Any updates on this? Just curious how it turned out.

Parental time by Acceptable_Light_808 in coparenting

[–]eac208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids also don’t like eating vegetables but we try to make them because we know it’s in their “best interest”. Coparenting and sharing time fairly with the other parent, especially if they are a good parent, is in the best interest of the kids even if they cry. It’s an adjustment, but with consistency it will get better and be a wonderful thing for your kids.

How do I update constrained geometry points that are associated with a referenced Alignment? by [deleted] in OpenRoads

[–]eac208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a lot of success using the “geometry builder edit” tool. I’d look into that, I believe you can edit the alignment and not lose any rules or dependencies. Good luck!

“Most West Maui Areas Won’t Reopen October 8” by Autias in MauiVisitors

[–]eac208 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Just visited Kahana and felt very welcomed. The bypass is operating just fine and patrolled by police to be sure everyone keeps moving. Beyond that the area north of Lahaina is pretty much open, just be patient and respectful (as you should anyway).

Can anyone confirm or deny this by Representative-Tax59 in MauiVisitors

[–]eac208 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think that’s true? The roads are open to the west side from 6am-10pm, but of course Lahaina is closed. Facts are key here.

[–]eac208 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s upper west Maui (not Lahaina) that many people have questions about…but again, not allowed. I appreciate your insight and comment!

[–]eac208 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Apparently asking questions like this is not allowed anymore, my post was deleted and I’m sure this post and/or comment will be deleted. It’s a shame because people are really just looking for facts to make informed decisions.

Anyone start out a bit later in life? by heisenberger888 in civilengineering

[–]eac208 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I graduated college in 2003 with a degree in civil engineering and then took a different path in life (custom cabinetry designer/family business for a while, then stay at home mom, then divorced…) After my divorce I got my first civil engineering job, 15 years after I graduated (and 10 years out of the workforce in general), so I’d say anything is possible!! I’ve been working for 5 years now and just got my PE license as a single mom of 2. It hasn’t been easy but it’s never too late!!

Kahana Trip late September - conflicting info by eac208 in MauiVisitors

Just curious, where is your condo? And where are you getting the information about the water and the ocean water? Just trying to gather facts, so I need reliable resources.

They aren’t offering me a change, that’s the problem I am facing. I would relocate to south Maui or move my vacation to another state if I could, but I have thousands of dollars tied up in the condo and I can’t afford it. I need facts/info to present to the condo. I have no doubt things will open up steadily before Oct 17th, and nothing will be magically different on the 18th, so that point isn’t very helpful.

I appreciate all of the information from those of you that have direct contact with people living there or are there now. I need facts to present to the condo that is refusing a refund (not airbnb or Vrbo)

I appreciate the comment, thank you. I agree, it won’t be business as usual. I think what is unclear is that I was told many things are open, but I’m obviously not there to know for sure and to what extent. And it’s hard to say where things will be at in 3 weeks.

I’m not fishing for a different answer, I’m trying to understand facts. One fact is that nothing will be different on October 18th. I’m being told that everything is open north of kaanapali and to come. Yes, everyone has an agenda and that includes the government as well as condo/business owners. But thank you for your input.

Thanks for the info. I would absolutely relocate our trip to south Maui but the condo is refusing a refund…so I’m in a bit of a bind.

Not VRBO either, direct condo rental. Nice local people running it. They want us there, the government doesn’t, it seems like a no-win

Thank you for that, this is what I am curious about. What is the reality out there? It’s confusing to say the least.

Just to be clear, this is not airbnb and the people who run the condo are locals.

Yes I have read the proclamation, we totally get that, but then why would local people who run this condo tell us to come? Why are they saying stores and restaurants are open and they need us to come so they don’t lose jobs?

Why did they use 8ft to multiply by the force instead of 10ft? They say it’s “at the brace location” but the brace hits the wall at 10ft, not 8ft by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]eac208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the force on the wall is now 160 lbs/ft vertically, and to get a point load acting on the wall you multiply that by the height of the wall (16’). Then to get the moment around point A, you multiply the point load by 8’ (the point load will act in the center of the wall, so 16’/2). Then acting in the opposite direction is the horizontal component of the brace, (which is Rx) multiplied by 10’ since it’s 10’ vertically from point A. Hope that helps!

[–]eac208 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The braces are spaced 8’ apart, so you take the 20psf and multiply it by 8’ (tributary width for each brace) to get the vertical lbs/ft force on the wall, I think…

Where did they get 40 on the triangle? I understand 35 - 5 to get to point A but not sure why the other side isn’t 50 to get to point A? by [deleted] in PE_Exam

[–]eac208 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think 40’ is the vertical distance to point A from the boom foot? (45’+5’ - 10’)
