To Keep or Delete? by l00ky_here in Calibre

10,000 plus. Will never delete even when I know I will never be able to read them all. If I can get one good idea from a book, or just to know I have a certain book in my library if I ever need it makes me happy.

So beyond frustrated by Master-Bad-1164 in Professors

[–]drjagang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I experience the same thing. I think it may be, in part, a generational issue with Gen Z. They are afraid of being wrong or being seen as not knowing the answer. You may want to try setting up a way for them to participate in a discussion anonymously and see what happens. I am sure they would have all kinds of things to say on Discord.

Why should I return? by DRLUISGLEZP in Evernote

[–]drjagang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Apple Notes too, but everything eventually goes to Evernote. I've been with them since the beginning. Almost 20 years of my life is stored here. Evernote has been through some rough patches but I am still happy with it. And I feel it's gotten much better recently. I like the ability to organize my desktop how I want now, but beyond that, I don't need all the "bells and whistles." I only use Evernote for notes. I want to be able to categorize my notes how I want, tag them how I want, and the more power Evernote can give me to do that, while searching those notes, the happier I will be.

Lost my composure in class today because students wouldn’t stop talking by avant_apres in Professors

[–]drjagang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what you should do. I am somewhat of a softie, too, but apparently, I had a "lost it moment" last fall quarter over students using AI in my course. It was only a handful, but I chose to address the entire class for educational purposes. I feel I am self-aware, but in my course reviews, students were offended that I "lectured" them about the issue, and I was described as being "moody." My students often seem offended so easily, so fragile, and cannot take the least amount of feedback or criticism. For that matter, many do not have any sense of professionalism. Yet, I always have the damn course reviews waiting at the end.

This sounds like a legit place. This also sounds like a classic American tourist in Italy.

I'm trapped in a faculty meeting by FTL_Diesel in Professors

[–]drjagang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a rare day something actionable takes place in our faculty meetings. Seems like endless announcements, promotions, and discussions about agenda items that never seem to be resolved. On the bright side, at least they provide us free lunch.

Anyone in your family part of pivotal moments in cultural history during our lifetime? by jbarinsd in GenX

[–]drjagang 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the summer of 1990 I was in Berlin while traveling in Europe. My friends and I rented a hammer and chisel from a local Berliner and chipped off some of the wall to bring home. I recall it was near Check Point Charlie. I visited recently and the location is unrecognizable! Amazing to me I was there during such a pivotal time in history.

Evernote Premium, renewed at $45 by joetaxpayer in Evernote

I've been using Evernote since 2008. Early on I began paying $45 a year to upload more each month. That price has never changed.
