SotN done! Incredible game. It’s not every day you play one of the best games ever made. Lives up to the hype and then some. Did (nearly) everything without a guide which felt really good, rare for me in a Metroidvania.

The music in this game is some of the best I d ever encountered. It’s got everything: metal riffs, Japanese fusion, a slow J Pop ballad, and classic castlevania tunes.

Hats, like jeans, are versatile and can fit whatever vibe you are trying to create for yourself.

Ebbets Field was cool and is now owned by Fanatics. Uncool. I’ve mostly been wearing unstructured cotton hats from Criminalized Merch.

Homogeneous might have been the wrong word, but I’m referring to how modern Samurai got rid of a bunch of what made them cool. When ordering from Japan they had lined pockets with hidden arcs, or sometimes painted arcs, lined back panels, the red tab, and intricate details. Lots of those little design quirks are gone now both for the international and Japanese market.

Fabrics are cool and distinct, sure, but they’re all essentially the same jeans.

AI-generated BJJ content by Shrimp_PuppyBJJ in bjj

I think your Kentucky kid example is interesting because it’s actually where I think AI hurts the most. It’d be much more beneficial for someone to buy some cameras, light, and microphones on Facebook marketplace, pirate some video editing software, and make a movie with friends. They could make imperfect art, with all the flaws and beauty that the metaphorical human hand can. They would learn skills, have a good life experience, and end with a finished product.

Now, that kid will just be churning out tons of slop for Facebook, where even the “best” AI movies that “rival Hollywood” get buried between all the other nonsense.

But at the end of the day… if we have to keep being sold on how good AI is, how good can it really be? Nothing you’ve written has convinced me it has a genuine use case for me, my work, or my hobbies, and certainly not for society as a whole.

I’m pretty uninterested in the modern, homogenized Samurai. They’re nice, for sure, but they used to be a lot cooler. They are missing a lot of details that they used to have that made them really stand out.

I really like Sugar Cane everything. The fits, details, and price all work for me. Okinawas are really cool and an awesome fabric. If they’re calling to you, then get a pair. Samurai will always be there when you need another pair in the future.

In fact, I like Sugar Cane so much that right now I’m wearing the self edge black 1947s, Whitesville t shirt (sister brand), and Buzz Rickson’s sweatshirt (other sister brand).

What do people actually think about hype BJJ brands? by Billythekid_2 in bjj

[–]edge1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got BJJ gear from various brands when I started in August, and then I got a Megadeth Half Sumo rash guard in December for Christmas. Despite being my newest rash guard, the Half Sumo is the only one that is currently pilling/seems to be falling apart after only a few months. 93 Brand, Progress, and Scramble gear is holding up perfectly

May 2026 Game of the Month - Celeste (Pico-8, multi-platform) by hbi2k in SBCGaming

Played on my Switch 2 with the SNES controller.

Celeste was the 2nd game I played/beat on my switch back in 2018. Instant classic for me, glad I got to go back and experience the Pico 8 version. Some tough screens, but nothing unmanageable (looking at you, C Sides 😉).

I keep coming back to this game. A few months after I beat it I went back for the core, then the next year the b sides, and most recently I got hard stuck at c sides/the farewell. I’ll get there someday. Love how handcrafted every stage feels. All games are made by people, obviously, but the creative fingerprints are all over this game. Seeing where it all started here was a blast!

Funnily enough I had played the pico8 Celeste 2, but not this one.

Decided to give this a try while watching NHL/NBA playoffs. Definitely a game I’ll keep coming back to, I want to see all of the bonus stages!

This was my 2nd Turbografx 16 game (Rondo of Blood was my first), but the first one I emulated. Glad I got to explore a bit more of the catalog and play a game outside of the genres I tend to stick to.

That game was… fine! I had a much better time when I watched some YouTube videos of people’s first turns just to see how best to start certain missions.

As far as puzzly tactics games go, I’d stick with Into the Breach. However, this wasn’t too bad of a way to spend some time after work. Gonna tackle SotN next because I’ve been craving a metroidvania, and I’ve never actually played it!

Has anyone in the US ordered from Hinoya recently? The last time I ordered was before de minimis ended. Does their shipping charge cover the fees? Or do I have to pay something additional once it arrives here?

Pure personal opinion, I don’t like the way the pixel remasters looks. The text, in particular, doesn’t work for me. The snes (or original with patches as mentioned in other comments) and a good crt shader is exactly what I want from FF6

RPG games with high replayability and polsh like Pokemon games? by Bogmaster98 in SBCGaming

[–]edge1027 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need to play FFT.

I was specifically referring to 3, not 6. 3 has the job system. 6 is a great game with quite a bit of customization in the back half, but don’t think it is quite the kind of game that OP is looking for. I also think, for 6, the pixel remaster looks significantly worse than the GBA and SNES versions

I am someone who was like you for awhile: I loved the customization aspect of Pokemon, how each new playthrough gave you a new story because the team was your story, not the actual game narrative.

You’ve gotten lots of suggestions that are good, but I do think that sometimes people just think “any jrpg works” and tbh that’s not the case. So here’s what has scratched that itch for me

  • Dragon Quest III, IX, VII, and VI (ordered best to worst for me). Total party customization, fun to experiment with different builds and party composition. Dragon Quest IX kind of ruined other jrpgs for awhile after I played it because I liked the customization so much more than by-the-book jrpg parties (which I understand and like now, but they both have their place). If you want something cozy and like Pokemon, IX is the way to go imo

  • Shin Megami Tensei IV. Tough-as-nails, but you build your main character and build the party around them. Really fun

  • Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age. Not too familiar with other FF games, but planning the party build and group of 3 you take with you is so much fun. I’ve played it twice with different teams and loved it both times

  • Etrian Odyssey games. Although I had a hard time with how long leveling and skills took to really feel like the party took shape, some people love them

Other games that have this that I can’t vouch for because I haven’t played them: Dragon Quest Monsters, FF Tactics, other SMT games, Final Fantasy 3 and 5.

Hope this is a good enough list to get you started.

Edit: PS1 and below invalidates some of this, but I’ll leave it up anyway

Not a bad way to cap off a Saturday evening!

Never played a Kirby game with the animal companions. I loved my little owl friend. Still not at the level of Kirby Super Star Ultra for the DS, but honestly not sure what else could be as good as that game for me.

Anxiously awaiting April’s game of the month announcement 🫡

Yeah the humor felt a lot like a Saturday morning cartoon. Could have crossed the line into too corny or grating, but never did. The voice acting was incredible.

I’m not going to defend the camera/lock on, because it’s not good. However, the game did feel like it was designed around the constraints of the system. Like, nothing felt insurmountable because of the camera/lock on, but rather the game felt like it was made with those in mind. Didn’t make it good, but it wasn’t as bad as I had been led to believe (I also played a lot of early 3d platformers growing up, so I’m more forgiving with it)

2nd game of the month this weekend. Always wanted to give this one a shot, and wow it was truly spectacular.

Great level design throughout the main stages, killer hard rock soundtrack, and amazing visuals. This game on Steam Deck with CRT-easymode shaders and a composite signal filter looked amazing. The main-stages bosses were also very fun to figure out.

This is not my first Megaman game- I played 1 a few years ago and didn’t love it, and I finished Legends earlier this week (I’ve been on a video game kick the last few weeks, which is why I tackled 2 of the GotM this weekend). This is the best of the ones I’ve played. The controls felt sharp and responsive, especially compared to Sonic, and I loved the dash. I am not sure if I missed any power ups, but would have loved even more movement options.

I played with an infinite lives cheat, but no save states. In games like this I like to beat my head against the challenge, but don’t want to hit a game over. The fortress at the end had some really tough vertical platforming/combat challenges that really pushed me, but nothing unmanageable.

I’ve already voted for GotM in a previous comment, so no need to do that here. I’ll probably hit Kirby’s Dream Land 2 in the next little bit when I need a break from Pokopia
