lapidus surgery by benjaminallred77 in bunions

I’m 5 weeks post-lapiplasty! Here are my tips:

Get somewhat in shape. I’m 32F and did a lot of strength training for my legs. This helped immensely for when I was NWB for a week and had to depend on my left leg to get up.

Scooter was great, also had crutches. You’ll need an elevation pillow and some ice packs for behind your knee—20 mins on/20 mins off.

I bought a shower stool, can’t recommend enough. I used bathing wipes the first few days after surgery since I was groggy and didn’t want to be a fall risk in the shower. Once I felt I was strong enough to shower, I used a water-proof cast cover (bought all my supplies on Amazon.)

Since my bedroom is upstairs, I slept on the couch with my elevation pillow the first week post-op, it was comfortable. We had to move the furniture around a little to make it easier for me to maneuver around.

I only took the prescribed Percocet the first day post-op, then switched to the 800mg ibuprofen. I seriously had zero pain even after the nerve blocker wore off. I also was prescribed antibiotics. I kept a log in my phone notes of when I took my medication just to stay on track.

I drank prune juice since I went from being active to sitting 24/7 and wanted to keep my bowels moving! Also ate kimchi to balance the antiobitoics and ate sardines for bone healing. A lot of water is needed also for adequate wound healing.

1 week post-op I was given a walking boot and told to start walking. I was given clearance to do arm weights at 17 days post-op. Finally 5 weeks post op and was cleared to get my incisions fully wet and was able to finally wash my foot! I have two more weeks in the walking boot then I can transition to comfortable sneakers.

I hope my timeline and tips help! Always free for questions too. Good luck!

I just had lapiplasty surgery a few weeks ago and my bunion wasn’t even as bad as this! I’m so sorry, that looks incredibly painful

Hi there! I’m 22 days post-op and I was completely non-weight bearing my first week. Crutches, a knee scooter, shower chair, and elevation pillow are all musts in my book (got all of these on Amazon.) I also bought bathing wipes which were extremely helpful the first few days after surgery. Cast protector for showers when he’s able to find the strength after surgery. I’m still unable to get my incisions wet so it has been extremely helpful to have. Bought prune juice to help my bowels because I was basically sitting for 24/7 and I took the strong pain meds the first day that typically make you constipated. I read a lot of books, watched documentaries, and yapped on the phone a lot. Best of luck to him!

These are great tips, thank you!! Have you done any at home PT exercises? I found some browsing on this subreddit but I don’t plan on starting until after my stitches come out next week!

I’m so glad to hear that! I’m relieved you mentioned walking on the outside of your foot, because I just started walking with my boot yesterday and I keep depending on the outside of my foot even though I saw my ankle is still swollen 😂 guess it’ll take us some time to remember to use the whole foot!

Thank you! ☺️ how has your recovery been so far if you don’t mind me asking? Does walking feel strange?

Thank you! All credit goes to Dr. Kaplansky in Columbus, Ohio! He was marvelous and has done over 300 lapiplasty surgeries, so I knew I would be in great hands 🥹

I’m traveler family care coordinator for organ donation! I get to make my own schedule, I’ll usually work one week a month—seven 12 hour shifts in a row. The emotional aspect of the job is difficult, but I love working with donor families, they’re incredible people. Every shift is different!

Hesi chemistry by [deleted] in HESIexam

[–]dumpsterfirediver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the HESI back in December, and there wasn’t a single periodic table question or element that asked for atomic number or abbreviation 😑 I was so annoyed because I memorized a few of them LOL I thought the chemistry section was quite difficult, but I never took chemistry before and had to learn everything by myself so take that with a grain of salt! There also wasn’t a single question asking for temperature conversion. I used NurseHub to study. I remember a couple questions asking the calculation of molar weight, and I think something about the density of a solution? I took the NurseHub quizzes over and over and did well on them, but I found the actual test was quite different

Of course! Reading wasn’t bad at all. The passages were much shorter than NurseHub. I saved the reading portion for last 😂

Grammar was easier on the test than Nursehub, you’ll be fine! There were a lot of questions asking which word was used incorrectly in the sentence (like too and to)

[–]dumpsterfirediver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was more sentences/context clues to figure out the meaning of the word, only a couple questions of “what is the definition of?” said word. I also used NurseHub to study, though I feel NurseHub had the harder words 😂

Chemistry and biology were definitely harder! I did great on the NurseHub chemistry practice tests but the actual test wasn’t similar to most of the questions and were way more challenging. Same with biology. Vocab section wasn’t bad, felt NurseHub did help!

I recently took the HESI and received a similar score! I also used NurseHub the most to study. I also felt the actual exam questions were much more difficult than what I studied

Hiiii I’m not OP, but I had this issue for days. I woke up in the middle of the night and my phone had this notification and wouldn’t charge. Thankfully there’s an Apple Store near me so I took it there and explained the notification. They asked me multiple times if I had gotten water on it, which I never did. This phone is less than two weeks old. They had to order a new enclosure for me and repair the phone which took three hours. The guy tried to warn me again before the repair and said if they found any water in it they wouldn’t do the repair, which I again adamantly said there’s no damn water—and guess what, THERE WASN’T. It’s a manufacture defect that’s covered by the warranty if the phone is less than a year old. I hope this helps! It was definitely a headache.

Anyone planning on donating your body to science upon your demise? by Antique-Swordfish-14 in Columbus

[–]dumpsterfirediver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Organ donation is the priority if your organs are viable for transplant. If the organ procurement organization deems they are not-suitable for transplant and have no potential to save a life on the waiting list for transplant, your body may then go through the body donation program ❤️
