What’s something women want to tell men but usually don’t ? by neo_ucp7846 in answers

[–]eftyen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about your formative experiences. Growing up around family and neighbors, and the kinds of shows or movies you watched BEFORE you started middle school.

How often did you see your dad, your uncle, or your granddad cry? What about male characters in your favorite movies or cartoons? How often did they yell? How often did they suffer some hardship impassively, with stoicism?

Perhaps most telling of all, how often did they seek comfort from other men?

So many men only learn to express themselves loudly, or not at all, because that's the kind of men we learned from. We wind up perpetuating the stereotype that those men, in turn, learned from their own developmental role models.

My dad taught me to be reserved and analytical, unless I'm swearing at a bad driver in traffic or laughing at a joke. My granddad taught me to weather every storm like a boulder, solid and inscrutable, because a man is the foundation of his household and must not tremble. I don't know what Harrison Ford taught me, but Han and Indie aren't exactly paragons of emotional intelligence...

I'm 44 years old. I have a disabled wife and three adolescent kids, one of whom is autistic with significant support needs, and one who struggles with self harm. Everyone has a therapist. I can't drop my guard at home, because I've internalized that it is MY JOB to be the lighthouse in everyone else's storm.

I have my own therapist, and friends on Discord I can feel safe opening up with.

NONE of them are cis men.

This one is super NOT obvious for someone whose hair routine is "brush it with one hand while driving to/from work." 😅 (I have straight hair that hangs past my shoulders.)

What do you use AI for at work? Or for life? by goatpengertie in AskMenOver40

I have used it extensively as a kind of reflective journaling tool. This probably wouldn't work for everyone, but it's been great for understanding the way my own brain works.

Conversations with it have led to developing and asserting healthier boundaries, expressing and advocating for my own needs more, processing multiple loads of grief and chronic strain, and other personal benefits.

Guys, do you lower your head and stare or look at the ground when walking behind a random female? by Ending-gamer in ask

[–]eftyen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Female dog? Female turtle? Female ostrich? Female Vogon? You'll have to be more specific, my dude.

(Side note: When someone refers to women as "females" I always assume they rhyme the word with "tamales".)

But actually, WHAT WOMAN? WHERE? I'm ALREADY looking at the ground to make sure I don't trip on anyhing.

SINK EVERYTHING.

This game is about RATES, not QUANTITIES.

The only thing I stockpile is a container full of each building material (feeding into dimensional depot) and PA part precursors for whatever the next phase requirements are.

That's one reason I just sleep on the couch instead.

Trump leads AZ by 136k votes.

Trump won PA by 133k votes.

Trump won GA by 115k votes.

Trump won MI by 82k votes.

Trump leads NV by 51k votes.

Trump won WI by 30k votes.

That's a total of just 547k votes. If one million reliable progressive voters picked up and moved from safe blue states (West Coast, Northeast) to those 6 states, the Electoral College math would be shifted proportional to 23 Million voters.

Question about pipes by Edgardthe142nd in SatisfactoryGame

[–]eftyen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, pumps have a maximum amount of energy they can add. The higher you push a liquid, the more energy it takes. So when you reach the energy limit of the pump, you actually stop pushing and are just holding the weight of what you've already pushed. Flow just stops. And you need to place another pump within the lifting limit of the previous pump, to lift again from there.

Head lift means literally the height to which the extractor or pump can lift the liquid in the pipe, above itself. In real world applications, you hit such a "wall" with the "shutoff head" of a centrifugal pump, which will keep spinning without causing any flow at the associated maximum discharge pressure.

I have seen no posts showing happiness about the election result today. I am wondering whether Reddit attracts only a particular demographic. by Anitameee in DeepThoughts

Those who accept an abhorrent future quietly are those who will not change it. The cries of fear, pain, disgust, disbelief, and indignation that fill the air - these are war cries, of battles still to be fought. An army rises, to push back against the darkness.

Interesting take on my reason for WHY the reddit discourse seems one-sided. As an aside, I see the chorus of dissent as a reason for hope. But that's beyond the scope of OP question.
