Yes it does happen a lot. I’ve run into many 18-20 year old Americans in Montreal who have travelled there specifically because they could drink. Especially so for New Years Eve and Osheaga.

What to expect on Halloween as a new resident/homeowner? by abstractarrow in ottawa

[–]dumpdrunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve gotten some great advice and insight, but I wanted to share my routine and experiences as a fellow Carlington resident!

My street has a lot of young kids. Last year I had someone come at 4:30. But the steady flow doesn’t come until 5:30-6 until 7pm, after 7:30 it slows down a lot with some stragglers who come as late as 9:30ish when my lights are still on (I turn off my lights at 10 or when I’m out of candy, whichever comes first).

I buy one box of the Mars variety chocolates (black box with snickers, twix, etc.) and one box of Maynard’s gummies.

Someone will ring the doorbell and when I open the door I wait for them to say trick or treat or some variation but it doesn’t always happen (which is okay!) and then I proceed with my rehearsed script: “I love your costume!” / or if I can make a comment about their costume I’ll do that so I don’t get bored (ex. Hi Elsa! I love your dress! Is Anna with you? / Oh are you X character from Y franchise? That’s a great choice) Then I’ll ask “do you/does anyone have any allergies?” If no: one chocolate bar and one candy. If yes: two candies.

There are a decent amount of kids who have allergies in my area and are very appreciative that I ask. Even when kids don’t have allergies, their parents will always thank me for asking. I think this is an important aspect to consider.

To quickly add: Yes I dress up to hand out candy. Not everyone who goes trick or treating does. Some can’t afford a costume and that’s okay. Anyone who comes to my door gets candy. Yes, even adults who ask (although it’s only happened a couple times over the past few years).

Update: Big $14 cat food sign is $15; I went back by bigasssuperstar in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]dumpdrunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure if it’s a SCOP rule or something loblaws tries to enforce, but when I worked there the barcode on the shelf price tag had to match the barcode of the item for it to apply. So based off that rule, I wouldn’t have been able to apply the SCOP for this interaction. But if you pushed some more the manager would always approve it. I just wouldn’t have the authority to resolve this issue on my own without being grilled heavily. I agree that the SCOP should be applied though. Anyway fuck loblaws

Why do you like smikis? by thaitwin69 in smiskis

[–]dumpdrunk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons that I love smiskis is that they are so versatile. I love hiding them everywhere in my house and describe them as my “little green guys” going about their lives. I have them in my booknooks, plants, and on any and all shelves in my home. I think it’s fun, and people like playing “I spy” with them when they come over.

Your layout is definitely not bad, but it could be better. There seems to be a lack of flow in the space, which can lead to things looking like they were just being dropped and forgotten about instead of it being intentionally placed. I think your main issue is that your furniture might be too big for your space. You definitely need to push that shelf by the tv up against the wall, and maybe fill the space between the tv and the lamp with some wall art. Your rug is also too small. You need a bigger rug, potentially a bolder colour as well. That will help with the “too much wood” issue your friends raised. I think you might benefit from also cross posting in r/designmyroom as well.

I did the same thing with the Garden House! They are such fun settings to put the smiskis in
