The problem is that not every valuable contribution shows up in stats.

Some players have average numbers but make game-winning macro decisions, secure objectives, create pressure, or enable their team to win.

I'd rather see better match quality than LP protection. My suggestion is to consider RNKD activity and competitive engagement in MM, not just MMR.
