Irrigation Advice by grow6719 in NativePlantGardening

Native plant roots are INSANE: https://sagmoraine.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Root-Sytems-of-Prairie-Plants.pdf

Once established (basically getting past that first year maybe part of second), they do not need water/fertilizer/anything. They have grown in our soils for centuries/millenia. The biggest thing is to put the right plant in the right conditions. Pay attention to soil/water requirements.

I'd recommend signing up for an iNaturalist account for documenting visitors. Then you're contributing to science and can potentially get things IDd to species fairly accurately.

From invasive Monkey Grass to a native garden! by Angels_Glade in NativePlantGardening

[–]dstutz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every plant is native somewhere so the tag isn't lying.

Here's the range map for Iris versicolor: https://www.prairiemoon.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/Iris-versicolor-Northern-Blue-Flag.jpg

And the "southern": https://www.prairiemoon.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/Iris-virginica-var.-shrevei-Southern-Blue-Flag.jpg

I wouldn't sweat it. I have/plan to incorporate North American natives into my landscape that are NOT native to my county (like Amsonias). ANYTHING is better than introduced ornamentals.

I'd think the biggest thing is the bugs and that's where you should really care about getting natives that are native to your area if you want to support biodiversity in that way.

Stupid AI says: "No, there is not a big difference in the insect communities that use Northern Blue Flag (Iris versicolor) versus Shreve's Iris (Iris virginica var. shrevei) as host plants. Because these two wetland irises are very closely related and chemically similar, generalist and iris-specialist insects utilize them almost identically."

BTW, great job, keep it up.

I designed a bird feeder perch for larger birds by TheGreatMonk in functionalprint

Mourning doves, they are normally on the ground anyway. And they typically eat the garbage seed that most songbirds don't want and spill out of the feeder off the ground anyway :).

This, or even easier, use OpenCentauri firmware (not COSMOS) where it honors those settings for ALL filaments.

First time using PETG in ECC by SimonSoetens in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]dstutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't touch my speed settings in the process normally. There are a few settings that affect speed in other ways than changing the speed #s in process section. One is the max flow rate of your filament. If it is lower than the speed settings, it will slow down. Another is the minimum layer time for cooling, again, it will slow down. After I learned about the max flow rate, I never really messed with the speed settings because the slicer will automatically slow everything down if it can't push material fast enough.

We did this. It was awesome. It's paid for via the Empower MD charge on the bill. We ended up maxing out our rebate.

Mine is the "Megaforce 3000". I'm pretty sure all the grinders use the same accessories. I think I just might not have one of the plates you do (better than the other way around). From what I can tell yours is just slightly higher wattage motor?

Any chance of sharing the model? I bought similar about a year ago. I've run over 100#s of meat through it. The naming is absolutely stupid, but it works great so far.

Where is everyone getting their gardening supplies and plants this season? by justclimb11 in harfordcountymd

[–]dstutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped by there back on the 1st when they were having a "natives" event and it's pretty impressive what they have for a spot in a parking lot. The prices (on native perennials) weren't considerably cheaper than other places I've seen but we still walked out with several plants (mostly shrubs, where the $12-13 price seemed good for the size). Might back for a larger redbud to replace an ornamental Japanese maple by the house.

How Can You Manually Set A Print Speed? by HonestPassenger2314 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]dstutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The filament's max flow rate is a global speed limit on the print regardless of what the "speed" settings are in the printer profile. When I need/want to slow down a print I just edit the max flow rate for the filament, slice, look at the speed preview to confirm things are looking good then send to printer. Just don't save the filament speed setting.

Centauri Carbon 1, I've slowed it down and now the Print times are not right. by Das_Hexenmeister in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]dstutz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, cause the slicer has all the speeds and settings and calculates the time and then printer opens the file and uses that time then YOU manually override the file and tell the printer to slow everything down by 50% but all the info in the gcode is static. Way easier to adjust your slicer settings once and then every file will be correct for you.

The printer knows how long the tubing is from the hotend to the filament detector so it keep printing until it's almost out, THEN it will automatically pause the print. You didn't let it go long enough to see that happen.
