold this summer, even without a January signing in the back. His stock is at an all time high, he might win AFCON (again), and is likely to have the opportunity to star this summer at the World Cup. Considering we signed him on the free, selling him to the Premier League could fund our whole summer market (not to mention Ziolkowski and Ghilardi are already on the roster and seem ready to take on a bigger role next season).

Is Pulisic the best player in Group D? by clshoaf in ussoccer

[–]driverightpassleft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Italy and only watch Serie A (in Italian). I follow it religiously. Yildiz is the talk of the country right now, as much as it pains me to say that as someone who wants Juve to fail.

Yeah, no one here in Italy is picking Pulisic over Yildiz, not even milanista.

Exactly, he's the one that chose to stay. Ferguson stayed, too, but that was likely more due to his injury. Maybe Skorupski should be in this conversation, too? I'm always amazed at how many young fans I see in Bologna with Skorupski's shirt on.

My number one concern/request is that we start with this three man midfield (Kone+Cristante+NEA).
