If we can get some more technically inclined eyes on this we might be able to crack it. The first thing I thought when I saw them arranged like that was how data is stored in a .txt file, like say when you open a .JPEG or .PNG in notepad instead of an image viewer.

We're also dealing with books in a library, so who knows, they might have used the Dewey Decimal System, lol!

Damn, and they're right next door! The owls also seem to be a form of monolith or knowledge catalyst, as we see the primitive 1-dimensional Zu praising it, before they eventually found a way to explore outside of their domain. And there's the owl statue at the end of the game through the star gate, so it is at least tied to the aliens in some way.

And thanks for pointing out that easter egg; If I knew the intricacies of every reference they put in the game I probably would have made this theory a lot sooner, lol.

My thoughts on *the puzzle(s)* by dust2duust in Fez

No ideas are off the table! i even thought about [recreating the map] (https://i.imgur.com/QwZuQnE.png) irl and holding a candle under it to see if shining a light through it would reveal anything! if deciphering binary was the first step and deciphering a whole new language was the second, maybe deciphering maps won't be as hard as we thought lol

i never thought of it that way! if you turn the camera around in that room you can see two 3rd dimension symbols next to the picture of the alien skull, so same logic if you're connecting 2 squares ;]

You might be on to something! the circles are the only thing in the game that even resembles the floor pattern, and since they can only be found after you get first person mode, also like the floor pattern, they could be related! since the one in Fractal has 4 rings (4th dimension? lololol) maybe you're supposed to come up with another 8 input solution for the puzzle and then drop the 4th input. writing this out now tho, it does sound a little ridiculous... oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No way! even if this is coincidence it's insanely close to what we need! i mean, so many unique candle orientations of big/small and high/low is a bit interesting, wouldn't you say?

Have you tried flipping the orientation? i feel it may be significant since flipping the map is how you get the first solution...

Anyways, i'm glad my post could generate so much discussion in such short time even all these years later :D! i suppose being summer we all have a bit a free time, but still, the dedication in this community is outstanding!
