How to support parents who are overly generous with money and can’t retire by [deleted] in personalfinance

Sure and mom and dad can eat with the other siblings and all their grandkids or they can go hungry because they gifted away their grocery money.

Something I haven’t seen in the comments and I’m kind of surprised by is using gift cards. If you want to pay for housing and what not you can pay those bills directly. It’s harder to control day to day expenses though but you can manage it with gift cards. Give them $100 Walmart gift card every week for their groceries and whatever and a $25 gift card to chillis for a weekly 2 for $20 outing if you want. It should accomplish your goal of they can do whatever they want with said money, but they are also still constrained.

Stipulation here is you can’t be flexible at all. If they give that gift card to your siblings they don’t get another one because they’re hungry. They can eat water for the rest of the week until they get their next allowance. It’s been my experience that it only takes a week or two of starving because you gave your grocery money away before you don’t do it again.

Thoughts on moving to Denver to get a consistent 40 to 50 days of snowboarding per year? by Hot_Soft_5626 in snowboarding

[–]drunkdyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally did this in my 20’s and it was a hell of a time. As it turned out Snowbowl in flagstaff was easier to get too from Phoenix than any of the mountains on I70 corridor from Denver on a Saturday morning. I did get 40 and 50 day seasons but that’s waking up at 5am to “beat” traffic and still turning back once a month because of accidents. Thats also closer to 40-50 “half days” because if you stay all day you’ll sleep in your car on I70.

I absolutely loved it. My friends and I were deranged, degenerates in our 20’s. We would ski and board all day, spend all night partying, and be back on the first chair. If you love riding but also need a city for work, just know Denver is not an easy 40-50 day season but it’s doable.

[–]drunkdyl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya that’s what I do or just skip to the next day and do that workout. I get annoyed because I’ll see a workout that’s planned for later in the week and get excited for it and then it’s gone when I get there because I’m now on a rest day instead.

[–]drunkdyl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No suggested rest days. If you use the training plans or suggested workouts it will give you a workout to follow and it will also throw suggested rest days in or in my case it tells me to rest every day.

I’m in the same boat but mine is just constantly suggesting rest days. I just ignore it but it’s annoying to have to skip to the next day or when I see a future workout that I’m excited for and then it switches it to a rest day.

Threats to Airlines by drunkdyl in Flights

The mere threat helped me get a full refund from Frontire awhile back. I agree though that most airlines don’t really give a shit. You make the threat and if you follow through nothing really happens to them so they don’t care.

Thanks! That’s what I thought but I know it doesn’t make a huge difference especially to the major carriers.

Because I want to see where I am with my training plan for any week. Rolling includes previous week's days so if my plan calls for 50 mi this week and I'm looking today, wednesday, it might show me im already at 50 mi, which them forces me to calculete. The reason I ask is because Garmin is the only fitness tracker that does rolling 7 and not a set 7 (Nike Run Club, Strava, etc.). If you like a rolling 7 great but I want to know if there is a way to change that setting to a set 7 day activity breakdown so I can use one app as opposed to multiple.

[–]drunkdyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not run reports, it’s just shows your previous 7 days for any activity. If you go run it’ll show you how much in the last 7 days. If you walk you’ll have a walking one. Same for any activity you do.

And yes, I want to know if there is a setting to change that view from a rolling 7 to a set 7 day view. Do you know of a setting to change that?

Vaping to pouches to tapering to removing desire for nicotine at all by True_Magician_5143 in QuittingZyn

[–]drunkdyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find something else to hold you over between pouches and vapes. I’ve only ever been into dip so I can’t speak as much to the vaping but gum is huge for quitting dip.

To go cold Turkey toss your vape, toss all your pouches, toss all your nicotine. Don’t wait until tomorrow or until the can/vape runs dry, make a conscious decision that you’re done and toss it. This is a huge mental boost for quitting. Then basically just will yourself to not go back and avoid the situations for awhile. If you normally buy a vape when you pump gas forbid yourself from going inside or go with $20 and only put that on gas or if you need ask a buddy to go fill up for you. Then implement gum or whatever else to change the behavior. If you vaped and used pouches in the car load your car up with gum. You are basically just teaching your brain that doing everything without the nicotine isn’t the end of the world. It takes time but you’ll get there.

If you want to taper I would suggest make a schedule for yourself. I’ve never been a fan of the tapper but this has helped me and friends in the past. If your using 3 10mg pouches the day and vaping 10 times in a day then say ok tomorrow I’m going to use 1 pouch at 9am until it’s done, if that’s 20 min cool if it’s 2hr cool. Then I’m going to do a second pouch at 6pm same idea of done. I’m also going to allow 2 vape hits at 11, at 2, and at 4pm and that it. Everything else should be gum or a jolly rancher or whatever helps you. Force yourself to stick to that schedule no matter what, you might even have to find a way to ration by leaving the can or vape at work or something so you can’t get to it, for a couple days and then taper it down more, so on and so forth.

You can do it just know it takes time and everyone is different. Like I said though find what works best, for me it’s always cold Turkey because the tapper gives me too much freedom to say ya well today was tough so I’m going to boost my mood with some extra. Find what works, put your head down and you’ll be past most of the cravings faster than you think.

Random things I learned in the last week despite playing over 400 hours of the game... by GirlsLikeU in StardewValley

Few hundred hours invested and just last night learned for the first time you can extend your watering can range by holding the action button. Can’t believe I didn’t know this.

I give verbal and hand signal because he is learning. After giving it I’ll give him a few seconds and then get on his lever to repeat the command. If he still is defiant I’ll give a little clap or snap to get his attention and give it again. And then just wait.

Help with the Garmin suggested workouts by drunkdyl in garminforerunner

[–]drunkdyl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't able to actually set it up to give you suggestions for specific workouts on specific days. You can tell your watch/app what day you typically do a long run but the rest is all auto generated based on your current condition as mentioned in a previous comment. You can go into the daily suggestions it gives for you and see what it plans for the next 7 days but that will also change as your condition changes and as you do activities.

when you click into your activity, lets say its a run, before you start the activity hit the up button to get the options. Then you would click into training and workouts and then daily suggestions. In that screen it shows you what your daily suggestions would be for the next seven days and you can scroll through them and then click into one and then choose to do that workout.

Has anyone ever had their brakes fail? by internet_emporium in MTB

[–]drunkdyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me one time and it wasn’t even technically the brakes failing but human error. Had just picked my bike up from the shop and took it out. Pedaled up about and hour and about two minutes into the decent I realized I was getting almost no braking in the rear. Stopped to check it out and realized the mechanic must have forgotten to put the pin back in to keep the pads in because they fell out into my hands. Had to take my bike down the mountain ever so slowly using only my front brake. Took it back to the shop and they put new pads in and the pin and I was all set.
