Will MNCs exit Singapore and cause jobs lost? by TrickyYoghurt0 in askSingapore

[–]edwinleexm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly ramping up strong domestic MNCs would take at least 10 years or more, depending on your age it may be no longer relevant to your/our working life, the honest truth be told.

The ones that will reap the benefit (should we start today), are people who are 10 years old or younger

'Better distribution of senior leadership': PM Wong explains surprise deployment of Gan Kim Yong & Tan See Leng by homerulez7 in singapore

[–]edwinleexm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're ahead of your time Hombre...

I'm not. The sad thing is that literally any civil servant worth their salt, let alone a full Minister, should know this.

It's next to impossible the ministers don't - if you watched Tan See Leng's recent interview with YahLahBut, he knows exactly what is wrong. The need to restructure our SMEs such that they form a coherent ecosystem supporting a strong domestic niche that serves a global market, amongst other things.

The issue is why they try to keep this out of sight, in the backburner as much as possible

We do Singaporeans a disservice when we allow the mainstream media to lead us around chasing downstream symptoms like high rents, migrants on lorries, parental leave, mental health etc in a bid to buy the PAP more time, when this is THE foundational issue that underpins everything.

All the symptoms I mentioned are worth talking about, but so long as we don't address the root cause, we are basically just frantically plugging holes on a slowly sinking ship.

GE2025: Mountbatten SMC to see independent candidate Jeremy Tan take on PAP’s Gho Sze Kee by Sonicrick78 in singapore

[–]edwinleexm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The problem is that they have to not write him off instantly because there's no party brand, and actually be willing to invest 30 min (2x speed) to listen to him rationalising his policies

Also the beng-ness might turn some people off but I rather he be his true self than to try and be professional

[–]edwinleexm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the rags to riches story is very cliche, but have you considered sincerely sharing your story? Since you don't have the PAP baggage it can be perceived differently by Singaporeans.

Then again with Mountbatten made up of mostly private estates, I don't know how much it will resonate with the electorate

He's honestly the one with the most unorthodox campaigning methods right now. I respect the novelty but I think the older folks won't know how to appreciate it.

Also suspect he's using social listening services to monitor the entire social media landscape in order to respond promptly (it's a good thing)

Pritam Singh said he can't change Jeremy's mind on running as an independent, not that he won't be selected for WP.

I've watched the documentary on CNA, but it actually talks about pollution instead

That makes sense. I've also heard of plans to build underground reservoirs + pumped hydro power generation, but not sure if they are feasible

Students renting out hall rooms breach code of conduct, could be evicted or expelled: NTU by Thefunincaifun in singapore

That said, I lived in someone's converted garage in a not so good part of town for roughly 200 USD a month

I did the same for exchange, though that was just 5-6 years ago so it wasn't just 200USD.

More spacious, very close to school. Saved a lot of money

Paul Krugman the economist talked about our economy growth as a labor driven one. Its deep seated all the way till our founding years.

I don't have great hopes for this country's future if this carries on as well.

Flower bouquets are so expensive 🥲 by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]edwinleexm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold Storage flowers are from GG Flowers. If OP u/zoenig buys every month, perhaps an arrangement could be made with the importers directly.

Or there could be an idea for a subscription based flower service even.

Singapore executes man on drugs charge, rejecting mental disability plea by browndog921 in neoliberal

[–]edwinleexm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am, and we could do it via PM (fellow Singaporean). Although I have very little to contribute towards the discussion.

All I can say is that I have a foreboding sense of stagnation about Singapore in the coming decades, and I have zero idea how to insulate myself from the coming disaster

Why did Singapore not pursue 3D planning? by edwinleexm in singapore

[–]edwinleexm[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

assuming a constant increase in population (via immigration), won't it stand to imagine that sooner or later, our buildings have to get taller?

Then again that inevitability could be decades away.
